The 2012 team was good, losing two regular season games by a combined 2 points to Anderson County and Collins. I still can't believe they lost to J-Town in the 2nd round of the playoffs. 2009 team was probably better than 2012. Obviously things were different when they were one school and in 6A but that team was fun to watch. They were 9-2 before losing to Trinity in the playoffs. Lots of kids from that team played/are still playing a lot of football in college. I don't think this year's team is better than 2009, but comparing the two may not be fair.

I hope that didn't come across as critical of the coaching staff. They are just two years removed from a State Title for crying out loud! I was just hoping someone could help me understand. I'm sure Lucas is doing what is best for the team and he knows way more about football than I do. However, saying that Shelby will win is just being realistic. Collins still has a ways to go in their rebuilding and just hasn't been very good at times. I don't think that is crazy to say, I'm just being a realist.

Offensive line has been a huge disappointment from Collins. They have plenty of experience, but it seems like the heart and passion that Collins teams have played with in the past is missing. On the flip side, that is what makes Shelby better than their talent level and past couple of seasons would suggest. They just seem to care more and want it more and have pushed themselves to get a whole lot better. Like you said, Roseberry and the rest of the gang just quit the first time around. Hopefully they won't embarrass themselves again. People keep bringing up youth, and yes, that is somewhat of a factor for Collins. But the biggest problem seems to be a lack of pride and passion for this team. Whenever a team just quits, that is a major red flag.

Very true. Terrible play from the offensive line and quarterback have killed Collins all year long and is why they will lose to Shelby once again. I don't really know why Lucas continues to try to run a spread offense with a QB that can't throw and a line that can't block. I will say it is nice to see more Collins/Shelby supporters on here. However, I don't see why anyone could think Collins will win this game. They could make it somewhat close, but they just aren't very good.

Great preview as always. I have no problem with Collins starting out at 8 (it's Layne not Lane BTW) but I agree that Gaither could have them rolling by the end of the year. It seems like every year Collins loses a lot and somehow ends up winning 20+ games. Now this year really could be their "down" year but the potential is there for them to have a successful season. They play a good schedule as always and will lose some games, but I think they will be ready to go for the postseason. 5 seniors are back with Clarkson and Test (who I think is underrated) leading the way. Also, getting Dominique Turner back from injury will be huge. He missed last year's postseason run and will add much needed size and length inside. Nick Eades is also back after playing a lot of minutes as a freshman. The other young guys Collins has can really shoot the ball and will help make up for the offense lost to graduation. Defense, however, is what Gaither really focuses on and is what has won his teams a lot of games. Collins is very lucky to have Chris Gaither as their coach, as he is arguably one of the best young coaches in this area, winning 96 games in his first 4 seasons. I'm excited to see what he is able to do with this team.

Surely it won't be 44-0, it can't really get any worse than that game. I don't think Collins has the offense to win it, but I hope they at least put up a fight.

Spencer has had a great year, but hasn't played a team as good as John Hardin. They also have never played in a big playoff game like this. With it being at John Hardin, I think JH wins going away.

Pretty much. Their passing game is weak but their backs are hard to stop.

Sad to see a team just quit. Not sure if that says something about the players or the coaches. Luckily it all comes to an end next Friday.

Like I said last week, Collins has quit for the season. 30-0 before the half.

There will be no playoff run. If they somehow get by Valley in the first round Shelby County is waiting to blow them out again in the second round.

Collins does have some of young talent. Eades and Stucker at LB and Roseberry at RB are great pieces to build around for the future. Lucas needs to get a whole lot better (and taller) in order to play varsity QB. I kinda wish Coach Lucas would give someone else a shot a QB. It can't get much worse than last night.

They win two games in their district. Not sure what your problem with Collins is, they have never even played John Hardin and would get a running clock put on them if they played this year.

I forgot to add, I was also surprised to see Grant Clarkson in the Top 10 and not Jakson Test as well. Grant is definitely deserving and crazy athletic, but Jakson is just as good, if not better.

I don't think Shelby is 3rd without Gordon. Still a solid team, but losing him hurts. Also, I was surprised to see South at 5. They must be expecting to be much improved from last season
