It was an awesome play to see, it was something that would happen in backyard football however it more than likely was illegal...After the play was over the Conner coach was pleading his case on the sideline and it looked like the ref was clueless and apologizing...However nothing was a game changer in this game other than the fact that SK had three or four defenders in the backfield every play...the Conner QB got smoked a few times and when they pitched to the running back SK's defenders were their every time nearly intercepting the pitch...Also Chad Lawrence is the most elusive QB I've ever seen and he has another gear than any other player on the field...

Is it really that impressive to beat a team convincingly that only dresses 13 players...Food for thought SK beat a full squad 6a Conner 48 to 7, Lex Cath routed Lex Christian, Pineville routed Pikeville and there are many more examples of blowouts in games against full squads...Fulton County only had enough for two subs the whole game on either side of the ball I mean C'mon...Mayfield is good but this game does nothing for me

It looked as if Conner players thought that the only way to advance the ball was on the ground, every player swarmed to Lawrence and he just floated a pass to Rabe cutting across the field wide open...Rabe was probably only five yards from the line of scrimmage when he caught the ball he got all the yards after the catch...Lawrence scrambled like a chicken with his head cut off, as every Conner player pursed Lawrence, Rabe got behind the entire defense and Lawrence delivered it right before getting hit...

Correct Conner blocked it Lawrence picked it up scrambled a bit and found Rabe wide open for the td

Defense is Ryles problem gotta be able to stop a one headed monster like Cooper.

Chad Lawrence is a great high school player...Simpson was a legendary high school player therefore NKY 6A still has a great player.

Lets face it untill SK and Ryle meet and a winner is crowned SK fans will trash talk Ryle fans and vice versa...a great rivalry seems to be brewing

Guess folks shouldnt judge sk by their first game against the middies then because they would also steamroll ryle...just saying grats to coop

I'd have to agree what seperates SK from Ryle and other northern Ky 6a teams is there hardhitting, swarming defense...SK is gelling Ryle needs to find themselves

Ryle has a lot of work todo...cooper is good but ryle is on another level supposedly...i guess a win is a win

Awesome news so Doss can be the offense down low with Stephens playing garbage ball and giving the team some fouls to give...They have very good guards that can score and a scoring big man makes them even more of a threat to win the region

Coach Steiner loves tall players that can eat space and pick up fouls hes had several guys 6 foot 6 or taller the last few years with no offensive game...about the only skilled big guy offensively that he's had was Josh Hurd...Steiner loves defense I'd say Stephens can alter a few shots:ylsuper:

I would also like to know the status of Nate Powell he has the makings of the next big name to come through SK...obviously he isn't Simpson but I feel with him in there SK becomes more like last years team making them a dual threat again.

Probably 2 wins in the playoffs would be there cap...Depending on how their Oline improves they could go further though

Repka was a good high school kicker but they don't lose much with Herald that's for sure...A booming leg isn't everything but I saw Herald hitting 45 and 50 yrd field goals with ease before the HC game...

SK was young last year and a year makes a big difference both in maturity and team chemistry. Add in younger players moving up that were talented last year to add to depth and the 6'8 transfer from Holmes and I'd be surprised if SK doesn't make it past the first round this year and contend for the title.

If SK was 5A they would still be the same team, the players that live in Kenton County and want to play for the Neers would still go there to play. I don't see a big difference in enrollment numbers affecting the product put on the gridiron as far as 5A to 6A goes because not long ago all the teams more than likely would have been in 4A together anyways. Lower Enrollments do have an affect on programs but with open enrollment your going to go where you want to anyways if you have a preference and that's how Kenton Co is set up. Also as far as Highlands goes they have an advantage that few High School teams have and that's regardless of how low there enrollment is there still going to be very good and they will be playing even weaker competition come playoff time. Lets say Highlands is even Lower than 5A there's no difference as far as the strength of their team because they get players from other teams in NKY, regions all across the state and players from all across the country to play for them as well as the players that grew up in Fort Thomas. The difference is HHS would have this melting pot of players from everywhere who are going there because of their rich tradition(which nobody can deny even SK fan or whatever his name is) only there now playing against lower enrollment school who can only choose from the players that live in their district and don't get transfers. You Birdies have an advantage that few teams have and that is you will be a consistent powerhouse with few down years. I'm not arguing HHS power, I'm just justifying a team that's on the rise and I believe that's my Neers. I've enjoyed this topic, I hope the Bluebirds bring another Championship back to NKY!!!

