If I had to guess about the onside kick, it was about keeping the ball away from Thomas Maddox. He returned the opening kick against St. Henry for a TD and Friday night against Bracken County, he did return one 24 yards. On that return he was in the clear along the sidelines for another TD, but his momentum caused him to go out of bounds. Another possibility is that maybe Bracken County "likes" to load up one side of the kick as something that do thinking the percentages are in their favor. In this case, however, kicking to the athletic Max Hunt was not a good idea. Huge turning point in the game.

Honestly, I thought it was a great game. HC didn't have many answers for the BC running game, but the Indians did make some key stops at critical points. I'll let the BC faithful defend their ranking situation.

Here is the stat summary for the game. TurboStats GameCast for Football: Holy Cross Indians_vs_Bracken County Polar Bears Well, I'm sorry if you weren't at Thomas More University for this one! It was a great game between the highly ranked 2A Polar Bears and the 1A Indians. For Bracken County, QB Greg Benedict (rushed 6 times for 73 yards and a TD, passed 6-9 for 56 yards and 2 TDs) and RB Daulton Tarter (15 carries for 143 yards and had 1 catch for a TD) led the way. I mention them because they both suffered injuries that caused them to leave the game in the second half. Backup QB Ryland Tucker did very well afterwards by rushing 7 times for 55 yards and a TD. For Holy Cross, QB Brian Ferguson relied on his legs tonight by rushing 18 times for 48 yards and 2 TDs. Many times, Ferguson escaped the pocket to make key first downs throughout the game. Max Hunt was the primary receiver with 4 catches for 51 yards. At the end of the half, Gabriel Romito made a 35 yard FG that just cleared the bar. The play of the game for the Indians occurred in the 3rd quarter just after Bracken County went ahead 18-17 after Benedict's rushing TD. The ensuring onside kick was picked up by Hunt who rumbled down the sideline for 52 yards for the return TD. A key Indians coaching decision was to go for two with RB Charles Oglesby taking it in. That made the score 25-18. This proved critical later in the 4th quarter after Tucker scored his TD from 36 yards. Kicker Witten Daughtery's attempt was blocked leaving the game at 25-24. The Indians had to play good defense near the end of the game by forcing a big turnover on downs to cap the victory. Next Friday night, Covington Holy Cross (2-0) travels across the river to play Clermont Northeastern while Bracken County (1-1) stays on the road to play Bishop Brossart.

I am in discussions with the other family that share my tickets. The Bengals offer 3 options to go from "convertible club" to "club". We have until 9/30 to decide. 1) Accept the deal. Pay the $3000/ticket (total $6000). 2) Do nothing. The Bengals select two seats somewhere else in the stadium that is OUTSIDE the club space. 3) Decline the club seats and select 2 seats somewhere else in the stadium myself (there are 4 options for that which are complicated to process). I guess there is that 4th option that the Bengals don't mention in the email. I do enjoy going to the games. It is a social event to take members of my family and enjoy each other's time together. #2 is a definite NO. I really don't see the benefit to #3 either. Sitting in plastic seats instead of cushion seats. If on the first level, everyone stands during most of the game. If on the upper level, there is a lot of walking and I'm not a fan of the view up there. I'm 65. I've been spoiled being where I am now for years in the convertible club.

I would be surprised if the Reds don't get swept tonight ending their "not being swept in a series" streak this year.

I got a wonderful "gift" from the Bengals this morning in the form of an email telling me that my "convertible club" tickets that I have had since the beginning of the stadium are now going to change over to be "club" seats. This is all due to the renovation. I have one month to decide if I want to participate or be cast over to another part of the stadium. Here is the lowdown for my section: 2025 (this year) - $1350/ticket 2026 (next year) - $6000/ticket Yikes.

Offensive Player Stats are in the pictures. Jacob Rieselman had a big day on both sides of the ball - 4 carries for 76 yards and 4 sacks for 42 yards, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Braylon Thornberry had 4 catches for 81 yards and 2 TDs. Charles Oglesby ran 8 times for 133 yards and a TD. QB Brian Ferguson ran 12 times for 87 yards and a TD and also went 7-11 for 106 yards and 3 TDs. Max Hunt had the other TD catch late in the first half. For St. Henry, QB Ryne Ravenscraft went 4-15 for 67 yards but was intercepted once and sacked 6 times. Covington Holy Cross (1-0) has their own opener against Bracken County next Friday night while St. Henry (0-1) travels to play Boone County.

As I mentioned in the previous Bengals game thread, I'd like to see more of the first string defense to get reps, but that probably won't happen for the same reason that the first string offense will be sitting too. Here are my questions: Is Jermaine Burton expendable now? Obviously, I'd rather keep Mitchell Tinsley who probably has less issues. Which tight ends do the Bengals keep? I'm not sure how the practice squad works. Can the Bengals store Ridder on that (or not since he is a veteran of a couple teams). I have no idea what Payton Thorne can do. What happens with RG? It sounded like Patrick starts but there has been a rotation after that. I did not hear Shemar Stewart mentioned last night. Was he shut down by the Washington line? Does he stay with the first string DL? The run defense is a mess. Safety is thin. Do we see the Bengals looking for castoffs from other teams?

I know the defense as a whole needs helps, but there were some bright spots among the backups and those trying to find a roster spot. I would like to see more of the "#1's" on defense next week to get reps, but that probably won't happen.

I hope to see him this year and have a chat with him when Holy Cross plays Holmes in football.
