It is a really nice honor to be asked to play in this game but I am surprised to hear that Simpson and Hansel are playing. I am like everyone else and would like to see these guys play one more time at the high school level but there is way too much at stake for them. I am probably going to be unpopular on this post for saying this, but any scholarship kid is risking a huge set back in fall camp by subjecting themselves to the possibility of injury. I have been to quite a few track meets this spring, Simpson hasen't been running lately due to a hamstring issue. I know that scholarship kids have been playing in these games for years but I have never been a big fan of them playing. I doubt that their college coaches have any say but I don't think that they would be super excited. I hope all of the kids have fun, have a great game and come out healthy.

One quick addition to the screw in cleats... some of them have metal tips on the bottom of the plastic, make sure that you replace them with all plastic. Our kids say that the metal is slippery and they can't always get good footing.

OK, you win... He will be a safety at Illinois. By the way, Illinois was in town also visiting a few different kids at other schools.

There is always an exception to the rule. Bob Sanders runs a 4.36 and Troy Polamalu runs a 4.33, just a bit faster than your average safety. It's quite a stretch to compare a high shcool JR to an elite athlete that plays in the NFL. Again, I have nothing but good things to say about Austin Baldwin, he is a fine high school LB, but unfortunately he doesn't have the height or that kind of speed. From what I have been told by coaches and parents of kids that are getting recruited for these positions, major colleges are looking for someone that is 6'2" or taller and that can run, that's not to say that they always find them.

I'm not taking anything away from Baldwin, quite the opposite; I said that he is a very good high school LB. Running down a QB or RB is a far cry from covering sidline to sideline trying to keep up with a 4.3-4.5 WR. You speak with too much emotion and not enough knowledge of the game... It is entertaining though.

Don't think he is tall enough or fast enough to play saftey at the upper D1 level. Most schools are looking for kids that are 6'2"-6'4" and run somewhere in the sub 4.6 range to play that position. I hope he has multiple offers to play somewhere in college, he is a very good high shcool LB.

Sorry, I was incorrect... I don't think that this will be directly tied to the Ryle program. The statement that I posted above was old information, I think that it is a work in progress.

I agree 100%. DD as you know Coach Trosper and Warner (not sure about Boone and Cooper) went to at least one of the league meetings and tried to pitch this idea, unfortunately the majority of the league officials and coaches didn't want to have anything to do with it. So, they were given the opportunity to draft within their own district and are continuing to choose not to. I will say that some of the the coaches are doing their best to adhere to this philosophy but it is difficult when others aren't on board. I am pretty sure this is the reason that the push has begun. Not sure about cost and funding, however I have heard the idea of the Ryle program would likely help with this. I will try and find out more details today and post when I have some info.

Gotcha... I am quite sure that it is intended for the development of all kids living in a specific area, feeding into their respective high school. I would guess that each individual would have the option to stay in the BC Pee Wee system if they chose. We definitely don't need any more AAU teams, just kidding!

Not at all... it would be intended to be a feeder program into Ryle, just like most programs in NKY. The idea of drafting from a specific area has been introduced to the BC Pee Wee coaches and only a few were on board. The idea is, that Union kids would be play for one team that feeds Ryle, Hebron kids would play for a team that feeds Conner, etc. It is all about kids playing on the same team to become friends and learn to play together at a young age, not waiting until they are Freshman to get to know each other on the football field. It takes more time than you would think for the kids to gel when they have played against each other for a number of years within the same program. I definitely think that it is a huge positive.

Yep, in the second week and going really well from what I have heard. The guys that are playing baseball are concentrating strictly on baseball right now. The guys that are running track are also participating in spring ball.

Yea, you get one free season ticket if you lettered. As far as I know, this has been around for quite a while, I lettered in 1987 and it has been in place since then.

It is different for every person, depending on what you want to get out of the entire college football experience. I had the opportunity to play at a smaller school but chose to walk on at UK several years ago, I didn't see the field much but did enough to letter as a senior. Looking back, the things that I have taken away from that experience are invaluable. The K-Club connections, life time season tickets, bowl games, etc.... some of the things that you may or may not get at a smaller school. Yea, it is hard work and it is definitely not for everyone, you may not even realize the take aways until much later in life but I say that it was definitely worth it for me. If a kid thinks that they may have a chance to play at that level, I say go ahead and give it a shot; there is nothing like running out in front of 65,000 people on Saturdays in Lexington. You will never know unless you try it. I have never had one regret!

I am sure that Coach Warner tried to get in touch with you to see what you thought about scheduling Colerain, but couldn't find you due to you being extremely busy with your consulting gig in HS Football scheduling. I'm sure that you are held in high regard with your invaluable scheduling expertise across the river; we will leave it to our Head Coaches. The truth of the matter is... if Coach Warner sees value in scheduling these types of teams, he will do it. I'd be willing to bet, he brings more knowledge and experience to the game of football than you (of course... just my opinion). As for your statement, in an earlier post, of Ryle needing to be more CONSISTENTLY balanced offensively. Again sounds like just an opinion without any factual information to back it up. 2009 Passing: Hempel- 1894yds 18 TDs Total team- Roughly 2000yds Rushing: Elliott- 1558 24 TDs Team- Roughly 2750yds 2008 Stats are similar in percentage. Hummm...Seems kind of Balanced. My only regret is that it is not this year. I would love to see Ryle's "unbalanced offense" and Conner Hempel throw against Colerain's superior defense. Look... I know that Colerain is a Great Team with an outstanding history and I would never try to minimalize that. I just don't get why some feel such heart burn about the methods that coaches take to improve their programs.

Didn't go to the game but did listen on the web. Other than a couple of big runs and a bad pass interference call, sounds like SK controlled the last 3 quarters of the game. Sounds like St. X was lucky to make it out of this one with a win. Congrats to SK for a great season!

I don't think that it is the speed in skilled positions that is in question, there are quite a few teams with great speed at many skill positions. The difference is on the line and LBs and X has plenty of that. Any time the Big 10 plays an SEC school proves this point better than anything... Speed at all positions not just the skill guys.
