  1. Should be an outstanding game. The winner of this will be the favorite to make it to Bowling Green from the Eastern side. Best of luck to both teams on a well played and injury free game.
  2. It is a fairly long paragraph and I added no structure to it. If that is the longest paragraph that you have read then you must not have read Dante's "The Devine Comedy." I had to read that for a college class back in the day and it really helped me appreciate Greek Mythology. Really good story, makes you think a lot to seek a higher meaning than just the text itself. But for my long post, yeah, I could have wrote the previous in a 1-3-1 format(Introduction-3 body paragraphs-Conclusion) but for the sake of saving a few minutes I chose not to. I think I gave several valid reasons why, the stickler I believe is the 2 year agreement with most teams. Other than those, the rarity of the offensive scheme we run are about all that I can come up with. Why would some teams choose to play a JC style team when that would be the only time that season they would face it?
  3. You can call it whatever you want to call it. Johnson Central could play Simon Kenton if they would agree to a 2 year deal and our current open dates match.
  4. If more teams were receptive to scheduling 2 year deals I'm sure it would be upgraded. They were supposed to play a JV game with Lexington Catholic Monday but they called and said they couldn't come. It was many individuals hope that this may lead to a future varsity meeting between the two. Now who knows where that one will be. Pulaski Co. wanted to play a one year deal only at their place and that goes against what we have tried to do. No sense of always having to be road warriors, takes a lot of money to send 3 yellow limos all over the state to play a game every year plus it makes it harder on the next years scheduling with many other teams going after long year agreements. The kids have a right to have a return game at their place. Ironton did not want to renew their contract after last seasons game. Bourbon said no. Fairland was the OVC champions last season in Ohio with everyone coming back, sans their Head Coach. Mastery was 10-2 last season in the same conference as Imhotep. Honestly it is hard to get a lot of teams to come down this way and play. With the lack of access to a major highway and a minimum of a 2.5 hour bus ride, people would rather play teams closer to them. Most teams their size play in the Lex Metro or NKY area where there are an abundance of teams similar in stature, enrollment wise. For the teams close by and willing to schedule a return game they play Belfry and Harlan Co. They have reached out to Prestonsburg and some of the stronger teams in lower classes to no avail. The PCC games were made when Coach Haddix was there. With him at Corbin they may be able to work something out. The Harlan Co. game was made after a state-semi showing, no one knew how they would turn out. I cannot emphasize the fact that being a large school in a small pond is difficult. I can also understand teams not wanting to schedule teams within their Region. Not like it has mattered in the past with Highlands and CCH but it is always tougher to defeat a team twice. Highlands is moving up as well as CCH while LexCath and Boyle are moving down. Boyle was an excellent game for them back in 09 and 10. We were on the losing side of both, one in a land slide and the other was a highly competitive game, but it really helped us out along the way. Boyle and LexCath will now be in the same class as Belfry so it may be wise for them to reach out to get their kids a preview of what they could face. Many WV and OH teams do not want to play due to how their playoff systems are organized and a loss could hurt their chances at a higher seed. This is difficult process. As someone that has tried to help find those teams through ListServ, many responses have been sent and inquiries have been posted. I know of one that was sent out last week seeking interest in Weeks 2 and 3 of next year but we have yet to get a response. Next season we pick up an extra district foe and that drops a potential open date, confining the already tight schedule at the end of the year with district play. By no means am I saying we are world beaters. I stated earlier this year that with the youth of this football team they would be one year away from being really solid. The younger guys have picked up the slack from the departed and have exceeded expectations, regardless of their schedule. This years D starts 1 freshman, 6 sophs, 3 juniors and 1 senior. The offense starts 4 seniors, 5 juniors and 2 sophomores, with 2 sophs getting alternating reps with 2 seniors. I'm stand firm on my assertion that this team is still one year away from being special, independent of the class reorganization. By special, do I mean take CCH or Highlands to the woodshed? No, just meaning they will be able to compete for a full 48 minutes against those types of foes. I know it is a round about way of the point I was trying to make about the schedule, but if other teams are able to schedule how they seem fit, why always slam JC for standing firm on their principles of a 2 year contract. They play those that agree to play them and that is what it is.
  5. Hate to see any player suffer this type of injury. Prayers from Johnson Central.
  6. WV's football season started Friday. GW was drum rolled by South Charleston, that has a record of 18-13 over the past three seasons, 56-14. Ashland BIG.
