4A Darkhorses

Featured Replies

Everyone is saying that this is a two horse race between South Warren and Johnson Central. Who are the dark horses and why?

Ashland should not be considered a dark horse since they have as much talent as anyone, but as they are not listed I would include them when healthy. They can beat anyone in 4A on any given night and I think may have the best 2 players on the field against any 4A team. (I have not seen all 4A teams but have a hard time believing there are any better than Baker (best player in state to me) and O'bryan (spelling?))

Anyone outside of South Warren has got to be considered a Dark Horse. Unfortunately for them, they must play out the remaining 4 weeks per the KHSAA.

Now that sounds like a Highlands fan. I wouldn't be to bold with my predictions. You just never know who might be lurking out there.

The favorite is always the favorite until that night when everything goes crazy right for one team and crazy wrong for the other.

As someone stated above, it's why we play the next four weeks.

Hopkinsville could give them a game if they get by FS this week. They are fast

Shelby County. This is the best team they've had since the 1990's and if they can upset SW, they should be hoisting the trophy in Bowling Green.

What makes them better than your 2013 team.

Our 2013 team was very run-of-the-mill. Manica was only a sophomore and Zach Shipley had just graduated the year before. They had a so-so record of 6-5 while getting blown out in the second round by John Hardin. Our best win was against a barely decent Henry County team.

The 2012 team was good, losing two regular season games by a combined 2 points to Anderson County and Collins. I still can't believe they lost to J-Town in the 2nd round of the playoffs. 2009 team was probably better than 2012. Obviously things were different when they were one school and in 6A but that team was fun to watch. They were 9-2 before losing to Trinity in the playoffs. Lots of kids from that team played/are still playing a lot of football in college. I don't think this year's team is better than 2009, but comparing the two may not be fair.

Shelby is very good but will have to earn it. The Rockets likely will have to win at John Hardin and at South Warren to get to the championship game. That's a tough road.
