I believe Elliot, a JC fan, has asked twice what week is open.

If wearing neon socks helps win 22 state titles, puts you in contention year after year for another and the program remains in the Top 10 in the nation in number of wins, I'm all for it. I wish some of that tradition would rub off on us as would almost every other program in the country.

With the game in hand, why not work on an aspect that could be beneficial to them later on? Some people love to nit pick little things, making something out to be much more than what is was after they openly admit that they didn't know the exact situation when it was done. Two knees after the freshmen O took them the length of the field. Line the kicker up on the next play and boot the FG. I guess it wouldn't have been as big of a deal had they decided to leave the starters in the whole game and make the final 50 or 60-0.

The score was 39-7 with about 4 minutes left in the game on a running clock with the freshmen O in. Tyrese Allen had two rushes for about 70 yards on the previous two plays and they were trying to burn time instead of tacking on another TD. They were in regular formation.

Kudos to those two programs for stepping up so quickly to help out. As has been said, thankfully no one was injured in the accident. Absolutely terrible for all those in the SK program.

College and high school is apples and oranges. As far as donations are concerned, you think individuals that refuse to pay an extra $0.17 per $1,000 of property value would be willing to open the check book to donate an amount much greater than what they would spend agreeing to that tax? This past winter myself and a high school weight coach sent out a pledge drive to raise money to purchase new weight room equipment. We sent out over $400 in mailings and got back enough to purchase one GHR. We actually lost money trying to raise money and about every business within a 60 mile radius was sent some type pledge packet.

That was asked in #67 and answered in #71. Teams fill out their schedules much earlier than what I ever anticipated. We've been searching for weeks 2 and 3, for a home and home since September. Also, a lot of the better teams have other solid teams more centralized to their school. The two aforementioned sentences nails it I think, 2 year deals and location. In the past we have played in Bowl Games but many of those bowls had a round robin format where each team was guaranteed 3-4 games. I've filled one member in, who I'll keep anonymous, about our current scheduling attempts, schools that have been contacted and their correspondences when something was sent back.

A lot of what you said is based off of geographic and economic issues. JC's football budget is not what one would expect a team that desires to advance the status of their program. In most schools, the increasing amount of non revenue sports programs depend on the state of one or two revenue teams to help them offset their bills. Since football is by far the largest revenue sport at JC it is about plucked dry to pay for other sports instead of going back into the program. This year the school system lost about a quarter of a million dollars in state funding to coincide with the mandatory increase in teacher salaries. That makes an already tight budget even tighter. A couple of weeks ago the county school system proposed an increase in the school tax from $0.37 per $1,000 of property value to $0.54 per $1,000 of property value to help offset those losses. This was quickly shot down by the community and the county school tax rate, already probably the lowest in the state, remains unchanged. A year or two ago an article was published about how the Highlands Booster program raised over $200,000 in one year. Businesses and individuals in the community have money to give for these wonderful causes which fails in comparison in trying to pull in additive revenue from one of the most impoverished economic areas in the state. Our budget must pay for every item, regardless of how minute it may be, including transportation, equipment, attire, etc. The amount that Highlands was able to raise in one year equals the JC budget for at least 10 years. Highlands also has "swagger" that probably no other team in the state can compare to. Teams from across the Southeast US know who they are and are willing to ante up any amount to come to play them. The two year contracts that we desire are used to help offset any budget constraints and prevent constantly traveling year in and year out. Our kids and community deserve home games just as much as anyone else instead of keeping the Mountain Parkway warm. Teams come to us for "X" amount and we go to them for "X" amount, basically offsetting the costs for the series. If any other minor costs come up that exceeds the initial anticipations associated for the trip, it is much easier to handle than starting at a baseline of $0.

Yes to Fairland. On teams that do not agree to a 2 year deal, we offer an amount for strictly a one year deal to come to us and play. If they accept then we play, if not we move on. Mastery come to JC this year to earn money to help offset the deficits left after the Philadelphia Public School system pulled all funding for extra curricular activities this season. This is the primary reason Imhotep played Trinity. After hearing about Imhotep's game, a team in their same city conference, in KY, Mastery reached out to us regarding an open date that we had listed on the OHSAA website. They were paid, fed by the local churches and lodging donated. Lutheran East was paid to come play JC by the team that originally agreed to come down instead of paying the buyout clause of their contract.

It isn't like we aren't trying to beef up the schedule next season or have in the past. I know of an individual that has reached out to around 20-25 ADs asking for their varsity's open dates for next season but he has yet to get a response. The schools that have been contacted regarding their listed open dates on other states sites or through ListServ seem to have filled them rather quickly, didn't respond or have said they weren't interested. I had no idea teams fill schedules this early in advance. Maybe that is their problem, that they wait too long to finalize a schedule thus leading in their current situation.

