Yes they did. Highlands beat them straight up.

For whatever reason, X has never had an explosive offense. Good D by HHS as well adds up to not many points for X. It's just not their way.

X won the JV portion 20-0..

Sounds like the long INT TD return at the end 1st half was the difference. Nice job Birds.

I have been told by X and non X people that X tends to play their better players on defense. I've seen X play four times over the past few years and was always very unimpressed with their offense. Sloppy routes, poor footwork, conservative play calling, etc. Their defense is usually pretty nasty. Never really understood how a school like that doesn't have a super explosive offense.

X has a long long way to go on offense. There QB play was not good at all, Hergott would be considered in the QB race at X. BW completely out coached Specht, X at times had the wrong players on the field, fumbled a punt return and a kick off (Highlands squib kick). X will have to win a lot of games on D, but the Highlands passing game is so potent it was enough. Highlands passed probably 70% of the game. Factor that in and the fact that Hoge looks like Gino but more athletic and Highlands came away with a win.

 

Also, Trinity must be really really good.

It's still a nice win even if it is a scrimmage. Anytime you can beat Cincinnati St X, it's a good win.
