  1. HHS o-line completely dominated. They ran the ball at will. CovCath's answer was to role into a 4 man front in the second half. Still no use. O-line drove the blue boys home. Looking forward to rushing stats for HHS. Just a bunch of 5-9 yard gains that could not be stopped.
  2. Highlands has played very vanilla so far on offense. Keeping the cards close to the vest. Can't wait to see it open up.
  3. A lot of good football in NKY. But, I have to go with Campbell.
  4. Two years ago: the Birds beat the camels by a lot at the frosh level.
  5. Last week HHS played seven o-linemen. None had ever started a varsity game at o-line prior to last week. One had never dressed in a varsity game. One was a sophomore. Two had played in a varsity game but not on the o-line. Three played o-line last year but never got in before the fourth quarter. I have to believe the jitters will be fewer and fewer penalties. Cut down on the mistakes and HHS brings home a hard fought win.
  6. Is Austin Meyers playing this year for the camels or is he focusing on wrestling?
  7. This will be a close one. Looking forward to a battle.
  8. Congratulations to the Camels. Next week's game will be a good one in Alexandria.
  9. I have read BGP about once a day for the last 2 years. The only time I read a childish quote is when someone quotes them. Unfortunately, most posts to HHS threads are in response to silly quotes from two posters. BGP has an ignore option. I highly recommend it. The ignore option has greatly improved my BGP experience. Silence is the highest form of punishment.
  10. I remember stopping Fletcher was a whole team endeavor. But Brady definitely had quite a few tackles. Particularly remember a carry in the first series up the middle where Fletcher met two or three Breds for a one yard loss. Got the whole team fired up. A lot of gang tackling that night. The game plan was stop James Fletcher.
  11. Tim Jergens was the horse for NC that year at the running back spot. Jimmy Meyer and Mike Jordan also carried the ball a lot.
  12. Too close for me to tell. I remember the Jumper's '83 defense being extremely stingy. But '84 team had the Fletcher running game. NCC employed what Schneider called a "Rocket" defense (Base 5-3 with Jeff Brady following Fletcher where ever he went). I believe he had 14 carries and 13 yards in '84.
  13. Fletcher was ejected the next year at Somerset. NCC revenge.
  14. If JD is an 1984 grad, he would remember an 18 yard NC kick that went wide at Newport Stadium in November of '83. Heartbreaker.
  15. Evan Richardson has benched 405 on three different occasions with poor form (butt off the bench and no pause). Got 353lbs at the 2014 NASA competition with perfect form. Missed 363lbs at the same event. The video of 353lbs is on youtube. Squat is 525lb. Power clean 315lbs. Deadlift 585 lbs. Hudl video benching 335 for five in the winter.
  16. Kemo, What about getting a powerlifting event scheduled in NKY. Do you think there would be any interest among players and/or coaches?
  17. Kemosabeh. Don't look for your old VHS tapes. I was at a couple events and remember these guys from 83-86. They were very strong. However, I would like to see current players videos. Since NKY has no known events, my son has to travel to the mountains of EKY to compete. I am curious about what the guys in NKY are doing.
  18. 135% of body weight has always been my benchmark to determine a very good bench press. Just a rule of thumb.
  19. At the HS events, 300 lb. bench will get respect. 330 will get you somewhere in the top ten. 350+ will put you in the hunt to win the meet. Above 330, every ten lbs. is a major gain. I have only personally seen three high school players at 400 or above (one got 405 and two got 415 before graduation). P.S. I remember the Yeager brothers at Campbell. Kelly and his brother (can't remember his name) were dedicated to it. Super strong guys for their size.
  20. Olmsted's Hudl account lists his bench press as 330.
  21. I am not aware of any NKY schools with powerlifting clubs. I believe Connor or Bonne Co. used to have an annual event in the 80's.
  22. I would like to see powerlifting come back to NKY the way it was in the 80's and 90's. Western KY and Eastern KY continue to have good powerlifting programs. Trinity, North Bullett, Mercer Co., and Trigg Co. have done very well recently. Most of the eastern mountain teams have powerlifting clubs. Went to an event at North Laurel HS (London, KY) this March. Over 500 players from 17 teams. Great event. I hear Boyd County has a good event in early March.
  23. HHS, Mason Co. and Madison Central participated. Format was: Each school provided a first team offense and first team defense. Played two 7 on 7 games at a time. Each game using 50 yards of the field. Toward the end the second teams got a lot of reps. I was very impressed with Mason County's offense and defense. Quarterback was very accurate with his passes and the receivers looked sharp on their routes. Sorry, I can't give information on individual kids for Mason. I just don't know their roster. Mason seems to have a very good passing game this year. Hoge looked better than advertised. Extremely accurate with a ton of zip on the ball. He threw well rolling out and in the pocket. Had to be there to fully appreciate what he brings. Runs like McCoy or better and even more accurate than Houliston. Hard to tell what receivers had good days because a lot of guys playing throughout the game and two games going at a time with no numbers. A lot of catches by many different receivers. This will be a fun offense this year.
  24. Any players getting 400 lbs. in bench press?
