B-Ball-fan Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I noticed on khsaa.org that on Monday night Feb. 23 & Tuesday night Feb. 24th there will be both a boys and girls district game at Holy Cross. Since Holy Cross can get pretty tightly packed, I'm wondering if they plan on clearing the gym after the 1st game each night to allow room for the fans of the 2nd game. Sure, even if they don't, there still might be a grand exit after the 1st games just because, but since it's the districts I'm still expecting a giant line outside before the games and a possible situation with fans being turned away. Personally, I want to see the 8:15 p.m. game between CovCath and Beechwood, but the 6:00 p.m. game before it is Notre Dame and Beechwood. Likely to be a lot of the same fans for both games, but not entirely because some follow boys more closely and other follow girls more closely. I'm still thinking that if they don't clear the gym, I'll have to get in line about 5:00 p.m. just to see an 8:15 p.m. game. Does anyone know how they plan on handling this so I know what game plan I have to use to make sure I don't get locked out of the game that I want to see? I know it's not all about 'me', but I'm sure this question might soon come up with a lot of other people too. :idunno:
Oscar Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Was told by very reliable sources they will NOT be clearing the gym between games. I find this to be very poor decision making. Personally, and I'm sure this will put many up in arms, Holy Cross should NOT be able to hold districts. I understand about the money situation, earning money through the gate etc. But there have to be ways to rectify this situation in the future..
AirYardGo Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 The gym will NOT be cleared on Monday or Tuesday. It will be cleared Friday.

I bet you could get there at 7:00 and be ok, but you never know.
Voice of Reason Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 How big is Holy Cross's gym compared to Beechwood's? The reason I ask is because for the Beechwood/CCH game at Beechwood this year, there were still seats available right up till varsity game time. If Holy Cross's gym is bigger than Beechwood's, finding a seat may not be as big a problem as you think.

Both only have one side, with Holy Cross having extra seating on the bench side of the court, but those seats are reserved.

True, but I would expect to see the CCH students there this time as there was a dance last time and a lot of them didn't go to the game.
HolmesAlumni Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Home court advantage is certainly something every team desires, but more importantly......is the venue conducive to the activity? A gym the size of Holy Cross is not the best venue for such an event, especially with back to back games and no clearing of the gym. Good luck to the fans of the second game played and to the first game fans......it will be a long line way before tip off. Money making obviously is not the issue here...I know for a fact that Holmes has been offered to Holy Cross for districts....FREE OF CHARGE...with all door sales and concessions being theirs for the taking. Sometimes you have to set aside the "comfort" value and think of what is best for the majority, especially if you can make a much needed profit from the situation. It can't always be about the so called miracle of home court advantage......

Especially when they're going to profit more from having much larger crowds? It's not like the homecourt advantage would be taken away. HC is a hop, skip, and jump away from Holmes and they would actually draw more fans with it being held there.

You need all the help you can get. I agree that the gym should be cleared, but home court advantage is key.

If HC played Holmes at Holmes, HC would be home team??? :idunno: Why do Holmes fans care about districts, Rupp holds more than enough and that is all they need to worry about.
Theoldguy Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 As I stated in another thread, I was told the CovCath vs Beechwood game has been moved to the first game of the night from the second game of the night. Smart move on the part of the 35th District and or Cov Holy Cross.

HC is a hop, skip, and jump away from Holmes and they would actually draw more fans with it being held there. Let me take you back about 12 years. Holy Cross had beaten CCH I THINK 3 times that year, It was HC's turn to hold the districts. HC decided to hold the districts at Thomas More for a bigger gate. HC gave up home court advantage and also ended up losing in the first round to CCH. That was a very strong team for HC, could have done a lot of damage at the Sweet 16, and this was before seeding. Sometimes you have to think about more than money.