  7. Yes, 10 game schedule. They are still playing the team out of Cleveland, OHSAA had it incorrectly listed.
  8. I love UK's idea as well. The kids put the time in all year long and when it is game day they should be able to play what they like as long as it isn't too profane or offensive. The redneck AC/DC song is amusing. I would assume that I will hear it somewhere this year, just hope it isn't at our place. Some of the items that add to the stereotype of an unintellectual buffoon that is played, I really hope it finds its way to File 13. It is great to celebrate our heritage and all, but to constantly slap our own selves in the face and keep the opposing fans walking around with their hands in their back pockets needs to be avoided.
  9. Coach Wirth has done a fine job at CCHS. Nothing but respect to him and their program from all of us at JC. Wishing you all continued success and hopefully an injury free season.
  10. Thought this would get those goose bumps going now that we are a couple of weeks out. Last season Johnson Central started playing Metallica "Wherever I May Roam" prior to the opening kickoff. Kudos to the PA individual for bringing this one out from memory lane. Myself, I am a huge fan of Metallica so to hear anything from them always keeps the blood pressure up and me on the edge of my seat. The song hits the waves, team takes the field and when timed right, at the 48 second mark the ball is booted in the air and the game gets underway. What song does your team run out to or take the field to? Any particular sound bites played during the contest that you also like hearing? :ylsuper:
  11. Blue, My replies to your comment. 1) CCH is on a different level than JC at the current moment. Last year's game had an odd feeling to it to say the least. With the rain putting a drag on the atmosphere I didn't know if I was at a funeral or stuck at a red light because it sure wasn't a football game. The score was 21-14 at the half. Two busted plays by the JC D gave up 14 easy ones during the 1st half. Personally, it seemed like the team went in the locker room and never come out. They will miss the tough nosed Jordan Ray Young more than anyone. Some of those guys had never been hit like CCH did to them last year and bent over and took it. A lot of those guys that played in the game last year will be back and the replacements for those lost got a decent amount of reps in. It will just take time to get them up to snuff on the playbooks and assignments. The backfield will not have the size as in years past but they will definitely be much quicker. 2) I totally agree. Many middle schools do not consolidate until high school so it doesn't give an accurate representation of the future in my opinion. Just a money hunt for the FBU.
  12. Plantman, JC and CCHS are split at 3-3. Yes they have been drug around the past two times they have played and could possibly be this year as well. I think JC is one year away from being able to contend. A lot of it is centered around Highlands and CCHS leaving but if they were still there I think they would be able to hold their own. A lot of younger guys will be seeing time this season, primarily on offense. They return 5 guys on O and 8 on D. Most of those returning on D started last year as Freshmen. Probably will start another duo of Sophs at backer and maybe a freshman or junior to complete the secondary. JC is still probably the best team in the district and will better than some anticipated by the time the season rolls around into week 3 or 4 when district play begins. The loss of Belcher was not as big as most think, I actually think they will be much quicker in that aspect as in years past. They could very easily lose a game or two, just depends on how quick they all buy in, adapt and learn the system.
  13. A 1991 KHSAA Hall of Fame Inductee, Walter Brugh, head football coach at Paintsville from 1956 through 1994, retired after having compiled a record of more wins than any other high school coach in the state. Sad day in Paintsville.
  14. Play everything that you like and live life with no regret. You are only young once so don't look back on these days and say "What if?"
  15. If those teams stay, maybe JC will stay down and keep their current district. We all are just throwing out hypotheticals here anyways. What has always been a head scratcher since the last alignment was why Highlands, CCHS and JC all put into R4? It forced each of those schools to drive through the heart of R3 to meet each other, adding at least an extra 3-4 hours onto their total drive time to and from the game. Some say it was because the lack of 4A teams in Johnson Central's southern quadrant and the ones looking for a conspiracy will say it is because JC is being black balled. If those teams that were mentioned (Perry, Letcher, Clay, Knox) increase the total amount of teams in close proximity, I don't know why you would fight your current classification. If Perry and Letcher petition to remain up in 5A, why would you not try to move up to play those teams within an hour’s drive.
  16. I agree but with the expansion of the Mountain Parkway coming in the near future, maybe it will open up a lot of new potential district arrangements and not leave JC out in the boondocks. Several years ago they were in a district with Woodford Co. and Bryan Station. I see no legitimate reason why the locations I have mentioned would be an issue when compared to where they have been in the past. Ultimately, the KHSAA has the final say and all teams will be where the KHSAA wants them to be.
  17. Actually several teams are located within a more reasonable distance based off of driving time and not mileage. Perry Central, Letcher Central, North and South Laurel are easier to get to and it takes the same, if not less, amount of time to get to in comparison to their current district with the exeption of Ashland.
  18. 3-3 vs. CovCath, even though they have been owned by them the past two seasons. They have not, and will not, beat or compete with those teams again until the playbook expands past 3 plays.
