  1. As mentioned on another thread, as much acclaim is deservedly given the Scott offense, there defense is equally impressive. Most great futbol teams are built from the back forward. Scott is no different. I haven't seen Boyle play, so it's hard to make a valid prediction. If Boyle were to win, they must be really good.
  2. The unstoppable force meets the immovable object ... MoCo comes in scoring over 100 goals, while the BB defense has only allowed 12. However, I think we might be able to throw some of the numbers out. 40 of MoCo goals were in mercy games; 29 other goals against teams with a combined 20-45-6 record. BB had several shutouts against less than stellar squads. However, they had some really good shutouts. 12 goals allowed by BB is really good. 4 of those were to Scott (one on PK), an exceptional team. It was reported that the goal against Highlands was an own goal, and a PK against St Henry. Throw those out .. 6 goals in the remaining 17 games (0.35/game) .. wow. I look at two games on MoCo schedule .. beat Campbell Co 4-2, beat Harrison Co 9-2. Those are teams BB dispatched rather easily. If those two can score 2 goals each against MoCo, I'll take BB in a hard-fought 3-1 win.
  3. All girls games will be played at Clark Co HS (even if it is BB vs. CC). according to Riherds: Girls Championship at 4pm at Clark Co HS Boys Championship at 5pm at Scott HS
  4. Just like it wasn't a good year last year for the 10/11 matchup (Brossart/PLD), followed by PLD beating the 9/12 winner (Highlands). Bottom line .. Region 11 is ALWAYS a bad matchup (along with Region 7)!
  5. Game time will probably have more to do with what time the 10th Region GIRLS final game occurs, than the 9th or 12th boys. I believe there are five schools in the 10th that have both boys and girls playing. It would only be fair to stagger the times to allow fans from a school to see both play, IF that were to occur.
  6. from Riherds Harrison County vs Bishop Brossart, 10/21 at 6pm. Montgomery County gets the winner on 10/23. Pendleton County vs George Rogers Clark, 10/21 at 8pm. Scott gets the winner on 10/23. Finals on 10/25. All games at Scott
  7. It probably occurred with 3-4 minutes left in the match, a thru ball was played in the box, and 19 hit it with his arm. His body language indicated he knew he got away with one, but it wasn't called. Like I said .. no excuses .. great game by both teams. Everything left on the pitch. I probably should have given props to 9 for Scott as well, along with the keeper. Very effective players. All were rewarded with All Tourney, and deservedly so.
  8. Back to discussion of the game.... I think the observations presented by bothways and Heisenberg are really accurate. It was a hard fought game by two excellent teams. The skill level of these two teams is fun to watch. Very rough game by both teams; calls were made and missed for both teams. I heard 44 total fouls; 4 Yellow cards for Scott, 3 for BB. My observations: -34 is exceptional, but 7 is the straw that stirs the drink. Excellent player. The play dropped off significantly when he went out with a card. -For BB, it was unfortunate the handball in the box by Scott late in the game was missed, especially since the game winner was earned (accurately) on a handball in the box -BB coach's decision (and one I agree with) to sit players with a yellow had an impact on the game. I'm not saying it would have changed the outcome, but better to lose the battle (last night's game) than to lose the war (if a player were to miss next week's action as a result of 2 yellows = 1 red). -Scott coach's decision to return 7 to the field after his card was gutsy. Not sure I would have been happy if I were a Scott fan, had he picked up a 2nd yellow and missed next week's games (Scott will prob draw a bye and only need to win 2 games to win Regional) -33 for BB was outstanding. He was in 34's jersey the entire game, after 19 left the pitch with a yellow. He was able to prevent 34 from finding the back of the net, and effectively neutralized him. 34 still had a great game (MVP), but not the usual impact. MoCo will have a say in the tourney next week, but it will surprise no one to see these two square off again next week.
  9. The Rules book (as well as all Rules book published by the National Federation of State High School Associations) is available for purchase at http://www.nfhs.org/sports-resource-content/buy-nfhs-rules-publications/ The information I quoted was found at https://www.nfhs.org/media/885680/2014-soccer-guide-interscholastic.pdf. It contains a comparative study of rules and laws of soccer between high school, collegiate and FIFA.
  10. I stand corrected .. I was looking at FIFA laws. According to NFHS, Rule 12, a yellow card can be issued for: Entering or leaving field w/o referee permission; persistent infringement of rules; dissent; incidental profane language; unsporting conduct; delays restart; encroachment on free kicks and corner kicks; Coach and bench personnel CAN be carded. (yellow or red) using electronic devices to communicate with players; use of tobacco at game site. Unsporting conduct includes coaching outside of box, faking injury, simulating a foul. Cautioned player must go off, if subbed for, may return at next opportunity to sub. Coach may be cautioned for team or bench misconduct that cannot be attributed to a specific player. Coach cautioned if player enters illegally equipped – there- after player w/ illegal equipment is cautioned. Hand ball or foul to prevent goal and ball goes into goal Delayed or excessive acts to focus attention on player or prohibits timely restart; Red cards can be distributed for: 2nd caution (cannot be replaced); violent conduct; taunting; serious foul play; hand ball to prevent goal if ball does not go into goal; foul against an opponent who is moving toward goal with an obvious opportunity to score; spitting at an opponent, teammate or official; using offensive, insulting or abusive language or gestures; leaves bench when a fight is taking place. Coach and bench may be carded.
