I had a pretty good angle on this play. The player caught the ball and took 1 maybe 2 steps before hitting the fence. It was the momentum that carried him into the fence. The ball would have been short or hit the bottom of the fence.

This should have been one of the most talked about games and it got two, now three short comments? Wish I could have seen this game. I knew that Highlands would keep everyones runs down, but surprised that they are scoring as many runs as they are. Going to be a tough team to beat.

Nick Jackman pitched 6 1/3 for Beechwood with Noah Huseman closing it out and collecting the win. Great pitching by both teams.... early season defense let the pitchers down.

Honestly, I would have to think Highlands would be in the top 10 in the state... mainly due to it's strong pitching. Then I believe there is a bit of a drop-off. Cov Cath will come in barely in the top 25 and Beechwood around 30-35.....my guess.

Since today is the official beginning of baseball tryouts/season, I thought I would take a stab at ranking (IMHO) the 9th region. Last year I had Beechwood 1 and Highlands 2 and they played each other in the championship.... and flipped the script on me. 1. Highlands (hitting will be the question mark for this team. The have the pitching for sure) 2. Cov Cath (Solid upperclass and talented younger players) 3. Beechwood (Young! Could be a 3.... could be an 8. coming off JV Championship) 4. Ryle (lost a lot of seniors, but solid kids move up) 5. Conner 6. Cooper 7. Boone Co 8. Dixie 9. NCC 10. St Henry

I wouldn't put to much thought into the rankings. The important thing is that they record their times and speeds and have a video on them. I'm not sure about all of the age groups, but the one particular one that I watch... the rankings are apparently done by a team coach in that age group. Nearly all of his players are in the top 20. lol. It's not hard to guess which team does the rankings and runs most of the showcases.... go to a showcase and look at what hat everyone is wearing. It's a useful program but diffidently flawed.

Wagner has transferred back to Walton Verona. Big loss for Beechwood.

We certainly know this. Beechwood has been the favorite or one of the favorites for the last 3 or 4 years and we made it out of the first round of the regional s....once. And, never won a regional... in that timeframe. Getting hot at the right time is key. Highlands has had the formula the last couple years.

Watched him play a lot this fall. Solid player.

Fury upgraded tremdously with the Highlands kids. Can't wait to see them play. McGinness and Walters are the KBC kids and Odom and Luke Rader (Conner) are the CBC players. Not sure if any other NKY players are playing with them.

Beechwood has been very rich in pitchers in the last few years, so no, he hasn't pitched much for school. They graduated all but Huseman from the starting varsity staff. It would not surprise me to see the catchers pitching more this year. Doverspike, Burch and Clay are very capable pitchers.

Everyone knows Highlands is a Baseball and Fastpitch school.

...just kicking the giant while he is down. I do like Cov Cath in this game though. To much offense. It will be a very high scoring game due to weaker than usual defenses.