Lets say SK played the same teams as HHS in the playoffs. Last year SK beat Butler, Manual(they barely lost to HHS and X) and then almost squeaked past X in the semis. On the other hand HHS beat Montgomery Co(they lost to Lloyd who has been down), Dixie(SK handled them easy as did HHS), Johnson Central(they gave up 42 to Scott which is sad, SK shut them out HHS gave up 20 to them), Pulaski Co(benefit from a weak district) and the championship vs John Hardin a good team but I believe SK would beat them based on watching SK and X. Comparing scores is meaningless that's not my sole purpose in this argument, although it is interesting. My point is the playoff opponents in 6A are much tougher than 5A...Lets say you replace Pulaski Co with X in the semis does HHS still make the finals, maybe but its not as easy a road. If you have either X, T, Manual or Male in your way every year in the semis as we see in 6A its definitely harder to get that ring.

Im just wondering how many D1 players does Highlands have this year...It seems only Highlands and Ryle fans are posting on this board to why Sk is overrated and will never be any good. Could that be because SK is Ryles biggest competition in NKY 6a and because SK is building a reputable program in 6A and Highlands fans hate the thought that SK could start getting the transfers and players from other areas that they are accustomed to getting because players want to play in the toughtest class in the state and not 5A which is relatively a week class other than Highlands out of district schedule which is usually tough, once they get to the playoffs its a cake walk, if SK was in 5A the last two years they would have two state championships realistically...

NAIA is big in Ky and SK probably has a handful of NAIA players on this years squad. Not just anybody is going to go play D3 either my man you have to have showed something that the coaches like, yea its as small as it gets but the goal is still to win. If anybody could go to Thomas More to play football their team would consist of players from Bellevue, Ludlow, Dayton and many other lower tier schools that don't really dominate the football scene in NKY. But there not for example their freshman RB Hayden from Lexington is a stud and the staff at TMC new he was going to be a steal. I'd say that many of the consistent winners aka Highlands are made up mostly of NAIA or D3 level players with maybe one or two D1 players, which is exactly what SK has this year a solid team with many boys that will play at the next level, how high of a level is to be determined. A few years ago at SK when I graduated the thought of playing football after high school was non existent, that's growth my friend and to be a contender you have to grow little by little.

Your right they did have a D1 running back and he was great and elevated the program for a few years. They now have a D1 or D2 QB and a group of D2 or D3 Wide outs to go along with a solid RB and a mediocre line like most high school teams. On defense they have some of the best LB's in the state and solid pass rushers and speedy safety's. In addition I guess I shouldn't expect people outside of SK to recognize how talented their underclassmen are and the future looks bright. Now we will see but a few years ago pre Miles Simpson they had no possible D1 athlete at QB and no college WRs at any level and no college linebackers or safeties. I would say they are building slowly and my belief is in five years they will be ready to give the powerhouses of KY a ballgame.

The fact that you said my opinion is a joke that simon kenton WILL contend for championships when they really haven't accomplished anything is whats a joke. So if you cant contend if you havent accomplished anything than you can never contend because you have never accomplished anything am I getting that right. So from yourstand point the current contenders are the only contenders we will ever have for the history of high school football because you cant contend if you've never contended??? Hmmm I don't know what the point of this thread or anyother thread not pertaining to Highlands, Trinity, X, Beechwood, Fort Campbell etc...is then because nobody is allowed to build there program up,be proud of it and state logical reasons why they think there school is close to becoming a contender...
