Excellent recomendations Cades cove is the highlight of my trip whenever I go. I would spend a whole day there. Go during the day to hike all the trails and tour the farmhouses, bulidings, mill, etc then loop back through just before or near dusk to see all the wildlife that comes out.

For the Camels IMO it would be have to be Herschel Turner still to my knowledge the only Camel to play in the NFL.

Rice would not be a bad choice at all, but IMO the best choice would be Scott Turner from HHS. He played his highschool ball for the Wildcats and has been very instrumental in churning out great O-lines year after year at Highlands. He has the experience, the knowledge and would be a wonderful role model for the young men at Newport High School! I am just not so sure he would be interested in the job.

The Ft. Thomas version of the Dirty Bird

Very talented and athletic group of linemen who are very well coached. HHS O-line is always impressive and with 3 starters returning next year they will once again be a force. I heard that during the JC playoff game that Tony G came off the field and said to Dale, "I have all freaking day to throw the ball!" Pretty amazing stuff!

I was thinking a good education. You know HHS is the only public Blue Ribbon School in the state!

Yes it is. Provided that they have the room in the school and accept you. County schools don't have to accept you but can, just the same as HHS and Beechwood. It is not that hard of a concept to understand, so you can do a little research before you post something that suggests I am being untruthful. To your second point, Yes they are and two are private, but so are Boone Co, Campbell Co, Ryle, SK, Dixie, Holmes, Newport, Bellevue, Dayton, etc etc...Again where is the advantage for HHS & Beechwood over any other public school? 158.120 Nonresident pupils -- Tuition. (1) Any board of education may charge a reasonable tuition fee per month for each child attending its schools whose parent, guardian, or other legal custodian is not a bona fide resident of the district. Any controversy as to the fee shall be submitted to the Kentucky Board of Education for final settlement. The fee shall be paid by the board of education of the school district in which the pupil resides, except in cases where the board makes provision for the child's education within his district. If a board of education is required to pay a pupil's tuition fee, the pupil shall be admitted to a school only upon proper certificate of the board of education of the district in which he resides. (2) When it appears to the board of education of any school district that it is convenient for a pupil of any grade residing in that district to attend an approved public school in another district, the board of education may enter into a tuition contract with the public school authorities of the other school district for that purpose, but before a contract is entered into with public school authorities in another state the school shall have been approved by the state school authorities of that state through the grades in which the pupil belongs. When a district undertakes, under operation of a tuition contract or of law, to provide in its school for pupils residing in another district, the district of their residence shall share the total cost of the school, including transportation when furnished at public expense, in proportion to the number of pupils or in accordance with contract agreement between the two (2) boards.

I agree with this statement completely but I have read multiple post that suggest that because HHS and Beechwood are Indpendent districts they can admit anyone they want. They can as long as the student pays tuition which is the same as all public schools. I am not aware of any law that forces county schools to accept out of district kids but I never made that statement. So "open enrollment" isn't an advantage of an Independent district is all that I was pointing out.

True, but the same is true for all public schools having an independent district has no bearing on anything they are no different than any other public school. Anyone can go to any public school that is out of thier district by paying tution, in other words no advantage to HHS or Beechwood. To my knowledge unlike T & X; HHS has never had a player from another state on thier roster. Why would they if someone lived in OH they have St. X, Elder, Moeller, Colerain, etc to attend. Also if a player does transfer to HHS they have to deal with the KHSAA board of control to approve the transfer as a bona fide change in residence or lose a year of eligability. Is the same true for privates???

I can't speak about Beechwood because I do not know but Campbell county does not have open enrollment or reciprocal agreements. If you live outside of Ft. Thomas city limits and want to go to school there you have to pay tutition and vica versa if you lived in Ft. Thomas and wanted to go to Campbell county you would have to pay tution(not that anyone would). Not sure where the precieved advantage is for HHS that an earlier poster referred to.:sssh:

Riddle me this. Where do you get your definition of an Indpendent school district or the notion that an Independent school district can admit anyone they want? The Ft. Thomas Independent School District includes the City of Ft. Thomas only. If you live anywhere outside of the city limits you have to pay tuition to go there, which is the same with any public school, Independent or not. They operate under the same rules as any county school district. To equate the advantages of private schools in athletics to an Independent school district is less than accurate. If they were open enrollment kids from Newport, Bellevue, Dayton, Highland Heights, Cold Spring, Alexandria, etc could go there without paying tution which is simply not the case. FYI: In Kentucky, there are two types of public school districts. The first type, county school districts, typically cover all or a large part of a county, and are generally styled "XXXX County (Public) Schools." The second type, "independent" districts, usually encompass cities or groups of cities. These have several different styles, but with one detail in common—"County" is nowhere to be found in the district name. All independent districts operate within a single county, with the following exceptions:Caverna, which serves two adjoining cities on separate sides of the boundary between Barren and Hart Counties Corbin, which serves a single city divided between Whitley and Knox Counties. There is some question as to whether the Fairview or Russell district overlaps into another county. An official map of the Fairview district, located in Boyd County, seems to indicate that it overlaps into a small area of Greenup County. However, the official map of the adjacent Russell district in Greenup County includes the aforementioned overlap, plus a small area within Boyd County.
