  1. To be honest this whole thing has turned into idiocracy. Its like people are throwing darts at a wall of pictures and ideas daily and determining thats the next step. Let's open the state back up but you need masks on that particular date, the day before you're fine, no mask needed. But let's open it up to get people back to work and see what happens, those that need childcare options to be able to go back to work are essentially screwed though, because childcare isn't a necessity, just quit your job. Yet likely half of the work force in this state has kids. I can't say its humorous because its not. It is a bit alarming and silly though. For what its worth the childcare issue won't effect me personally, but it will for people I know as they are allowed to go back to work, yet won't have anyone to watch their kids. Then the mask thing. Why do we not need them now, but are being forced to wear them in a couple of weeks? None of it makes much sense to me.
  2. That could be changed as well, likely within a week or less. But again, it all goes back to timing. They needed to roll the money out asap with so many people living from paycheck to paycheck. In a sense it does seem like it could also be a social experiment as far as that goes. Give away free money, see how ppl spend it. Unfortunately most that need the money will likely fail when it comes down to how they spend it and will end right back in the same position they were in to begin with
  3. That's likely happening at more places than you would imagine. When a worker at a Walmart in Ashland had tested positive a hazmat team from the fire department went in and fogged the entire store. Since then Walmart hired a local cleaning and restoration company to come in and do that nightly.
  4. Those are my thoughts as well. The weekly bonus for those on unemployment could easily be calcuculated and averaged to what said person made on average per week over the past 6 months. But, that would be more work and also take more time. The fact that the IRS is running on reduced staff as well as most of the people that are getting said money needed it right away, makes me feel like rolling it out the way they did was likely the best option. I'm generally not one that is all for handing out free money but this situation is different and I'm okay with it. I just hope that those that are receiving more than they normally make are putting that extra money in savings until they know whether their job is safe when this is over.
  5. I can get on board with that. They should be somewhat monitored though so that people practice social distancing, otherwise it could be a disaster until we know more about this virus. I'll say that here locally there was a girl that walked through Central Park and took a picture of the pond and fountains, then posted said picture on social media. She caught a lot of backlash from that due to the inside of the park is supposed to be closed, yet the sidewalks around the park are open for walking. I defended her on that because she was practicing social distancing better than those walking around the park on the sidewalks. She wasn't hurting anyone or touching anything in the park, yet people that are walking around it sit on the benches along the sidewalks, walk in groups, etc. Turns out she was homeless and just wanted to take a picture of an empty area of the park while walking from point a to b. Long story short is that the guidelines that we are living by are not reasonable at all. Beaches and parks should be open as long as people practice social distancing and stay off from playground equipment, etc. There is a mental health aspect to this that will effect some more than others. The longer they're told to stay home, inside, etc the more likely they are to have negative mental health effects from this.
  6. Yeah I can see both sides of that. I feel like we can open some things up but we have to be careful with what we open up. "Crowded" beaches, sports arenas, cruise ships, amusement parks, things like that shouldn't be opened up right away, imo. There are ways to open up a lot of businesses as well as other things though that don't hold mass amounts of people.
  7. You're right about the fact that anyone can contract the rona right after a test, so that point of the test is useless in that sense, it more less just gives some people peace of mind that they don't have it even if they had been sick from something else. To be honest though I believe the biggest reason for the testing is to allow doctors, the cdc, etc to learn more about the virus, mainly how is spreads as well as whether it is spreading more or less rapidly at any given time. Of course the numbers aren't going to be completely accurate, but you can at least gather data from the percentage of those that have been tested that are either positive or negative, as well as notice trends as to how quick it is spreading or if it has slowed down.
  8. I've accepted that things are going to open back up soon whether they should or not. There is only so long that you can keep us "quarantined " before those that can't accept it lose their minds and riots, etc start happening. That said I've also accepted that if I get it due to having to work then I get it. We take the needed precautions to keep from getting it, as well as spreading it if we were asymptomatic. But it seems that things are about to open back up to ramp up the economy. Stay safe everyone, look at it as you are protecting yourself, family, as well as anyone else you may encounter while you're out spending those stimulus checks.
  9. My guess would be that the checks hit. Withdrawals and such.
  10. An advance of tax credit sounds like something that will need to be paid back, in taxes or interest at a later date. Next tax season possibly?
  11. Paul Blazer in Ashland has been doing that for a while now I believe. I do know they're at least using the campus and gym to screen possible patients.
  12. Thats what I was told as well. I'm curious at what percentage this will be taxed at when that time comes though. I'm feeling like it will be taxed similar to a work related bonus which is 40% for my better half. People need to realize that before they just spend it all and figure it out later. Hence why we moved the majority of ours to savings.
