After being at two scrimmages, I would say that the Indians have a lot to improve on. They are young and do not have a lot of depth. Sometimes they take plays off. That said, there is a lot of talent, speed and size in the starting eleven. The players have a decision to make...where do they go from here?

Here is the true score. Dayton did not score tonight. The varsity final for 3 quarters was 20-0. The JV final for one quarter was 8-0. Quarters were 15 minutes with a running clock kept on the field.

There were a bunch of good teams over the years. I particularly remember 1977 when Moeller defeated Monsignor Farrell (NY) 30-0 at Nippert Stadium. It was total dominance of a championship team from another state at a time when those kind of games didn't happen very often.

Starting pitching is solid. Bats need to be more consistent. That lineup needs to scare opponents and I don't think that they are at that point yet.

Well, I was wrong about Burrow last week saying he would only throw one TD pass instead of two. But then again, he had both Chase and Higgins when I thought he wouldn't.

Holy Cross did very well in last night's scrimmage against Grant County, Goshen (OH) and Lloyd. The Indians are well ahead with their progress from this time last year. In my opinion, HC was clearly superior to Grant County and I felt that HC "held their own" against the other two schools. Of course, measurement with scoring was difficult in this format (sets of 10 plays). Two "games" were in progress at the same time on opposite ends of the field. Initially, after each play (good or bad), the line of scrimmage was always returned to the 30 yard line of the opponent. There was a rotation so that each school played each of the other teams (it was a long night). The night ended with Lloyd playing Goshen (OH) in one offensive series each over the full field starting at their own 30. HC played Grant County in the same way afterwards. The last play of the Indians' series (and the night) was a long TD pass play from Brian Ferguson to Xavier Thornberry. Final thoughts on the Indians. Lots of things to work on. They currently only have 26 players, but there is size, speed and talent. Depth? - well, we will have to cross our fingers on that one. I like some of the new players (for example, Charles Oglesby). The returning players are older, more mature and showing improvement. The emphasis in the weight room is showing. There has been a point to show poise and keep control of one's emotions while still having an edge (it's football after all)! Of course, we are all expecting big numbers from Max Hunt this year. He definitely did whatever he wanted last night on both sides of the ball with multiple TD catches at TE and knock downed passes at DE.

As most know, both of those teams are playing in temporary stadiums.

I think the Bengals with Burrow will score, but not twice. He won't be playing with his top receivers.
