District seeding game. Played at Champion Windows Field. Ryle scored 1 in the top of the 6th to go up 3-2. Cooper then scored 4 in the bottom of the 6th to go up 6-3. Ryle then scored 4 in the yop of the 7th to go up 7-6, which is how it ended. Connor Hempel had two big hits in the 6th and 7th innings for Ryle. Hempel doubled off the left field wall in the 6th and scored on Tyler O'Bryan's single to center. Hempel stopped at 3rd, but scampered home after the CF bobbled picking up the ball. In the 6th, Cooper scored 4 runs via 3 walks (1 IBB to Bjurquist), a couple wild pitches, and then a 2 run homer to left by AJ Collins. Ryle came back in the top of the 7th with a lead off line drive slightly to the right side of the SS that was dropped. Jake Steinle (who in the 2nd delivered a successful suicide squeeze) hit into a fielder's choice for the first out. A BB to Daniel Etscheid, a single down the RF line by Leiff Clarkson, and a bases loaded walk to Caleb Lonkard made it 6-4 Cooper with 1 out. Hempel then drilled a triple to the right center gap scoring 3 runs. O'Bryan then bunted into a DP. Matt Isler was solid for Ryle going 4 innings giving up 5 hits, 3 walks, and 4 K's. Nick Pomfrey pitched the final 3 innings for Ryle and got the W. Cooper's freshman pitcher, Hunter Dunn, did a great job. He went 6 innings giving up 4 hits, 3 walks, 1 HBP, and 6 K's. Cooper was led offensively by Collins, who was 2-4 with a HR and 3 RBI, and John Bjurquist who was 2-3 with a double, walk, and 3 runs scored.

The wind was blowing out strong to straight away center and both clubs took advantage. The Camels bunched together 4 runs in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th, and 4 in the 5th. The Camels hit the ball well today getting 6 doubles. The Raiders hit 4 doubles (Clarkson, Lonkard, Truitt, and Hempel) and had a 2 run homer by Junior catcher Evan Winchester. Teegarden got the win for the Camels, departing after 5 innings with a 9-8 lead. And that's how it ended with Jenkins doing a fine job picking up the save with two scoreless innings. Junior Mark Downs started for Ryle going 3 and 1/3 inns. Junior Brian Ernst pitched the next 2/3 of an inning. Junior Mitch Lawson pitched the next two innings. Senior Matt Isler pitched the 7th.

Opening Day for Ryle. Ryle scored 3 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th for the win. Ryle had two out and no one on base before scoring 3 in the bottom of the 7th. Junior Leiff Clarkson had two hits while driving in 2 runs in the 6th and another one in the 7th for Ryle. Senior Caleb Lonkard had 2 hits, 2 stolen bases, and scored 3 times including the game ending run. Lonkard scored from second on the game ending play. The final at bat was Clarkson's single up the middle with the bases full that was fielded behind the base and thrown to 2nd but not in time to force Junior Daniel Etscheid. Lonkard kept running and scored the game winner. Senior Matt isler pitched the first 3 inninngs. Senior Jake Steinle pitched the next 2. Junior Bryan Comora pitched the final 2 innings earning the win. NCC's starting pitcher (# 12) pitched well. He was lifted after walking the first two batters in the 5th inning. Their 2nd pitcher (# 21) looked good also but struggled some with control.

Way to go, Caleb! Exiting player to watch with explosive speed and great baseball instincts. Natural team leader. NKU is getting a heckuva player. Congrats to Mom and Dad (and Grandma too!).

James Hoskins - Ryle (Pikeville College). Sounds like Ronald Cotton will be going to Transylvania or Miami University.

Sorry about the mix-up. Always have trouble telling those two big left handers apart.

Good game played by the two NKY teams at St. Henry. Nathan Snyder went 6 1/3 inns - baffling the Colonels with his curveball and change of speeds. Zack Larimore came in relief and got the save. Larimore threw smoke and will be interesting to see next year in his senior year. Back from Region tournament play, Adam Warning and Tyler Sexton had big games for the Chiefs. Warning had a couple hits and three very nice plays out in left field. Tyler Sexton also had a couple key hits - an RBI single in first inning and a HR to left field in the 6th. Brett Stansberry pitched the first 4 inns for the Colonels. He pitched very well and kept the Chiefs off balance with his change of speeds. Nick Knoebel came in for the Colonels to pitch the last 3 inns - doing a good job while giving up only 1 run.