  11. that doesn't mean the referee was correct in his actions! Which then brings up a whole new conversation (competence of officials) .. seems we've come full circle!!!
  12. some points of clarification: -in soccer, "rules" are referred to as "laws" -coaches/team personnel cannot be "carded". According to "Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct": The yellow card is used to communicate that a player, substitute or substituted player has been cautioned. The red card is used to communicate that a player, substitute or substituted player has been sent off. Only a player, substitute or substituted player may be shown the red or yellow card. A player who commits a cautionable or sending-off offence, either on or off the field of play, whether directed towards an opponent, a team-mate, the referee, an assistant referee or any other person, is disciplined according to the nature of the offence committed. -Under "Powers and Duties", the Referee "takes action against team officials who fail to conduct themselves in a responsible manner and may, at his discretion, expel them from the field of play and its immediate surrounds"
  13. agree ... he was pretty darn good for Scott last year. Maybe deferred too much, which is understandable, since he was just a freshman. No holding him back this year.
  14. It's the ARs responsibility to stay even with the second-to-last defender, until the ball passes that defender. If that player is 10 yards from the endline when a ball is passed thru, and crosses the endline .. you're right, it's hard to tell, especially if it's played with a lot of velocity. But the AR was in the correct position.
  15. Typically, the regional tournaments rotate amongst the Districts. So, the host of the regional tournament cannot be determined until the District tournament champion is crowned. Once that is determined, you have to check on field suitability, availability, etc.
  16. Also from the same document: The semi-state pairings for six-year period are: SS 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 1 1@4 3@1 1@2 4@1 1@3 2@1 2 3@2 2@4 3@4 2@3 4@2 4@3 3 5@8 7@5 5@6 8@5 5@7 6@5 4 7@6 6@8 7@8 6@7 8@6 8@7 5 9@12 11@9 9@10 12@9 9@11 10@9 6 11@10 10@12 11@12 10@11 12@10 12@11 7 13@16 15@13 13@14 16@13 13@15 14@13 8 15@14 14@16 15@16 14@15 16@14 16@15 So, for 2014, Region 3 is at Region 1, 2@4, 7@5, 6@8, 11@9, 10@12, 15@13, 14@a16
  17. from http://khsaa.org/handbook/competitionrules/socompetitionrules.pdf: In a region tournament with participants from three districts, the draw shall be conducted as follows. The format will follow a standard eight-team bracket with two byes, those falling into positions 2 and 7. The district winners shall draw for positions 1 and 8 in the bracket. The district winner not drawing a bye shall draw for a position in slots 3 through 6. The district runner-up to the district champion drawing for position in slots 3 through 6 will draw into one of the two remaining slots in the bracket opposite the district winner, and the remaining two runner-up teams will be placed opposite their corresponding district winners in the remaining two slots in the bracket.
  18. I saw them early in the year last season, with a new coach and a bunch of sophomores, but you couldn't tell. You could see they were well coached, and had some talent. Nothing against any of the other top teams .. no surprises at the top of the list ... but another year of development in that system, and it would not surprise me one bit to see them snipping nets in March at BOKC.
  19. If you call someone at their office, and they don't answer, you don't think twice about it ... you leave a message. But if you call someone working from home and they don't answer, you immediately get suspicious. Unfair Double Standard.
  20. Very, very good game. And a good overall observation by Yellow. Both keepers were as billed .. Paulin was very good, Williams was outstanding. In an effort to get all seniors on the field at the start of both halves, several players were playing in different positions. As a result, some major mistakes were averted in the first 5 minutes of the game, but it bit the Mustangs in the first minute of the second half. And then the injury to Dierig in the 44th minute removed a threat. 20 shots in the game for BB, 11 on goal, all saved. Not taking ANYTHING away from Cooper .. a really good team. They will be a major threat in the 9th. A great night of futbol .. best of luck to both teams in the postseason.
  21. Each team is limited in total number of games they are allowed to play. If "forced" to play 3 District games, where the outcome is already known (including by the respective coaches .. no disrespect intended .. just stating the obvious), that eliminates 3 quality games that CCH now plays, which better prepares them for Regional and State tournaments. Again, no disrespect intended, but what is gained from a CC/Latin regular season game?
  22. The one goal Brossart/Paulin allowed against Highlands was an own goal. Shoulda/woulda/coulda been 8 SOs for Paulin. He's good, but it's hard to stop the other eleven AND one of your own!
  23. CovCath could be the #4 seed, and run away with this District. Doesn't matter what their seed is. Much ado about nothing.
  24. stopped in Malone's last night after a great day at Keeneland. Fantastic steak! It's not Ruby's, but it's not Longhorn's either.
