RIP. I never met him but I loved reading his weekly newsletter. Ky girls basketball has lost a great fan.

Maci morris is a very good player, I like her game, but IMO to be a 6'6 girl that can finish will put her way ahead of the competition. I don't think i have seen Boley but i am sure she is very good but hey height counts for a lot in basketball, and height with skill is hard to stop.

6'6 sophomore Nora Kiesler is the real deal and if she stays healthy will be ms kentucky basketball for her class. If she wants to, she will go to a big division I program. Second year coach Steve Smalls has done a good job with this program

??? I don't understand. Jason Frakes is a writer with the C/J and he was saying they did not do the rankings,it is a coaches' poll. Did i miss something there?

I was going to say the same thing. The coaches' poll is usually the only poll I really like, because most coaches have seen the good players in their region, and most other rankings, cats pause, rick bolus, etc, cannot possibly have seen every player in the region or state. But coaches can be wrong sometimes and there are always players that greatly improve over the summer and talented freshman who might not have been seen.

She is a very good player, i was quite surprised last year that she was an eighth grader. I would not be suprised if she is ms basketball her senior year. I don't blame her for going to Manual but she and others should sit out a year unless the home address changes. Probably hard to enforce in jefferson cty since you can apply to any high school in the city

The cats pause is not a coaches poll, the last couple of years the eighth was ranked by Mickey Patterson of the Oldham Era for the Cats Pause. Usually the coaches polls are in the major newspapers around November, if I remember correctly.

She committed on the spot.Epps joins friend and Marion County teammate Kyvin Goodin-Rogers as UK's first two commitments from the class of 2013. Goodin-Rogers, who also recently decommitted from Louisville, made her commitment to the Cats last week."I'm really excited," Epps said. Here are my thoughts on the top 10 teams in the eighth along with my top 10 player rankings. I am ranking Anderson County first only because they have the 2 best players in the region, IMO. But I would not be suprised if Walton goes to Diddle a third straight time. Some might say I have South too high(#4), but having watched the four returning seniors for years, I am pretty confident that they will surprise a lot of people. Marion County’s Makayla Epps commits to UK women Posted on August 27, 2012 by Steve Jones Marion County High School all-state point guard Makayla Epps, regarded as one of the nation’s best 2013 basketball prospects, committed to the University of Kentucky women’s team on Monday during an unofficial visit to the school, her high school and AAU coaches confirmed. She had been committed to the University of Louisville until reopening her recruitment last week. She was accompanied on the visit by her father, Anthony, a former point guard for the Wildcats, and received a scholarship offer from UK only on Monday, said David Tapley, who coached Epps on the Kentucky Premier club. Marion County coach Trent Milby also confirmed the decision. Epps, a 5-foot-11 point guard, is the second commitment in a week from a Marion County star who had formerly been a U of L pledge. Forward Kyvin Goodin-Rogers committed to UK coach Matthew Mitchell during an unofficial visit to Lexington last Tuesday. Epps is ranked as the nation’s No. 15 prospect and the top point guard by the All-Star Girls Report. She is the nation’s No. 37 senior, according to ESPN.com’s HoopGurlz rankings. Goodin-Rogers, a 6-foot-1 forward who’s ranked as a top-75 prospect nationally, committed to UK coach Matthew Mitchell after meeting with him in Lexington, Marion County coach Trent Milby said. Goodin-Rogers, whose father is former Louisville player Tick Rogers, committed to U of L after her sophomore year but withdrew that pledge in early June, Milby said. She then chose the Wildcats primarily over Middle Tennessee State and Ohio State, according to the coach. Milby said Goodin-Rogers, who averaged 13.4 points and 9.1 rebounds last season for the state runner-up, likes Kentucky’s style of play and educational opportunities. He said she is a combination small forward/power forward who can play in the post or score from long range. Goodin-Rogers was the first of two Marion County seniors to withdraw commitments to Louisville this summer. China Dow of Louisville, Ky., has verbally committed to Middle Tennessee, according to club team coach, David Tapley of Kentucky Premier. The 5-foot-9 guard also considered Indiana, Nebraska and Xavier before picking the Blue Raiders. "China has had a breakout summer for Kentucky Premier," Tapley said in an email. "(She's) a great defender and always gives 100-percent. She will fit great with coach (Rick) Insell?s style, especially how he has been able to develop scoring guards and China is certainly a scoring guard who can play multiple positions. I think coach Insell has pulled off one of the biggest gets of his career with China Dow." Dow, who is rated a three-star prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz, is the third player to commit to the Blue Raiders in the class. But it took no time at all for the 6-foot-1 wing from Owensboro, Ky., to make her intentions of winning that third championship with the Tennessee Flight known. "I think this one (is better) because I'm going to be a senior and this is my last game," said Greenwell, the No. 6 player in the Super 60 for the 2013 class. "It feels good to go out on top. It feels pretty awesome." With her Flight team down 17-14 to Boo Williams after trailing for the opening eight minutes of the game, Greenwell played up to her five-star rating, scoring the final 17 Flight points of the half. That burst of buckets included a 7-0 run that put the Flight up 26-22, a lead they never gave up en route to a 68-61 win. "Once I don't miss for a while I kind of feel like I will make everything I shoot," Greenwell said. "So this is just kind of one of those games." Greenwell scored a game-high 25 points, but she was far from the only star on the floor in a Flight uniform. Rising junior Alexa Middleton of Murfreesboro, Tenn., ran the point against intense pressure from the Boo Williams defense and scored 12 points, including four critical free throws in the final minute of the game. "I just knew I had to be more of a leader," Middleton said. A big part of that necessity was an ankle injury to teammate Tyisha Petty three weeks ago. Petty was in a protective boot and didn't play the entire tournament until coach Tom Insell inserted her into the game with 8.8 seconds to play and the outcome decided. Teammate Olivia Jones grabbed a rebound and gave her the ball to hold for the final buzzer, and Petty tossed the ball 20 feet into the air to celebrate. When Boo Williams jumped out to an early lead, it was the No. 2 player in the 2013 class, Kaela Davis of Buford, Ga., who scored five of the Flight's first six points to keep game within reach until the shooters got going. And then there is the team's unsung star, Nina Davis of Memphis, Tenn. The 6-1 forward had the chore of guarding 6-3 Jatarie White. With the Boo defense focusing on the big guns, White worked the glass and ran the baseline and finished with 14 points. But all that said, the afternoon was Greenwell's again, just as it was back in April when she won the Most Valuable Player honor at the Boo Williams Spring Invitational -- her first event back after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament. She was a member of all three Tennessee Flight teams that have won Nike Nationals, first in 2008 as seventh-grader, in 2010 as a sophomore where she was chosen the MVP, and, fittingly, once more as a senior. "I told Nike last night, if we win tomorrow, Rebecca Greenwell has to be the most celebrated player ever to play Nike basketball, hands down," Insell said. "There might be other great players that play Nike, but to do what she's done is unbelievable." So the sun sets on another summer circuit of travel basketball, and 2012 will go down as the year of Flight School. The U17 team won both Boo Williams and Nike Nationals, and the program's U15 team won the Nike Junior championship with a 62-54 win over Boo Williams U15.