ERA is normally a good measure to use. You would think all teams would make a good faith effort to distinguish earned vs. unearned runs for their pitchers. Connor doesn't appear to distinguish between earned and unearned runs. All their pitcher's runs this year show as earned. Since we're talking about POY here, that wouldn't have an impact on Pugh since he hasn't pitched much this year. But for West, it doesn't help. He's pitched a fair amount of innings this year for Conner with a 3.50 ERA and a .400 BA.

Krumps would be crazy not to pitch Warning. Warning's been their best pitcher this year and is on a roll. You lose this game with Warning in RF and no longer is Krumps considered as one of the top two managers in NKY. Not that CCH can't win with several of their other pitchers, it's just that Warning gives them the best chance. Winning the district is great, but second place ain't that bad. Sometimes the district winner draws a tougher first round Region opponent than the second place district team.

I worry about that nice lady when she's in the concessions booth and hot foul balls come flying by the concession stand window. I suppose a few shots have gone through the opening through the years.

Bone Fish Grill - bone head play of the game.... that brought me a chuckle. Funny, yet informative.

On the play that Hoskins did a 180 and dove back and tagged home before Gill could score, it wasn't a bunt - it was one of those swinging bunts that die in front of home plate. Bases were loaded which made diving and tagging the plate necessary before Gill reached it. It was a good instinct play. On the bunt attempt with the runner on second, no outs, and down five - if I'm thinking about the right play - it did look like the batter was trying to sacrifice - I thought he was - but he might have been bunting on his own for a hit - particularly since he didn't try bunting again during the rest of that at bat.

Played at Lexington Lafayette HS. Run rule after 5 inninngs. Lafayette played a fine game and Ryle certainly didn't. Good thing about baseball is there's usually a game tomorrow - in fact Ryle has two down in Lexington. Better luck tomorrow boys!

Boone deserved to the win tonight. They played very well. They hit Ryle's starter Donovan hard. Deno pitched well for the Rebels and got the win. Laumann pitched a nice couple innings to close it out.

I haven't looked at many teams' web sites, but I'm impressed how Ryle's site has been improved this year. Ryle switched over to the eteamz format this year. The site is updated almost daily and chock-full-of info. Nice job webmaster! :thumb: http://www.eteamz.com/ryleraidersbaseball/

Hasn't Logan been playing 3B recently? I know he did against Dixie. Logan's played third a few times this year, but the majority of the time he's been at 2B. Last year he was a fixture at 2B. Good to see players get familiar with another position - just in case something happens and you need to move personnel around.

If that is the case I am sorry but with no PA announcer, all I can do is guess who is playing where. I know Hempel usually plays third and Logan usually plays second! Please, no need to apologize - you're the best. :thumb: 9 out 10 games you would see Conner and Logan in those positions.

#8 Third Basemen Hempel: While he had only one hit in the game, he did reach base all three times and scored two runs. He had two SB's and had three assists. You just can't afford to put speed on the base paths two times with no outs! TOG - Conner Hempel did indeed steal two bases tonight, but I believe he was the DH tonight. If I'm not mistaken, Logan Carney played 3rd base and Caleb Lonkard was at 2nd base. For Ryle, it was good to see the junior Matt Gorband have another very solid performance going the distance for the W.:jump:

Tyler O'Bryan started and got the win for the Raiders. It was the 3rd and final game for the Raiders in the weekend tournament held at West Jessamine's High School.

Franklin County jumped to 1-0 lead in second inning. Then, Ryle's James Hoskins belted a bases clearing double over the center fielder's head in the 3rd inning and the Raiders never looked back in their first game of the afternoon. Logan Carney made several nice plays at second base to lead the Raiders on defense. Kyle Donovan got the win for Ryle.

The Raiders played the Colts from Nicholasville under the lights. The Colts have a tremendous team. Daisuke Imai pitched for the Raiders. Dice's undoing was 4 HBP's and a couple errors on the mound. Other than that, Dice pitched a very good game. The Raiders only managed a couple of hits against the West Jessamine pitcher (I think his number was # 29) - who was outstanding on the mound.

Tight game, 2-1 Ryle, until Ryle broke it open in the bottom of the 6th with 9 runs. It's a wonder what a tarp can do. Even with the heavy rains last night, Ryle's field was in great shape - although the outfield was very soggy.

I believe they have Jake Cain? NewCath lost a lot of seniors last year and that will hurt them this year.

Jake Samad is a great competitor and has a great pitcher's mentality. I think Jake or Brenon Russell will emerge as Connor's ace, with the other close behind. Brenon's summer season, although not overly extensive, was none the less very impresssive.

NewCath has a heck of a pitcher in senior Shawn Meyer. He will be one of the top pitchers in the 9th this year.
