  1. I've witnessed an umpire award a runner third base on a ground rule double this year. Boone County played Franklin County a few weeks ago. A ball was hit in the gap and rolled under the fence. Boones outfeilder raised his hands once he saw the ball on the other side by 10 feet. The base umpire signaled a ground rule double. The Franklin County coach gets into a conversation with home plate ump who then awards the hitter a triple! His explanation was by the time the outfeilder raised his hands the runners had passed second base??? This has nothing to do with the rule nor in the event it was true how could the umpire determine when the ball went under the fence as opposed to when the feilder finally raised his arms? Yes sir. He was given a ground rule triple. Both runs scored. My comments are more to address how many umpires do not know the rules of baseball this year. To many mistakes. Anyway, the $5 bucks to get in would not be hard to ytake if I knew $2.00 was going to a light fund. Temporary fencing is not safe anyway. Also, seems to have been a great game to watch to end in a tie. What a bus ride home that must have been.
  2. Hemple- solid player, great kid, great family!
  3. Holmes served up 3 Home runs to Luke Sciamanna, Brennan Carroll and a Grand Slam to Sophomore Jackson Lauman. Boone took a 2nd inning lead with Sciamanna's Blast to Center feild. Credit should be given to Holmes Pitcher. He just didn't have any help offensively. Doug Teegarden pitched a gem for Boone giving up one hit in the third inning. The real damage was done in the sixth inning when Boone extened the lead with the Grand Slam. Although it was a win for Boone. The hitters from both teams were at a terrible disadvantage dealing with a strike zone which changed from pitch to pitch and batter to batter. Enough said, I think you can get the pitcher on this one.
  4. Doug Teegarten for Boone is a Freshman pitcher/Short Stop. He pitches at the varsity level and I believe he has 4 wins if not more this year. He is a legitimate player to watch.
  5. Doesn't seem like its set up to well when two of the top teams have to square off in the first round???
  6. That's fair. I would agree with that statement. But I would rather see them get tossed over an umpire call than and altercation between each other if that's the case. Its a two game suspension plus it just looks bad . Umpires for the most part this year have been very good. It's not the judgement calls that i've have questioned this year. It's the baseball rules that have been missed. Again, overall no complaints on calls. Heck, I d' hate that job. But if I were doing it, the one thing I would know for sure would be the basic rules.
  7. I was not at the game. But, if you've watched enough baseball to see both coaches tossed then it wasn't just one thing. Coaches usually get tossed because of events which happened during the game leading up to the point where they have just flat out had enough. Sometimes (this happens a bunch lately) certain umpiring crews (not all) just dont have thier act together. I would be interested in hearing the story on this one. Sounds like it had to have been a close game with many questionable calls! Just guessing on that!
  8. I would agree where it would appear they are on the downside of a good season at this point. However, I know these kids and I don't think they are playing to there full potential quite yet! The season still has some life in it and All Ryle needs to do is get to the Regionals. By then maybe the hitting bugs will be worked out. I'm sure Cooperstown is fit to be tied watching but he also knows what they can do! The question is..will they? I mean look at them position wise, they are a very solid team. Hope they can turn it around.
  9. I would agree with your picks at this point of the season without question. What are your thoughts on other players at other positions?
  10. Not sure who started? A lefty! Koors came in relief in the 5th inning. Did a nice job. Boone scored 3 more on him but a couple Dixie errors helped the cause.
  11. The great teams find a way to win when they are having an off night. Scenerios of "ifs" can always be said. And I like them because it brings out the real turning points of games played. Bottom line the Blue Colonels still won and credit to Holmes for making it a game! TOGS reviews are pretty acurate and fair. But for the Good comments .. You have to wait till after Dinner!!
  12. A win is a win even if it's ugly. 14 hits by the Colonels is not to shabby either. I would agree also on your comments on the feild conditions. I believe if you stand behind home plate and look down the left feild you will see the let feilder from the knees up!!
  13. Boone County 10 Dixie 5. Shannon Murphy recorded his first win of the season for the Rebels going 4 innings before being replaced by Jordan Bryant. Logan Faehr closed the game out for the Rebels in the win. Boone's bats came alive in the second inning with a bases loaded Triple By Daniel Lokesak. Brennan Carroll had a doudle off the Center Feild wall in the same inning as the Rebels batted around. Dixie settled in a after that leaving several Rebels stranded on base. The Colonels scored in the Bottom of the Third when Booone allowed 5 walks in One inning. Nice win for the Rebels as they contInue to put runs on the scoreboard. Dixie scored thre more times in the bottom of the seventh to close it out 10-5. Good Luck to the Dixie Colonels they have a very Good team.
  14. Not much to say on this one. Boone hit the ball hard but right at people. Campbell did a nice job defensively. Boone jumped out 3-0 witha Luke Sciamanna single scoring two in the 3rd. Boone scored a couple more in 4th and 5th but left two many base runners stranded. Boone was up 5-1 with 2 outs in the 7th when the meltdown occurred. Doug Teegarten did a nice job getting the outs he needed but a few infeild errors on routine plays cost them dearly where they could have closed out the game 5-1. Add two nice hits by Campbell County and it was tied up. Boone rallied in the seventh with a nice bunt with 1 out and a man on third to end the game. No big heros in this game. A caongrats to Tyler Deno who pitched 5 innings of good baseball but did not get the win. Jordan Bryant threw one pitch for the Victory! Isn't baseball great! Good Luck to the Camels who never gave up on the game. They played very well to stay in it.
  15. I've heard nothing bit good things about him. Anyone can have a bad day. It's too bad it was against the top ranked team in NKY because CCH will take advantage of any miscue and turn it into runs. I know this kid and I'm sure he will pick himself up and be ready to play today.
  16. You can't go wrong going to see him play! He's the real deal. Watch him close at the plate his eyes are focused on every pitch. A pure hitter, also Zach Isler is one to watch as well. He can power it out at Cov Cath just as well and plays a heck of a first base. As for Luke Maile a belt high fastball anywhere on the plate is usually history! I'll take the Colonels in this one.
  17. Good call! Playing conditions would have been horrible. Cold too!
  18. I agree Coop! Relievers can't put people on base. Period! Bryant seems to be getting more confidence as the season progresses and Boone willl need it if they intend to make a serious run. Please stop raining!
  19. Daniel Lokesak's Nike time was taken last summer. You are correct about the time. However, what this time (and this is not the only time Lokesak was timed) does not tell you is.. on this day it was raining and all the boys were timed on the wet grass. From what I remember he was also in Tennis shoes? They only ran one time! I'm sure you would agree there are OTHER times than just Nike! At this point his times are out to the schools that are important including many D-1 schools who are not disputing his speed. We wish him the best as he is deciding on the best college fit for him academically and where he can get some playing time.
  20. Congrats Coach Roesel! 300! Nice program you've built out there.
  21. I've seen both teams play this year. Although both teams have earned the respect to be in the finals of the all "A" . IMO if Bellevue has the right pitching match up to hold HC down they will win. Hunter Jones is the man! He plays an outstanding shortstop and is pretty much a shoe in to get on base with his hitting. Thomas Barrett is also a threat at the plate. It's going to come down to who Bellevue pitches? But the Tigers should win this game.
