I get it if you are under maned or trying to get out of a large deficit. But when you are up why not use the clock to your advantage. Just because I can get a shot off doesn't make it a good one

33 - 3 point attempts for the Cougars. Over half their shots from the 3 point line. I can tell you they aren't afraid to fire it up quick no matter game situation. But that is going to bite you at times I don't mind shooting 3's but everything should come in moderation.

Nice article from Elizabethtown newspaper. TheNewsEnterprise.com Highlights of things I saw at the game. Erin Boley does so many things other than score. No secret to anyone that has seen her play but what makes her so much better than everyone else is her ability to make everyone around her better. The game against sk is a great example of what makes her special. Sk was able to hold her in check scoring for the most part (Buckner for sk did s tremendous job guarding her) but that didn't bother her. She kept playing and contributed in all other aspects including 12 rebounds and 3 of elizabethtowns 17 assists. Her team first approach is refreshing and certainly a huge part of her overall success. I truly believe e-town is better than they were last year. Scary for the rest of the state By contrast SK only had 6 assists lead by a kid that is not a primary ball handler. Sk seemed to be focused on 'me' first and team second. Whereas e-Town whipped the ball around, Sk seemed to hold the ball looking to score instead of moving it to the open players. Also really struggled against the pres as they wanted to dribble thru double teams instead of passing. Sk big continues to post and the guards simply look at her. She needs to improve on finishing consistently but the guards must feed the post the ball. Harmeyer was back for sk. Niece for sk struggled and went down with an injury well after the game was decided. E town jumped out early in 3rd and capitalized on too many unforced turnovers to put the game out of reach. Hopefully etowns display of ball movement and leadership by Erin boley set a good example for the pioneers.

I can tell,you that while a lot of young girls show promise. It's always way premature to label them d1. Very very few have that God given athletics and combined skill at such an early age that makes them a clear cut choice. Some of the girls playing varsity you have mentioned have some challenges to overcome before they will be considered d1. For example, will they grow? If you only 5'4" then you better have some great physical abilities such as speed, shooting etc. Some have terrible habits right now on both ends of the floor. I was told to watch one girl and I saw her spin move in the lane and shoot underhanded. Must have shot underhanded in The lane 4 times. That will not work at a high collegiate level Let the kids enjoy the experience and teach them the correct fundamentals and if they work extremely hard they may have this kind of opportunity.

I have seen the Creech girl play a number of times. First I will say she is a very good player. What she is able to do at the High School level is very commendable. However, she does not have very strong support on her team and I'm not sure that team would win any game without her on it. No matter what anyone says about the competition she plays etc... She still does it and does it with everyone knowing that it is coming and she is very efficient. Just look at her shooting % and keep in mind she isn't a 7' center shooting all layups. However, most of her scoring is done by splitting a double team around the foul line and shooting a 10' floater or finishing off and offensive rebound. That said, I don't believe this type of play will translate into the Collegiate level. That does not mean she will not be successful, but she will never come close to these numbers. She does have some holes in her game that she will need to work hard at to improve to be successful at the next level. From what I have seen, she apparently has the work ethic and dedication to maybe focus on and improve these areas. Truly amazing High School career and you really have to be in such a unique situation to ever see anyone put up these kind of numbers. Anyone that doesn't recognize her talents are just plain silly.

Clyde great point. I didn't mean to incline that the player should not have been the recipient of a foul because they were out of control. Poorly worded on my part. I'm trying to say that when you have an offensive player purposely running into the defensive player, who is in a LGP and makes no effort to block the shot, isn't moving etc... and is simply ran into, then that player shouldn't be awarded a foul. Is that a fair assessment? Personally, I think first option is no call should be made; play on. Second option is offensive charging. I do not believe the offensive foul should be awarded with foul shots. I agree 100% that just because an offensive player may be out of control or appear out of control does not constitute that they cannot be fouled.

And no... I don't enjoy watching a kid drive into the lane out of control and simply throwing the ball in the air hoping to have a foul called. I'm good if they are under control and take and actual shot.

Carp Diem... I'm not sure I referenced a benefit for either team. Believe me I think one particular SK player benefits enormously from driving to the basket have fouls called and getting to the line. Most of the time offense initiates the contact. That said... I don't think that is the correct call. I saw a whole lot of that last night and I will say again. Its not the correct call. Officials need to educate themselves by not being afraid to ask their peers, peer coach or head official how they should approach an offensive player driving into the lane and initiating contact. Your better crews do not and will not fall for it. When these teams get into the important games with good crews they simply struggle because they have developed some very poor habits. By the way, you made my point for me. The Euro step is not two steps and two steps are a walk. So if that is what you saw. Then you agree with me. Two steps is a walk. Please look it up in the rule book. That rule hasn't changed for many many year. The Euro is very unique and most kids do not perform it properly and therefore the bad officials allow kids to take two giant steps before shooting. Should be a walk every time.