  13. Yeah thats not correct info. We got ours yesterday and don't fall into that category either. From what I gather its more about the IRS having direct deposit on file and if you have filed returns the past couple of years. For what its worth we moved all of the kids and half of ours to savings. It hasn't been taxed yet from what I can tell and I imagine it will be taxed at about 40% next tax season. So in other words people that don't need it shouldn't necessarily spend it just yet.
  14. Its been really tough for us since we are still working 8-12 hours a day, then come home and play teacher as well as get everyone fed. It's not too bad for our oldest kids, one is a senior and the other is a junior in high school, as they are able to do their work on their own, we just check over it and help them when needed. Its a different story for our 2nd grade daughter though. At that age her brain is still like a sponge but needs proper instruction to learn everything properly. Obviously we know how to do her work but teaching it and getting her to learn it has been a different story and we simply don't have enough time in the day to teach her properly, that would be different if we weren't both working longer hours than normal. We actually hired a tudor for her to come 4 days a week, but as the virus has progressed and cases went up the tudor and we agreed to put that on hold as well. I'm worried that my daughter may not be ready for the 3rd grade, but at this point in time there isn't a lot I can do about it. The homeschooling has honestly effected us more than any other aspect of this virus.
  15. Sweden is a country that can likely get away with that, among some others. People rarely travel there outside of for pleasure and most people aren't taking vacations right now. Completely different scenario compared to what we have going on here.
  16. We are typically a family that eats at home more often than not but this virus has changed that. We are both still working then come home and play teacher for the kids, so we haven't had as much time to cook at home other than on our days off. We're trying to eat from local places rather than chains as often as possible, but sometimes the chains and fast food places are just more convenient.
  17. There is a very large one in Boyd County as well. It brings in people from all over this portion of the country and actually generates a lot of tourism revenue. Thankfully they shut down pretty early due to the fact that most of their customer base is not local to the Ashland area.
  18. I still have to work. Fortunately with my line of work I can make it though the entire day with only interacting with the person that is in the truck with me. But we drive all over the Ashland area at least 5 days a week so I see what stores are busy, I see how much traffic is on the roads, as well as how many people are in cars as well as their age groups. Just to touch on the subject a little deeper Boyd County ordered all parks shut down a while back. Yet a week or so later the city of Ashland had to go remove the basketball goals in their parks because people were still playing pickup games. Long story short, people don't listen unless they are forced to do so.
  19. Of course it has an impact. But not as great of one as it would have if people didn't not follow the rules and have Coronavirus parties and such. My point is that certain things were shut down and people were asked to stay at home unless it was to go get something essential. But that's like an honor system and at this point in time us humans aren't that honorable. Most just do what they want and find alternatives to going to the movies and such. Families that usually have a single person or two go on shopping trips to the grocery store are now bringing the whole family along, because it's something to do and they're all "bored." That's not following along with staying at home unless you need to go out for essential things though. Then there are the cars full of high school kids I keep seeing daily. Where are they going, what are they doing, getting groceries I suppose? I've had kids that I know and respect, they're good kids in general, but they're telling me that they carry groceries in their car just to have an excuse to being out cruising around. My point is nothing is shut down and the places that are have a loophole to use if they wish. Add a meat cooler to your store and you're essential.
  20. What shutdowns lol? I have to be out and about for work daily 5 days a week, sometimes 6 or 7 days a week. The shutdowns are meaningless, other than it has changed some people's habits. But 75% of us are not staying at home. I can determine that from vehicular traffic alone.
  21. This is really starting to hit home in Boyd County as numbers begin to rise. Everyone that prays please do so for my aunt. She lives in Ashland but works in Huntington and the normal mail carrier for her workplace had not been delivering mail since Monday. Yesterday she asked the new carrier where the normal one had been and she was told that he is sick and waiting on test results to come back. Fast forward to last night and she started showing covid symptoms and called the KDMC hotline this morning to describe her symptoms and they told her to come in and they would test her for the flu, strep and covid. Her temperature broke overnight but was still high when she went to the hospital this morning and has risen since then.
  22. There will also be a field hospital build on the state fairgrounds in Louisville. A 2,000 bed tent(s) essentially. That should be an eye opener for those that think this virus is no big deal.
  23. Geezus. I'll give ya credit, you are a very strong minded person. But you really need to start opening your mind when it comes to this virus. Forget about the numbers you see and look at the broader spectrum, going forward. I would rather be wrong about this and you be right. But seriously no one knows because the damn numbers are way behind.
