I don't see Covcath being a legit title contender again until the 10/11 season...too much talent at Boone, Holmes, Highlands, Ryle and Conner.

Yea. The only times I can think of any gym around here selling out and people getting locked out is in 04/05 at Covcath for their regular season game against Holmes and I think it might have sold out again either for their regular season game or district final game in 06/07 against Holmes.

I think the majority of the people got in...I don't remember too many (if any) being left out.

I agree. Even though Boone beat Holmes, I still think Highlands is Holmes' biggest threat. Highlands played Holmes tough on their home floor. If all 4 are lucky enough to make it, I think Holmes, St. Henry, Ryle, and Highlands all have an advantage considering they've all played at the BOK Center before.

I like FC in this one. Anderson is a solid team but FC's guards will be the difference. I look for Meyer to have a big game. Franklin County 63 Anderson County 54

Same here. I'd love to see the Birds get Beechwood again on a neutral court and avoid Holmes until the finals. A perfect scenario for me would be Holmes knocking out Boone in the semi's and then meeting Highlands in the finals. :thumb:

I remember this. I believe at 3:30 people were already in line. I plan on getting to the game around 4 on Tues. Anyone know what time they'll start letting people in?

It was the same way in 03 as well...only they had people waiting in the downstairs where the kindergarten rooms are for the 8:30 tip off between Holmes and Covcath. I was lucky enough to be on the pass list though, so I didn't have to wait in line. I'd recommend getting to the gym around 4 on Monday and Tues to get a comfortable seat.

I can understand where you're coming from, but like Sportsguy, I much rather see them played on different nights. Much better for the fans. It also allows coaches and players to go scout before the region tourney and see things that maybe teams had been holding back until this point in the season.

I agree. Conner will be tough next year. Losing Lang and Broyles will hurt them, but they have enough talent and will be deep enough next year to make up for the loss of those two. Avery could very well end up being a big time player if he works hard in the off season.

I really don't see why a team would throw a game just to avoid a certain team in the first round. Honestly there's a 75% chance (3 out of 4) that they don't even meet up with them, if for whatever reason Holmes or Boone were to lose in the district championship. I like my odds in that situation.

I really don't see what the 7th, 10th, and 11th have to do with this thread, but I couldn't disagree anymore that the 9th won't see any advantages next year as compared to this year. Boone loses Mcfarland but return the nucleus of their team with Gabbard, Popp, Earls, and Cotton. They also won the JV and freshman championships this year, which tells you they have talent coming up. Holmes loses Riley, Housely, and D. Johnson but return a Mr. Basketball candidate in Pittman to go along with another Mr. Basketball candidate and probably the best player in the state next year in R. Johnson, and a top 10 senior in J. Johnson. They also return a deep sophomore class that only lost I believe 4 games all year at the JV level and that was without their best player in that class, in Arnold, who will be seeing his third year of varsity ball as a junior. Highlands doesn't have any seniors this year and will be the deepest team in the region and will go probably 10 or 11 deep, led by a very talented duo in Kowolonek and Grote. They also have two solid underclassmen in Jack Stewart and Ryan Egan who will make a contribution off the bench. Ryle will be another deep team with a lot of talent. They return a solid junior class and several sophomores who are contributing this year. They will be a very big team with 6'7 Nichols, 6'5 Stauffer, 6'4 Coleman, and 6'2 Mcleish. Conner also could make some noise not only in region, but also against teams not in the 9th. They only lose 2 seniors from this year's team who actually beat GRC earlier in the year. Next year the 9th will see some of the best basketball they've seen since the years we watched a Doellman led Ryle, a Brock led SK , and Neltner led Highlands battle it out with a very good St Henry team. Holmes is the overwhelming favorite for next year, but IMO it will be much tougher for them to win region next year, than it will be this year. There will be atleast 5 teams in the 9th next year that can consistently compete with and beat top 20 teams from around the state.

True, but up until last year, the 35th had pretty much been the Covcath Invitational regardless of where the tourney had been held. Since 2000, they've won 6 of the last 8 district championships. The only two times they didn't win it was in 03 at HC, and last year at Holmes, with Holmes winning both.

I really like Lloyd too in the 34th and would love to see them make the region tourney, but Dixie is playing pretty good ball right now. (Ourside of the loss to HC) Ryle has beaten Conner by 27 at home and by 9 on the road. With Conner really struggling lately, I just don't see them getting by Ryle.

Or last year when Highlands and Covcath were two of the top 3 teams in region...Highlands won their district championship, Covcath lost theirs, and they met in the first round. This happens a lot on the boys side, as Covcath and Holmes are in the same district and usually the top 2-3 teams in the region.

What is holding him back then from making the switch?

I really like this idea. You could even add Dixie and Boone to the equation as well, since they both just got new gyms and they are more than big enough to hold a nice crowd for a district championship: 33rd- Dixie 34th- Conner/Ryle 35th- Boone 36th- Holmes Having the games there would also cut down on travel for the teams participating.

Times have changed my friend..... How is it being selfish by dunking to help out your team? I much rather a kid dunk, since it's the most high percentage shot on the floor, than try to shoot jumpers.

The press against Conner got stronger as the game went on. At first it allowed Conner to get several wide open 3's, but once Henley made a few adjustments, it caused a lot of turnovers and was the key for Holmes setting the tempo. They usually bring Arnold in for the press. They put Pittman and Arnold at the half court line, and then they have Rico/Riley/Housely/D.Johnson (depending on personnel) double team one guard and force the other guard to the sideline, where their height is more of an advantage. Didn't see Conner get to many lay ups against this.

I'd say Scott Co is as quick as Ballard....they like to get out and run too and take quick shots, just like Ballard.