I'm not sure I referenced a team. Your comments suggest I was referring to one team What is bad about the game right now is the officials that simply don't know how to call a game. Especially on the girls side. Athleticism doesn't force any team to give up a foul or drive. It may pressure a defense to cut driving lanes off and give up jumpers by collapsing the defense or pressure other areas. I will say that I don't think Scott's athleticism at all overwhelmed sk. Really didn't see much of an advantage for any player on the floor to be honest I though Scott was more aggressive in trying to get to the rim. But then again Scott played a 1 3. 1 nearly entire game that limits driving opportunities for the offense and forces a team to be a little more patient. Referees that allow players to two step directly at a basket and literally jump into the defender makes for a terrible called game and sloppy called game. Two steps is a walk and not a euro step, the defender has a right to their spot and is not a defensive foul when the offense initiates contact and players just bull rush their way to the goal. I would love to see a shot chart because it would be interesting to see how many close range shots were missed. It seems the offensive players mind set was to initiate contact while making the shot was secondary. Not enjoyable at all to watch and does nothing to prepare teams for when it counts. Better crews will make the proper calls and then parents and players will think they did an awful job when they actually called a correct game I can assure you this crew will not fair well in their evaluations

I'm not sure if it was the tempo or the fact that the refs always called fouls on the defense when the offensive player was driving to the basket. Way to much dropping your head running at the basket throwing the ball in the air (not shooting) out of control something of basketball moves. Defenses didn't have a chance in this one. Very very sloppy

Keys to this game: Sk Limit Scott transition points and force them into jump shooters Limit drives to basket Move the ball on offense; to many open players not getting the ball Rebound and attack Scott Prevent niece from getting into the lane Try to create turnovers with pressure and convert them to points Rebound Allow Sk to be one dimensional on offensive end which will limit their offensive output

Butler controlled the entire game and really looks solid in every facet. Good game to watch and Mason fought hard to try and get back in it but never really threatened. Butler is demonstrating why they are in a group of teams that are separated from everyone else.

So I started reading this thread and I don't see anyone declaring SK as 8th Region champions. I do see you taking the first shot because SK lost??? I have no idea who UKLover is but aren't they entitled to an opinion? If not, then why are you entitled to one? I think its fair to ask why if you are truly looking for an informed comment vs stirring the pot. So my question is how many 8th Region teams have you seen RCC9? Just curious because I want to know what you are basing your comments from. As for my opinion, I thought and still think SK is in the driver seat for the 8th. I don't believe its their title but I think they control their own destiny. I also don't think SK has played good ball at all this season which is why I'm optimistic. I think the goal is to peak toward tournament time and we have plenty of room to keep going toward that direction. The good news is SK has all the necessary tools but are missing a few key ingredients that will hopefully come thru as the season goes along. They are very young and have to realize they have to show up to play every game for one. Also, need leadership to develop and to improve on the defensive end for a few others. Yes other teams will improve but I think SK has five kids that can score and they simply aren't getting that right now. So, if they can improve on these areas I think their upside is much higher than most teams I have seen thus far so that is why I feel good about where they are at this point. I'm watching 8th graders, and primary Soph go against SR heavy teams and SK is either winning by close games or losing by close games. Once these youngster get comfortable and start playing relaxed and up to their abilities then they should be sound. By the way, very good teams as their schedule is extremely difficult and I do expect them to take loses this year. Your opinions are welcome.

I actually don't understand the relevancy of the SK parent comment. My wife says things all the time that I have to explain to her the actual rule for that situation. That doesn't make her right. The call in question was made and it was made correctly. As I stated before, I haven't talked with and official nor have I ever been in a discussion with any that would have called that situation a foul. I'm assuming that is what you are referring too. Bottom line, I think Clyde explained it the best it could be explained and it just simply is not a shot. I would say that WV as well as SK should focus on the number of other unforced errors or decisions that had an equal impact to the overall outcome.

I'm not sure why anyone has a beef with this crew. I think they did a good job overall and had the guts to make the right calls.

I do have another rules question for Clyde. As a previous poster stated. There were a number of occasions on an outside shot attempt by WV that a WV player in the paint simply would fall in an effort to draw a foul. I can't say every fall but I watched on two occasions from the base line where the player simply fell to attempt to have a foul called. Is there a ruling against this type of play? Seems very dangerous as bodies would often begin piling up over the fallen player.

This is why I have stated from the beginning that this is more of a throw and not a shot. This is clearly not a legitimate shot attempt. Good effort by the player to sale it though. The NBA would not call this a shot attempt because and Clyde provided the perfect explanation as to why it is not.

Read post #18. The one under the goal raised his hands briefly and must have dropped them equally as fast as the ref closest to the play signaled intentional. I only saw the one under the goal from my peripheral as I was watchin the ball, the call and then Walton's fans in that order. I only initially see 1 ref in video and never see all 3 unless I'm missing something.

I'm at a ufc event and just showed this video to 3 local officials and all 3 didn't hesitate. No foul. Didn't hesitate. Again, good effort but not a shot during foul. One even thought foul occurred before the motion toward basket. In the end. It comes down to the most important 3 on the floor. They made their call

Don't post too much of the video though. People on here may never come back to the site if they have to watch 25 for SK hold the ball for 3+ min. during the 3rd and 14 hold the ball for 3+ min during the 4th qtr. Not a fun game to watch
