Let me stop you for just a second. Boone was ranked in the top 10 in 5 out of 6 polls when they beat Holmes. BGP was the only poll that didn't have them ranked. Boone also beat Holmes on Boone's home floor. It's much more impressive to beat a team on their home floor, rather than your own. Elliott Co on the other hand, lost to Shelby Valley on a NEUTRAL COURT and trailed by 15 up until the 3 minute mark. To say the first quarter is where they lost the game is incorrect, considering SV lead by more with 3 minutes to go in the game, than they did at the end of the first. Also Holmes has already beaten Ballard...again, on a NEUTRAL COURT. They also own the second most top 20 wins in the state and their total doubles any other team in the state, including more than Eastern and EC combined. I'd say they are worthy of a top 2 or 3 ranking, regardless of a slip up on the road against a top 10 team. I really hate getting in to this, because it makes me look like I'm bashing EC, but in reality I'm not and really not trying to. I gave them their credit when it was due for knocking off two quality opponents. Hopefully a few of the EC fans can do the same though, instead of continually trying to take away from SV's win over them. Honestly, a lot of the things said about EC are brought upon themself from the things said on here by a few posters...

Brandon Hatton. Should be an 8th grader, but either way he is very solid and will probably start varsity next year as an 8th grader. Hatton reminds me a lot of Mike Hester from few years ago. Hatton's at Dixie now, but the question is for how long? Not saying it's true or not, but some think Dixie may just be a "pit stop" to get some varsity experience before moving to a different school. Very good possiblity he ends up wearing a different red and white uniform before it's all said and done....Hatton is originally from Covington...:sssh:

Not me. Holmes lost to Newcath last year, who is no where close to what Boone is this year and they didn't move from the top spot. Too many quality wins against quality competition to take them out of the top spot after one loss in nky. Had Boone beat Highlands, they'd have a more legit argument for being ahead of Holmes.

Some of those dunks are very impressive for the high school level. They remind me a lot of Holmes of this year, athletically. I think Pittman has a little over 60 dunks so far. I remember seeing that WC team against Covcath in the semi's and then in the finals in 04 though, and they were fun to watch.

Not to get off topic, but aren't the Knipp boys originally not from Elliott County, but rather moved there during late elementary school, early middle school?

SV was up 55-40 with just over 3 minutes left. You're right that SV missed 9 straight, but the only reason EC even made a game of it was because SV couldn't make their free throws down the stretch. Also what does the Ballard game have to do with anything? Nobody's even brought that up. :confused: I personally have no problem with EC being in the top 5 now...just saying a few of the EC faithful should learn to give other teams a little more credit...especially a team that pretty much dominated them.

Actually Covcath only won 3 out of 5 from 69-73'. They won it in 69, 70 and 71, then Holy Cross won it in 72 and Newcath 3 peated from 73-75.

I've never once said this year's Holmes team was the greatest ever and while I've said they'll likely win region, never did I say they'd walk through the region. I think you might want to check your years. Newcath won region in 66 and Holy Cross won region in 72, followed by a 3peat by Newcath. Also how can you have Covcath winning 4 out 5 two times when your two examples are concurrent with one another? Covcath won 5 straight from 67-71 and that was it. I was referring to winning 4 titles in 5 years on two separate occasions...not using years 1 through 4 and then 2 through 5 in a 5 peat. .

What does Scott Co and Holmes have to do with an article about Elliott County? It's posts like these that make people want to root against the Lions. :irked: I really enjoy the passion of EC's players and fans but honestly let's not go overboard and try to bash other schools and players. I'd be hard pressed to believe that 07 Scott Co team wasn't the best of the last 10 years. They were absolutely loaded and to go undefeated against Ky competition speaks volumes about that team. If you look at who Scott Co beat on their way to the championship, it becomes even more evident that they accomplished more than any other team during the last 10 years. They dominated Adair Co in the second round and then faced a loaded Holmes team in the semi's that featured two future JUCO All Americans in Greg Rice and Austin Hill, one of the best athletes in the state in Duran Jefferson, a future D1 signee in Arrez Henderson (who had shut down Notre Dame signee Ty Profitt the game before), and also a talented junior class that would lead Holmes to the state title game the following year, and a little known sophomore by the name of Jamel Riley. Then in the finals they took down a loaded Ballard team that featured probably the best guard in the state in Twanny Beckham. That Scott Co team will go down as one of the best teams in KY history.

