Why do Holmes fans care about districts, Rupp holds more than enough and that is all they need to worry about.

 

Why ever give up home court advantage when your playing the #3 team in the state? You need all the help you can get. I agree that the gym should be cleared, but home court advantage is key.

 

I personally have no problem with the districts being held at HC. I don't think it's going to help them either way. I wouldn't say home court advantage is that important in this rivalry anymore. Holmes has won by an average of 23 ppg the past two times they've played HC at HC. (56-37; 56-29)

 

The only problem I see is the amount of fans that will likely be turned away for the district championship. It was a smart move by HC though to move the Beechwood/CCH game to the first game of the night rather than second.

Let me take you back about 12 years. Holy Cross had beaten CCH I THINK 3 times that year, It was HC's turn to hold the districts. HC decided to hold the districts at Thomas More for a bigger gate. HC gave up home court advantage and also ended up losing in the first round to CCH. That was a very strong team for HC, could have done a lot of damage at the Sweet 16, and this was before seeding.

 

Sometimes you have to think about more than money.

Would be good if it could happen, but there are way to many games to be played and I don't think you would be able to fit in every single game.

What if just the district championships were held there? That might not be a bad idea. Have all of the district semi's at the host schools around NKY during the week, then have the finals for both girls and boys on Fri, Sat, and Sun.

I have always said to have the Districts at other Districts. For example, the 35th would play at Ryle and the 33rd could play at Holmes.

Holy Cross is a great venue for the Districts. The crowd packed into the Finn gives the game a supercharged atmosphere. Mr. Eiffert and the rest of the Holy Cross administration are magnificient hosts, as opposed to the SMG company out of Philadelphia who manages the Bank of KY Center. Home court advantage notwithstanding, Holmes beats Holy Cross. Beechwood beats Cov Cath. Holmes blows out Beechwood in the District finals.

With the districts championships meaning not much more than a game that helps determine the seeding for the regional tourney, I like that all 4 games are played on the same night at the same time in different locations making every team think nothing more than to win their respective games instead of perhaps throwing theirs if they already know the outcome of another game. Let's say in some freak of nature Holmes plays first and loses. What team wouldn't now consider the advantages of losing their district championship game to increase their chances of avoiding Holmes in the 1st round of the regionals? May sound kooky, but not completely impossible. If you have all 4 games at the same place and possibly stretched out over a couple of nights, then you increase the chances of this kind of thing happening. It keeps the district finals more pure if you keep them separate and on the same night at the same time.

I do know for a fact that Coach L would love to play the 35th at TMC every year and yes he as do I, understands that CovCath would give up their turn at home court advantage but it would be best for the district.

Strange you mention this but in the Girls side of the tourney a couple of years ago, both big favorites NDA and Boone both lost in their Championship district games 05/06, then the following year 06/07 Boone lost again and while NDA did win, NDA and Boone played in the first round game. Strange things happen from time to time....
