Ballard could shoot the rock last year too. Sounds like a great game, all the stars from Scott Co. came out to play but they had nothing on the bench, and getting out on shooters seems to have been an issue

Mayfield actually got some time at the point last year, and he is just young and sometimes he plays to fast for himself, he was called for a couple of travels tonight that were just mental errors. He is a hawk defensively however. McClendon, only got about 3 minutes of PT tonight and he is an outside shooting specialist. The other guys (Herndon and Hayes) played some, but when they were in the game Rico was still on the ball.

Beechwood is definately going to be a solid team again this season, if tonight says anything. I think however a big reason Rico had 6 points tonight has alot to do with Henley having him run the point. He is more of a slasher, that wants to come off of screens to set his shots up. He can go off the dribble as well but I think the role that he played tonight, he was looking to distribute more than get his own shot. If Henley keeps him as his primary ball handler he is going to have to pressure more defensively open it up and let this team run. Rico did not at all look comfortable trying to run a motion offense tonight, he was not looking to score, this team wins games when that kid scores. Either Holmes needs to find another point guard or they need to try to run alot more. It was obvious that Riley's court awareness and leadership as a point guard was missed. Rico was getting frustrated with other players, leading to small arguements on the court, the most obvious was with his brother in the second quarter. Lot of chemistry things to work on, I don't think this team has an identity yet, they miss the seniors that left last year and that is obvious.

Honestly I have no clue. I heard some grumblings in the stands about football players and things like that, but I think it was more fans just refering to Beechwoods banners hanging all over the gym, not about the actual players on the floor. I don't know much about Beechwood basketball so I wasn't really aware that they may or may not have been missing some guys.

Pittman and JJ both had 12 and were the only double figure scorers for Holmes, K.Rice/Arnold had 9 and Rico had 6. Slusher and Hayes added 5, both knoced down big 3 pointers during the course of the game, D.Avery had just 2 points in his debut as a Bulldog. Herndon and Mayfield also both added a bucket and finished with 2 points

Beechwoods offense was very effective early slowing Holmes down, they set some nice back screens and Holmes struggled to communicate what was going on, leading to a lot of easy lay-ups. Holmes looked very sluggish on defense early, they were not switching off of screens or anything. Beechwood was having there way in there half court sets. Holmes did dominate the glass and force a few turnovers as the game progressed but they had to build up that intensity because it was not there when the game started. Elijah also had 3 or 4 really big blocks (one of which was easily an uncalled goaltending, but it was really impressive how high he got) The refs swallowed there whistle alot tonight and there were not very many calls made, and the calls that were made were inconsistant the entire game. I don't think one team had an advantage over the other but it was terrible both ways.

I was at the game. It was a very sloppy first half by both teams, Holmes jumped up 6 to 0 to start it off and it looked like they would run Beechwood out of the gym. Beechwood called a TO and got regrouped and switched to a zone D and holmes struggled getting to the basket with the zone and were reluctant to try to shoot them out of the zone. Beechwood closed the gap and closed out the first period on a 10-5 run and Holmes led 11-10 at the end of the 1st. It was more of the same from Beechwood in the second quarter and as they opened up a 4 point lead midway through the quarter. Holmes then got a couple big baskets from Elijah in the post and some easy looks for JJ as well once they started breaking down the zone. Beechwood surrendered there lead, went back to a man to man defense and Holmes took a 24-23 lead into the half. When the teams took the court for the second half Beechwood struck first and went up 25-24 but after 2 free throws from JJ to make the score 26-25 Holmes never gave the lead back up. To pull away they got a couple of big outside shots by Willie Slusher and Kevon Arnold. Holmes was up 11 at the end of the third. The fourth quarter was played pretty even for the most part until about 4 minutes left when Rico got a big bucket off of a nice dribble drive, then getting a steal that lead to an really nice ally-oop dunk for Elijah that pushed the lead up to 16. After some free throws and a couple baskets from Beechwood, Holmes was up 18 as the clock winded down and Beechwood got a 3 out of the corner as time was running out to make the final score 55-40.

Congrats to the Bulldogs on a great season, 9-3 is nothing to hang your head about. Great turn around and coach Lickertt has put this team in a position to sustain some success in the 4a district.

In deed it was, Dixie was making a late push, Holmes appeared to be tired and Dixie was right back in the game and then Antwan struck big on a huge kickoff. It may have been the first one that season without a flag down too lol.

I am a Holmes fan in this one but I honestly haven't seen Dixie play. From a Holmes aspect though, they need to get a lead and play from infront rather than behind. They have an excellent spread rushing attack that the backs and QB are really good at finding and hitting the creases. If they get behind and have to toss the ball around I think they could be in trouble. The way they got to 6-0 was by getting ahead of there opponets and allowing the QB and Oden to run the football. I have yet to see them play from a deficit this season and I think if they get down 14 or so it will be very hard for them to dig out of it. Hopefully they can score early and there defense is flying around and they can take it. 7-0 is unheard of at Holmes in my time on this earth and I would love to see it.

Last year I know he was coaching basketball at Calvary Christian

1999 and 2000 with coach V and 2001 with Farley were all extremely talented and all won 8 or 9 games but all of those teams also lost in the second round of the playoffs. 2001 was probably the best team of the bunch with the 2000 team sporting the best record of them all but also suffering the most embarrassing lost in an 81-0 shutout at home to Highlands!

So they have ensured there first non losing regular season since 2001, great job Dawgs!

That was the 01 season, but the graduating class of 02... And we beat SK then Lost to Campbell Co. Boone was like week 5 or 6

Holmes 3-0 for the first time since 1999 if my memory holds correct... In 01, they lost to Campbell Co in week 2, in 2000 they opened up with a loss to Simon Kenton, and in any year after those to they just never had it going to be 3-0. I know in 1999 they started off 6-0. Congrats, go Bulldogs!

Those were the days lol... Hope the dogs can turn the fortunes around and at least re-capture some of the hope and success of the teams from 99-01