So every out of state team EC has played is top 20 because you say so? :lol:

IMO if anyone is going to knock Holmes out of the region tourney it's going to be Highlands. Despite getting down by 18 at one point, they continued to play hard and gave Holmes all they wanted on Holmes' home court. Had Boone beaten Holmes on Holmes' home floor I'd be much more worried about a rematch with them in two or 3 weeks. Having the region tourney at BOK Center is actually a HUGE advantage for Holmes IMO considering they've already knocked off the state's current #1 team on that same floor. I also expect Coach Henley to make some adjustments and throw different things at Boone in a potential rematch. Holmes has won 3 of the past 4 region tourney's....this group is used to winning big games when it counts.

I wasn't dogging them or their fans. :confused: Just because I don't agree with something said about them, doesn't mean I'm dogging them. Sorry if you took it that way. So do you think if SV makes 8-11 of those last free throws, EC still only loses by 3? I agree they didn't have a good game plan, but at the same time, you have to give SV credit for having a great gameplan and exploiting EC's weaknesses throughout the game. Let's not forget SV also had a much tougher road to the semi's having to beat Newcath before playing EC. I'd say they were more tired than EC. I don't buy the "they had tired legs" excuse...these are high school kids. Why did it affect EC but not SV? I'm talking about in the polls, getting recognition. It's not like other teams haven't received the same publicity though. Heck, Holmes and Scott Co are both currently ranked in the top 25 of 3 different national polls. I never said the teams they played were slouches...just stating my opinion that when it comes to rankings, people doing these polls look much closer at beating the top in state teams...not out of state teams that they know nothing about.

:thumb: Polls are just for fun. Some get the teams right or close to where they should be, and some don't and are way off base.

It's real tough to say that though considering SV had a 10+ point lead the majority of the game and them missing 11 straight free throws was the only reason EC hung around. SV very well could have won by 20+.

There's a reason computer rankings don't factor in out of state wins/losses though. Not enough common opponents. If that's what a few EC fans want to fall back on, have at it, but honestly the teams who continue to beat tough in state teams are going to receive more recognition because there's no way of knowing whether or not that out of state team would be top whatever in the state...it's all a matter of an opinion..

First time Holmes and Bryan Station played, Holmes tried pressing and got burnt time after time. Coach Henley was quoted as saying it looked like "a layup line at the other end." Holmes didn't press the second game and just played tough m-2-m defense in the half court and it payed off...so to say no adjustments were needed is incorrect. You also have to remember in a possible rematch, Boone is going to have to beat Holmes on a neutral floor that Holmes has already beaten Scott Co on earlier in the year and Boone has never played on it. The homecourt advantage they had against Holmes in the first game can be thrown out the window in a rematch.

Lost in the first round last year to Mason County 66-62. Lost in the second round in 06/07, 92-76 to Warren Central.

See what happened to the last team that Holmes played in a rematch after they lost to them...There's a reason people have Holmes winning the 9th and not Boone. Boone may very well not even make it out of their district, and if they do they likely will have to beat both Holmes and Highlands to win region, depending on the draw.

Well then they still don't have a legitimate argument for being ranked above Eastern. Eastern is 24-1 and 3-1 against the top 10. Elliott is 24-2 and 1-1 against the top 10. Why should they be ranked ahead of Eastern when they have 2 more top 10 wins and a 10 game winning streak?? Regardless, EC still lost to Shelby Valley two weeks ago. Ballard was a legit win but honestly Mason County was WAYYY overrated in the top 10....but it was a nice win over a top 20 team. Also let's not ignore the fact that Holmes has the second most top 20 wins in the state....more than Eastern and Elliott Co combined. You have to look at the big picture.
