Final score from the 9th region All “A” Classic. Holy Cross advances to the semi-finals on Friday night at 8:00 pm and play the winner of St. Henry/Newport. Holy Cross broke open a close game in the 2nd half to come away with the win. Jacob Meyer led all scorers with 45 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. He shot 18/25 from the field. Javier Ward added 14 points and 5 assists. Beechwood was led by Cam Boyd with 23 points. 8th grade PG Cash Harney had 15 points. * Stats compliments of the Statman from Beechwood. RJAL - I know you weren't putting anyone down. I was making the point that it doesn't matter how many shots get taken and made from the wings etc....NO ONE is sagging off Meyer to run to the wings and leaving the lane wide open for him. I can make the argument that as the season goes along he will be double-teamed in the half court even more.

VOR - I've heard this argument from more than one person (outside of Latonia). If he was shooting 30% from the field and taking all the shots I would have a problem with it but shooting 57% is what I am trying to say is very impressive.

Every team wants to be more "balanced". The problem is that most schools don't have the luxury of just replacing seniors (especially ones that could score like Hicks, McClendon & Robinson from last year) and just plug 2 or 3 new guys in the next year and automatically get or stay "balanced". It doesn't always work like that at least not at most/small schools. Some people who don't watch the games and just see the box scores want to criticize this team because Jacob Meyer averages 41 and Javier Ward 17 but no one else is above 4. The star players will almost "always" take the most shots. Meyer has gotten his teammates much more involved this year. Most nights he is seeing a double-team at half court. It's up to the other guys to step up and makes shots. This team still has a chance to be really good in my opinion. They have already played the tougher part of their schedule.

Final from the City of Middletown Holiday Classic at Eastern HS. Holy Cross (8-2) was led by Jacob Meyer with 47 points. Zach Arlinghaus had 22 and Javier Ward added 19. Holy Cross will now the play the winner of the Eastern/Hopkinsville game tomorrow at 6:00 pm.

Without a doubt. Javier Ward averages 18 ppg coming into today but if they add a 3rd scorer they would be even more dangerous.

Did not get all the stats but think Meyer ended with with around 48. Zach Arlinghaus had 22 and Javier Ward with 19. HC led 66-46 at half. They will now play the winner of the Eastern/Hopkinsville game tomorrow at 6:00 pm.

Jacob Meyer broke his own single-game school scoring record he broke two weeks ago (53) with 58 points. Javier Ward added 32 for the Indians. Justin Becker had 48 points for Robertson County. The Black Devils got the lead down to 11 early in the 3rd before Holy Cross went on a run. I was impressed with Becker. Really nice player. RC 18 24 19 16 - 74 HC 28 29 28 26 - 111

Final from Union. Entertaining game from start to finish. Ryle jumped out to a quick 10 point lead shooting the ball extremely well in the first quarter leading 27-22 after one. Holy Cross would answer in the 2nd quarter with great 3-point shooting from Javier Ward and Jacob Meyer to take a 48-46 lead into halftime. The Indians gained control of the game in the 3rd quarter creating turnovers and transition baskets including a couple highlight dunks from Meyer (one a transition alley oop from Ward) and would lead by 8 heading into the 4th. Holy Cross would move their lead back out to as many as 13 but Ryle didn't quit in the final few minutes and the final score 87-83. Jacob Meyer led the way with 43 points for the Indians. Javier Ward had another nice game adding 24 points. I was very impressed with Donovan Robinson who is a fun player to watch and has unlimited shooting range. Final from Scott County (Toyota Classic). Congratulations to Holy Cross junior guard Jacob Meyer who broke the single game scoring record with 53 points tonight. The previous record was 49 held by Barry Scott back in 1984.

Great Week #1 write up B-Ball-fan well done. I agree that Cov Cath, Highlands and Dixie should be the top 3 at least right now. I do think that they are all 3 beatable on any given night especially HHS and DHS as evident by their losses already. We have a long season that needs to play out and should be a fun season again in the 9th region. Good luck to all teams!

Didn’t mean any disrespect DD. I said I respect your comment only asking why after 1 game balanced scoring came up and gave reason why it might take time for guys to step up with so many new players in the rotation. My apologies.

Double Deuce I appreciate your comment and concern about scoring but it's one game in and they played a solid team from Ohio and came away with a nice win on opening night and you are going to already ask about balanced scoring already. Don't most star players who average 25 ppg get up most of the shots? Meyer was great last night on 12/23 shooting. I'll take that every night. Also the Indians lost 3 key seniors from last year (McClendon, Hicks and Robinson) who did all the scoring (minus Meyer) last year so it may take some time to have these new kids develop their roles into varsity action for the first time.

Congratulations to first year head coach Casey Sorrell on getting his first varsity win tonight for Holy Cross in his first game over a very tough Hamilton team. The Indians were led by junior guard Jacob Meyer with 35 points on 12-23 shooting and 8/10 from the FT line. The Big Blue were led by Elijah Givens with 22 points on 8 of 23 shooting. The Indians led by as many as 15 late in the 4th quarter. Junior center Sam Gibson with a couple nice defensive plays/blocks late in the game.
