I have heard there are 2 (potentially a 3rd) local NKY coaches that are very interested and will be interviewing. Don’t want to mention names at this point. Sorry.

I don’t believe they (Gray MS) has ever had a great run of success in the MS leagues.

The size argument really matters most during "tryouts". I get that the more students that try out, the better picks of the bunch you should have. But, unfortunately, it doesn't always work out like that. Ryle is in an affluent part of town, so their are many aspects of economics that could come into play.

Do we think this will be a quick process to get someone in and get started with the marketing of the new program? Or, a slower, more drawn out process?

Code is a really good coach. His disciplined, tough, workman like style could work.

Who do you see or believe would be a good candidate for the job?

I don’t necessairly disagree with that. Just a name I mentioned as someone who might be a name to throw in the hat who has been a good head coach over a period of time.

Does anyone know of anyone who has actually applied, or interviewed?

I saw someone mention Rick shumate, wasn’t he let go from Beechwood before Goetz took over, or did he choose to walk away? And, didn’t he apply for Dixie and didn’t get the job? Or, did he not apply? Serious questions, but things I heard.

Those 3 could and do compete with good 9th Region teams. So, imo, if he were to go to Ryle, with potentially deeper talent pools, I could see him turning it around.

In the 10th... the 3 best, Campbell, GRC, and Scott. Typically good games.

Agree to disagree. Allen had Very few pieces around him in a smaller school. And, the game plan for every team was easy, slow Allen. Belcher still found ways to put Allen in great spots for PC to win games and compete with high level teams. At Ryle, Belcher would have more to work with, and he’s a basketball nut & historian. He could relate with kids easily. Played college basketball, and appears to be rather well connected.

I think hiring a JV coach again would be a mistake, just from the standpoint that you want to excite the fan base, players, parents, and community. I think you need an established head coach. With that said, there are only 2 or 3 head coaches already in the 9th that would fit the bill of what you might expect to see at Ryle after the last decade or so, and Sullivan & Ruthsatz aren’t going anywhere. Imo, if Ryle was going to “go after” someone, I think you look at guys like Snapp of Newport, Belcher of Pendleton, or Brannen at Walton (which I do NOT see him leaving). After that, you see who all applies and take the best of that bunch. If you did go with a JV coach, it’d have to be a guy like Franzen, as he’s been extremely successful and is a great guy. Whoever it is, it needs to be someone who can relate to people and excite the community.

It’s all rumor at this point, correct? I was told for fact that interviews have started, but that “fact” is a “rumor” as I have not been able to confirm with the school. I was also told they want someone with experience. There are a few really good candidates right in the 9th Region if any coaches have the gusto to take on Ryle. Firmly believe this school has the players to put together a team that can win early and often.

3 coaches in NKY that can be named with any coach in the state are Ruthsatz (CCH), Sullivan (Cooper), and Russell (Campbell CO.).

If only a season matters, give it to a junior (if deserving).

When the defense can stop it. Don’t understand why this is an issue.

Pulling for Convingtom Catholic and the local boys, but I have Scott County by 10+.

It’s a private school. I know kids who live in Independence, KY that go tio St. Henry and kids in Union, Ky that go to CovCath.

I am also of the memory that Harding did re-enter the game with seconds remaining in the 3rd, before sitting the entire 4thQ. I know 23, Sanders (I believe), checked in briefly after the tech. Then, he played in the 4th in place of 32.

This is absurd. Absolutely incorrect. A still shot shows nothing. Could have been raising his elbow to shoot or anything of the nature. CovCath is known for flopping about, and over-exaggerating situations. They did it all game. And, have been for several years. In this case, I don’t think it was a flop, though. I think the young man over played, got beat, Miller stopped on a dime and the kid was put off guard. Miller missed the shot anyway.

The old saying is that it’s hard to beat a team 3 times. I guess we’ll find out. I’ll take CovCath to win it in a barnburner! CCH by 2 late.

If we’re going to slam Harding for smack talking, then, don’t forget to add in Mayer, Thelen, and Disken from CCH. Been to many of CovCath games, and those boys talk a lot of “smack”. Along with shoulder bumps, screaming in the faces of players, and getting handsy after the whistle. It’s how they’re taught. They have a coach who does the same. And, people can say CovCath doesn’t get a “statewide” whistle, but that’s like saying Duke doesn’t get calls on the road. Just untrue. Don’t be so biased. Ps. Not saying CCH hasn’t earned the whistle. They are darn good!!

I believe at one point in the first half it was 7-1 in fouls, and in the second at one point it was 5-0. Atleast 2 of the charges seemed to be awful calls. And, what was the FT count in the second half? Seemed awfully lopsided.
