  1. According to khsaa DQ report, one player received a red card against CovCath 10/3/13 (2 game suspension against Conner (10/5) and Camp Co (10/15). The other player received a red card against Conner 10/5 (2 game suspension against Camp Co (10/15) and Brossart (10/17)). A side note: the same player red carded against CovCath also received a red card in the JV Regional Final against Brossart on 10/5. So according to the khsaa, that player must sit out two subsequent varsity games, but is allowed to participate (and get carded) in a JV game, with no consequence (zero game suspension). Interesting.
  2. this is priceless .. Coach Ted Lasso "my job just got a lot easier ... ties, and no playoffs!"
  3. That was my take on the play I witnessed (give the PK). As stated, the left outside mid was challenged. It was by no means a gimme .. I think most teams would take the opportunity at a PK versus a challenged advantage.
  4. I saw a similar play in a recent JV game. Right outside mid had a breakaway. Keeper came out and blew up the player, ball squirted to left side of box where left outside mid came charging (and was challenged), but missed wide. Right outside mid was injured on the play, and after the injury delay, the official yellow-carded the keeper. As I was leaving the game, I passed the official in the parking lot, and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked the official what the yellow card was for on the keeper. He stated the keeper made NO PLAY ON THE BALL, and attacked the offensive player WITH CLEATS UP. He stated that offensive team "had advantage", because the ball was loose in front of the net. He also said, that if the ball were not in an advantage situation, he would have red-carded the keeper for dangerous play, resulting in a PK. So where is the true advantage? Correct call?

  7. That bounce pass around the 2:19 mark is SICK!! The step-back 3s are killer, and as many great things as that young man does, that court vision and awareness and unselfish play is very impressive. Kudos to Coach Dawn for opening the door for EVERYONE to play. Best of luck to all the players .. should be a great season!!!

  9. it should never get to that .. just play the game. Really? And what if Harrison was up big and Martin plucked a player as a result of the harassment? Everybody would be complaining. Like I said .. it should never get to that, and the CC coach should prevent it from happening. Sounds like it was almost encouraged, based on the post-game compliment.
  10. Should be an exciting year in Augusta next season. Best of luck!!
  11. Are those three players sophomores-to-be? If I recall, Augusta had three freshmen who contributed this season.
  12. After reading your comment again, I think I misunderstood what you meant. You are accurate. Mea Culpa!
  13. Actually, just the opposite. From the practice in baseball of arranging the diamond with the batter facing EAST to avoid the afternoon sun. A left-handed pitcher facing WEST would therefore have his pitching arm toward the south of the diamond. Hence, southpaw.
  14. Fair enough. But the two students I'm aware of that were cut had both been playing CC Knothole since t-ball. Both played multiple positions, and both pitched in knothole. Both were considered "decent" .. they could play. I just assumed it was a numbers game they got caught up in. Unacceptable for these two STUDENTS to be cut over 8th graders.
  15. Always told my kids (when they were younger) that the Reds couldn't serve beer the rest of the season if they lost on Opening Day. "Why dad?" "You can't serve beer if you lose the Opener!!"
  16. I'm sure the 8th graders are great kids, and probably really good players. However, if kids walking the halls of the school that is displayed on the jersey want to play, regardless of how bad they are, they should be playing over kids that don't attend the school. This topic has been beat to death in many forums. I just firmly believe that high school athletics should be about the kids that ATTEND A PARTICULAR school (even if they "were not very good"). And don't say "the 8th graders attend CCMS .. they'll be there next year". If so, they can wait and play next year.
  17. according to reports, Nate Verst pitched on Saturday against Colerain. Despite this being a district game, I doubt he pitches today.
  18. I am aware of two current CCHS freshmen students who tried out for the baseball team, who were cut. When I heard that, I was not aware that 8th graders were selected ahead of them. If all of that is true, it is a shame.
  19. Unless there is a referee standing between coach and #21, I'll go out on a limb and say that #21 is catching the wrath of Coach. Just sayin' ...
  20. The "etc." above means "Ft. Thomas Highlands". If they got moved to the 10th, all holy hell would break loose. They consider Alexandria to be the boondocks!! Secession from the state would probably ensue! LOL
  21. I understand .. no harm intended. I thought you were implying that attending Brossart for athletics wasn't a good idea. The case for going to BBHS for athletics is an very attractive reason to attend, as opportunities exist FOR ALL STUDENTS in ALL SPORTS. Oh, and by the way, you get a first-rate quality education!! Education is first and foremost .. totally agree .. the athletic programs (as well as all the other non-athletic extra-curriculars BBHS offers) are simply icing on the cake!
  22. That does make perfect sense. I do feel much better knowing he will still be playing baseball .. he is a unique athlete with great skills at both sports. Thanks to you and Jack for the clarification. Best of luck to Brady in BOTH sports!
