I have always said to have the Districts at other Districts. For example, the 35th would play at Ryle and the 33rd could play at Holmes.

 

I really like this idea. You could even add Dixie and Boone to the equation as well, since they both just got new gyms and they are more than big enough to hold a nice crowd for a district championship:

 

33rd- Dixie

34th- Conner/Ryle

35th- Boone

36th- Holmes

 

Having the games there would also cut down on travel for the teams participating.

I do know for a fact that Coach L would love to play the 35th at TMC every year and yes he as do I, understands that CovCath would give up their turn at home court advantage but it would be best for the district.

Strange you mention this but in the Girls side of the tourney a couple of years ago, both big favorites NDA and Boone both lost in their Championship district games 05/06, then the following year 06/07 Boone lost again and while NDA did win, NDA and Boone played in the first round game. Strange things happen from time to time....

 

Or last year when Highlands and Covcath were two of the top 3 teams in region...Highlands won their district championship, Covcath lost theirs, and they met in the first round. This happens a lot on the boys side, as Covcath and Holmes are in the same district and usually the top 2-3 teams in the region.

You mean to give up their chance at playing at CovCath? Cov Holmes and Cov Holy Cross.! He/CovCath would be a fool to give it up their year at CovCath, if Holmes and HC won't give up there home turn too....

True, but up until last year, the 35th had pretty much been the Covcath Invitational regardless of where the tourney had been held. Since 2000, they've won 6 of the last 8 district championships. The only two times they didn't win it was in 03 at HC, and last year at Holmes, with Holmes winning both.

With the districts championships meaning not much more than a game that helps determine the seeding for the regional tourney, I like that all 4 games are played on the same night at the same time in different locations making every team think nothing more than to win their respective games instead of perhaps throwing theirs if they already know the outcome of another game. Let's say in some freak of nature Holmes plays first and loses. What team wouldn't now consider the advantages of losing their district championship game to increase their chances of avoiding Holmes in the 1st round of the regionals? May sound kooky, but not completely impossible. If you have all 4 games at the same place and possibly stretched out over a couple of nights, then you increase the chances of this kind of thing happening. It keeps the district finals more pure if you keep them separate and on the same night at the same time.

 

Actually, the 36th is being played on Saturday Night. If Highlands sees a freak upset of Holmes or Boone, they could seriously consider throwing the game. Like you said, I think all games should be played on the same night at the same time to avoid this.

I really don't see why a team would throw a game just to avoid a certain team in the first round. Honestly there's a 75% chance (3 out of 4) that they don't even meet up with them, if for whatever reason Holmes or Boone were to lose in the district championship. I like my odds in that situation.

I like having them on different nights, a number of fans would be at one district final one night, and another the next night.

I can understand where you're coming from, but like Sportsguy, I much rather see them played on different nights. Much better for the fans. It also allows coaches and players to go scout before the region tourney and see things that maybe teams had been holding back until this point in the season.

Yes, believe me, I would love to go to every District final! I guess I'll only be able to go to two.
