Agree! :thumb: Unfortunatley only one player is honored. But, I'm sure we all can agree where Maile also had a great season. My personal choice, but he just didn't have the d-1 hype over the last 3 years would have been Ryan Darner. From what I've read in all of TOG'S recaps is he was the go to guy and got the needed hits in the big games.

Congrats Ryan! Great school to play baseball. Close to home too!

Sainola was very impressive. His performance today was the best I've seen this year from any pitcher. The Flames are a very good team and he handled them very well.

Bluegrass 4 Flames 0. Bluegrass has some of the best talent in NK on this team with Rob Sanders ( Head Coach) Robbie Sumpter (coach for the other 18 yr olds) also has a nice team this year. Last years Bluegrass 18 yr old team was 1 win away from setting a new club record in wins. This should be a fun summer. NK Baseball with all teams seem to be on the rise.

I would agree with this statement. What was it? 12 out of the top 15 have lost? Now that's a huge number. IMO I think the polls are set much to early (BUT UNDERSTAND YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE), But the problem is it seems like it takes an act of congress to have new teams move in from around the state. Maybe this was just a coincidence it turned out this way. Now, I'm not knocking any school, I'm sure these were all good teams. IMO Baseball polls are much harder to pick than a football or basketball poll. I'm just glad I can give an opinion and not have to do it!

Thanks for the explanation. I too was surprised Coach Myerhoff did not argue the call. But he did not have a very goos angle from the coaches box. IMO obstruction could have been called on this play based on your explanation.

IMO the plate was blocked prior to ball getting there. I was on the third base side and had a good side view of the play. I was not as close as the umpire but pretty sure I could see the ball wasnt quite there yet! I'm not real sure on the official ruling what the catcher can and cannot do? But the runner from what I could see didn't appear to reach home plate and was blocked out all together. Someone will have to tell me what the ruling is on how soon you can block the runner from plate if there is a ruling at all without the ball?

I stayed for the entire game, but paid for it this morning! Not quite as young as I used to be.... Anyway, it looked like Conner was in control for the greater part of the game. Unfortunatly, IMO they left a pitcher in one maybe two batters to many. Now, I did see the pitch where Coach Arlinghaus thought the batter could have been rung up on strikes, But I was on the 3rd base side and did not have a good view, so unable to comment. For tonights game. My only prediction is the Colonels will win but feel Beechwood will hit the ball some. I just dont think the Beechies have enough pitching left to stop CCH from scoring.

I would say NCC is the favorite going into the contest. But..it's baseball and anything can happen! I don't think Newport will just lay down for them.. The key for Newport to stay in this game is to avoid errors early in the game and not let 1 or two hits drive in runs. NCC will hit the ball! I pick NCC but dont think for a minute that Newport couldn't pull off the win.

IMO "Not to bash but seriously"?? You just said the kid was a whiner and he doesn't work hard? No offense because you do have an opinion. But, have you watched this kid practice day in day out to determine he is not a hard worker? How many times have you seen him pitch this year? Personally, I've watched him pitch in one game vs Lafayette. He pitched pretty good against a good varsity team and had the game won if it had not been for an infeild error in the final inning before darkeness. Also, so many other factors go into this and most of them are based on opinions. But Boone did win the JV tournament and he piched well. IMO it appears the comments about being a whiner and not a hard worker appeared to be personal and just a bit hard on him . IMO your opinion is yours but could have been better recieved had it not appeared to be a personal shot at him.

IMO St Henry may be the most improved team from where they started and how they are finishing. Hammond is avery good pitcher, but the outcome did not surpirise me. Cooper High is another school full of young talent who imo will be tough next year. Conrats to St. Henry on a good win.

I stand corrected! I thought a 10-2 opinion on the score would be way off? NCC did come out of the gate strong. Pitching for NCC was much better. Nice win for the Breds.

A lack of respect may not have been the best choice of words:isurrender:. We agree that it's our opinions. I dont have a dog in this fight, however still believe 10-2 is a bit high. I agree with you where NCC in the past has come out strong in tournament play but feel Bellevue has a good enough team to create some problems and they have been playing well too. I'd like to see a close game where both teams shine and the loser knows he left nothing on the table. Both Coaches are freinds of mine so having either one lose is a dissapointment.

Wow! 10-2. I think I would respect Bellevue a little more than that! It's the district and I wouldn't go into this game thinking its going to be a cake walk. I don't have a kid on either team nor in there district. Wow! 10-2? We will see.

I know there was no disrespect intended..but His name is Coach Bob Chalfant. The French side of his family may spell it CHAFONTE! But all joking aside its Chalfant. Bob does a great job and works very hard for the program. couldn't have happened to a better guy.

Five innings.

Yes. Boone was scorless and was losing 1-0 going into the 6th inning. Beechwoods 1st run came on a dropped ball on an obvious out at home plate. But thats baseball. Smith pitched well out of jams in a ew innings and Boones poor base running didn't help. My understanding form the Team Dr. was that Smith would be ok. Of course , I don't know if X rays were done after the game to prove different? I hope the young man is ok. He is a fantastic pitcher. Boone did score in the 6th inning and did not bat in the 7th. I plan on calling Coach Meyerhoff today for an update.

Boone 5 Beechwood 3. Very Good game by both teams. Boone was knocking on the door most of the night. AJ Smith pitched well. Bertke pitched the 6th and gave up a lead off triple to Daniel Lokesak. Breenan Carroll knocked him in with a well hit ball down the line. Later in the Inning Luke Sciamanna hit a bomb to the fence in Left Center and two more runs scored. In the Seventh Boone gave up two walks, Two outs later Beechwood hit grounder through the legs of Boones second baseman and two runs scored. Jackson Lauman came in relief and walked a batter the got a force to second to end the game, Congrats to Logan Faehr who pitched a one hitter tonight.

He is the best hitter in NK right now! His stats are up there and his ability to come through in the clutch is what sets him apart. As far as being a topic of conversation, he is! My son plays on another NK team and everywhere we have gone in the past month I personally have brought his name up and had copies of the Newpapers stats to leave behind. All college coaches ask about who else is a out there? In his case I'm quite confident he will land somewhere. Finding that fit is always a challenge for the coaches and the student/athlete. I can appreciate the effort TOG has put into promoting Ryan and it's well deserved. Sometimes you have to wonder how coaches evaluate kids? I have not been able to see him on the feild in game situations, but his bat alone should be getting him some looks. I still feel he is going to be at the next level. I wish him the best as I'm sure its frustrating at times.

Richard Skinner is as professional as they come. He knows sports in NK inside and out! Congrats to the Hammonds. What a great season he is having and A great kid on top of that. Daniel is still a student of the game and works hard each day to get better. He loves to compete! IMO he is in the top 4 pitchers here in NK.

I totally agree Clyde. Boone coach was one word from being tossed! Anyway, the kids suffered on that call. Sorry to pull anyone off track. Just thought I'd throw that one in there! I'm sure both teams last night were disappointed. That's almost like a heavyweight fight ending in a tie with both boxers bloodied up in there corners!