Hopefully we are able to oblige you with that opportunity. Despite being unable to protect our own turf, we absolutely love having Highlands come down to play. Some of the finest people we've ever hosted, Boyle would be a close second.

I believe it is the even district's turn to host the regional finals should they advance to that point and the even regions turn to host the semi's.

It is hard for teams to offer scholarships to specialists in my opinion. One must be a ringer to get one extended to them early on. The majority of the time teams will extend preferred status to those players and dig in for academic money to lure them on campus. If a team has an extra scholarship on hand and are in dire need of a specialist after they loaded up on position players, then they will probably throw it on the table. The best I've personally witnessed from Tyler was a 65 yarder off of a tripod stand. Totally different than an actual in game attempt but still quite a feat. In all honesty, I would love to see a kicking battle between these two kickers this season. It will mean that we were able to get over CCH hump we are enduring and the game with Highlands is close. We're fortunate with our current district alignment that we've had comfortable margins to work on this aspect of the game that many never really get the chance to do.

Highlands has always and will always be known for two things: dominant football and classy folks. Each time we have played them, regardless of how close the game has been, they were very respectful to the JC faithful. Best of luck the rest of the way.

No, actually you are wrong. They sent a scout out to Johnson Central this past February to film and record his kicking times. He has never attended a Ray Guy camp. They heard about him after he hit the 58 yard kick and requested info. Tyler was 5-6 last year from 50+ yards. Currently he is receiving interest from about 12-15 D1 schools. Stanford, Louisville and Mizzou to just name a few. He has all of this season and next season to improve his game before college. Last year was his first year ever kicking a football, pretty good start and hopefully it can take him places he never once dreamed of before. Yeah, I know what you mean. We have done it three times before and hopefully if we get to that point in the season to play them again, our record all-time will move back above .500. I'm sure CCH fans were saying the same after we took a 3-1 lead in the series against them until they beat us these past two seasons. Teams go through ups and downs as far as talent is concerned. High school kids are natorious for that.

With the new alignment starting next year and existing contracts expiring, what open dates does your school's team need filled beginning in 2015?

2002 in Bill Tom Ross's first year as HC the team traveled to Florida during Fall Break. In Coach Musick's final year the team went 11-1.

It will be hard for us to beat CCH or Highlands regardless of the Belfry game. Both of those teams are dang good despite the outcome of the game played last week.

I'll take a stab at the question. Does JC have a mental block against both Highlands and CCH? No. They have a .500 record against CCH, even though the past two years have been drubbings. Highlands has been the better team each time they have played, the same is applicable to every other team minus last season's historic upset. Until Coach Matney arrived at JC we were a doormat program that played just to get to baseball season. We are gaining in areas that we need to, to improve the overall standing of our program. From support to facilities, our program is leaps and bounds better than where we started from in 2004 after he took the job but there is a lot more that needs to be done. As your avatar shows, Highlands has had 100 years of success and have been able to build on it year after year. 11 years into building a program with the fundamental necessities fails in comparison to what you all have been able to establish and have a historical record that every kid would want to be a part of. Not trying to kiss rear, but the facts are facts. We may never be able to beat Highlands but we will always put our best foot forward. We respect the hell out of both CCH and Highlands and know that each time we play it has to be a near perfect game with a few lucky bounces our way. JC never puts a whole lot of stock into the outcome of this game because we know that when we play either team it will be a dog fight on our end. Safe to say that we will never have the numbers or the athletes both these teams are blessed with year in and year out. We are primarily focused on the district because that determines whether or not we are at home for the first crack at either one of these two teams. The score does raise some eyebrows but really how much stock can you take from a game where both teams despise one another. We are a very young team this year that starts probably 11 guys that have never played a down in a playoff game. Our hope is to get better each week, have the younger guys continue to grasp a better understanding of the system and when the time comes to play each Friday they are mentally prepared. The mountain men, well at least the ones that are directly involved with the team, will always shake their hands and wish both teams well win, lose or draw. That has really been the case for the past several years minus the Collins game last season. There have been some solid teams in 4A over that time but have just run into a program that is on another level. Congratulations to Highlands on the big win.

It is a fairly long paragraph and I added no structure to it. If that is the longest paragraph that you have read then you must not have read Dante's "The Devine Comedy." I had to read that for a college class back in the day and it really helped me appreciate Greek Mythology. Really good story, makes you think a lot to seek a higher meaning than just the text itself. But for my long post, yeah, I could have wrote the previous in a 1-3-1 format(Introduction-3 body paragraphs-Conclusion) but for the sake of saving a few minutes I chose not to. I think I gave several valid reasons why, the stickler I believe is the 2 year agreement with most teams. Other than those, the rarity of the offensive scheme we run are about all that I can come up with. Why would some teams choose to play a JC style team when that would be the only time that season they would face it?

You can call it whatever you want to call it. Johnson Central could play Simon Kenton if they would agree to a 2 year deal and our current open dates match.
