They have seen it several times this year and have been unsettled by it everytime. They struggled with Zone against beechwood and at times against st henry and tonight vs the school from Ga. Not sure but Bowman may have played some zone too!

It was 42 all in at the end of the thrid.

Trae Golden lead Mceachern with 23 points and iced the game with 6 free throws down the stretch. Pittman lead Holmes with 17, JJ had 12, Ric had 9, Avery 5, Slusher 4, and Rice had 3 Holmes was up 29-28 at half, Mceachern threw a 2-3 zone on in the second half and Holmes couldn't deal with it.

I wonder how the bracket is set up? Is there a chance we could see Holmes vs Bryan Station in the finals?

Should be a heck of a tournament... To bad I can't make it down, but I will have an eye on it. Is there any video/audio of the games I can pick up on a CPU while I am at work?

Avery played a solid game, he finished with 8 off the bench and offensively that was his best output of the season, he played strong, slashed, found open men, and converted when he had the chance. I was not very impressed with Slusher at all, haven't been all season Guard play, inside play, free throws, you can blame whatever you want, the bottom line is a Newport team who averaged upwards of 80 points, dropped 100 on SCPA, and beat a pretty good Bryan Station squad, and 2 other 30+ point wins, were held to just 41 points by a very good Holmes team. A team that in 4 of 5 games this year has held opponets under 42 points. It could be they are that good defensively, it could be that they are lucky, they get away with goaltends, or they oppositions struggle from the line, but bottom line it happens. They clamp down on folks and that is how they win games, not by scoring 70 or 80 (which they are probably capable of).

Avery coming off the bench tonight was very impressive, similar to Brandon Housely last year and they got solid minutes at the guard positions from Hayes and Herndon tonight. Definately more impressed with that group than I have been all season. As far as Pittman goes, when Holmes was in there half court he constantly had position and was working hard on the block, but for the first 14 minutes of the first half Holmes was living on the outside and not making shots, when they got it in to him he had is way in the final 2 minutes. I thought they were going to continue doing that in the second half, instead they got out and ran with the ball (which is what I have been calling for all year) and they looked really impressive, JJ and Rico really pushed the tempo, Avery did a lot of slashing and Eli cleaned everything up. Rice scoring wise struggle this evening but he played a great game defensively and had a couple nice putbacks himself as well. All in all from the first half to the second, Holmes looked like 2 different teams.

Holmes played in the half court and slowed the game down much of the first half and was up 23-21 at halftime. In the second half they really opened it up and got up and down the court and played at a much more uptempo pace and it really paid off, they outscored Newport 36-20 that half and really took control of the game early on in that half with an 8-0 run that put them up 10.

J Johnson 15, Pittman 13, R Johnson 10, Rice 8, Avery 8, Hayes 3, Slusher 2 for Holmes, not sure about Newport. Pittman and J Johnson owed the glass and Pittman had 5 or 6 blocks as well

I think Holmes should win this one by 10-15.... Newport has been rather impressive this season though...

Why would he not be? Do you even know the basis on why he wasn't available vs St Henry? If it is a coaches decision that he didn't play against St Henry and he did vs Memphis Central and they got 2 wins out of the deal then I think that is a smart coach. He sent his message to the kid (in all likely hood who just lacked effort in practice or had a bad attitude towards his coaches and peers) and didn't jeapordize his teams chances to win.

What did Pittman finish with? As I said before he had to be available for them to win tonight.

Probably found his way to the dog house, he is known to do that once of twice a year. Henley can afford to sit him against St. Henry, but not against this team, I would expect to see him play.

I have heard this team resembles Holmes in a lot of ways. It should be interesting but my loyalty to Kentucky and to the Bulldogs makes me say Holmes will win a close one. Anyone know if Elijah will play in this one? If not Holmes may get beat up on inside by the 6'7 kid, and it will also hurt the offensive production. Eli has worked on his post game this summer, he still is a streaky jumpshooter and he is passing the ball well this year from the perimeter and on the block out of double teams. Him not playing would certainly make me think the Dawgs could be out matched.

I was looking for a little more of a lopsided score here, but either way a 22 point win is a nice victory.
