Funny how some of the old rivalry games have fallen by the way side. Hoptown and Mayfield used to be a great game, along with Clarksville, Bowling Green, Paducah... Now none of those teams are on the schedule.

Hopkinsville pretty much dominated the scrimmage, 4-1 before the JVs took the field. Tilghman scored on an intercepted screen pass. Hoptown had a few long scoring drives. Tilghman's offense looked out of synch. Both teams offense started slowly, but Hoptown was able to run the ball effectively after the first few series. I don't think Tilghman got a first down in the second half. Hoptown's defense looked pretty good, and there were some licks passed. In the end it was a pretty good showing, and a surprising one, for Hoptown.

That could be, where were they ranked in 4A? I wasn't knocking the Lakers. I would think that a top 5 team in a higher class (and 5A is a tough class) would have have an easier time BUT it is just a scrimmage.

3-2 County? That's kind of a surprise. They were ranked top 5 in 5A preseason. They were purported to be better than that.

Add Kirk Thomas (Hopkinsville) to that list of tight ends. 6'4, 220lbs, excellent blocker, good hands, 4.0 student.

I agree with an earlier post, Tilghman is a team to watch.

Warren Central will not be a top 10 team. If you're looking for another team from the west, Hoptown will have a better team, they return 15 starters off a very disappointing season last year.

1. Hoptown has an unfair reputation as being a thug school. They've had their share, but they've worked hard to clean up the program. 2. The previous staff (whom I will not name) routinely ran up the score on weaker teams, and those teams still refuse to play. 3. The whole Penner incident, which embarrassed the program and its history. 4. Accusations of recruiting players from other counties. The 'previous staff' was directly responsible for 3 of the 4 of these, but the program still carries that stigma with many local schools. That's why they had to schedule Highlands, Lincoln, and Mercer. Not even longtime rival Clarksville High School will play them. The good news is that some of this has passed and in 09 Hoptown will play Russellville and Ft Campbell. Either time heals, or a 4-7 season in 2007 has brought them around.

There are numerous teams in Western Ky that will not play Hopkinsville, for a variety of reasons...

A Huge accomplishment for Coach Goble. That was a significant victory for a public, non Louisville school to win the largest class in football. Has anyone else done it since?

1995 - Leslie County at Hoptown Because of Tim Couch's reputation and popularity, the game was attended by CNN, Sports Illustrated, and sixty-eight media outlets from eight states. Hoptown handed them a 63-0 butt-kicking that propelled numerous Tiger players into the national spotlight (Deontey Kenner - Cincinnatti, Miguel Merritt - Alabama, Antrose Penner - Kentucky) along with the entire Hoptown football program.

Right, like I said the WKC is not represented. Since the western side of the state is going to get one spot, he must be darn good if he's better than any player on the roster at Bowling Green, Owensboro, Hoptown, Tilghman, Henderson, Christian, Mayfield, Trigg, Madisonville, Ft Campbell...

EXACTLY. According to this, there are no top ten players in Western Ky...:confused:

Owensboro will not be nearly as good this year as they were in 07. They lost the majority of their team to graduation. Bowling Green will be there. I think you have to look at either Christian County or Hopkinsville as the team that replaces Owensboro and plays Bowling Green for the 'region.' Both Hoptown and County didn't lose much to graduation, and are looking to have good seasons.

Picky, picky. :irked:OK. It takes me an hour and a half, in my car, to get to Bowling Green from Hoptown. But then again, I don't drive a twinky school bus.

1. If the school populations, which do change, have not been taken into account before this layout, then this layout of classes and districts will change. After all isn’t that the reason for different classes? 2. The issue of cost is being overplayed in my opinion. If cost really is a factor, then what about the non district games? In many cases teams travel farther to play non district schedules. The district schedule is only 4 or 5 games meaning 6 or 7 games are non district until the playoffs. If cost is such an issue, then non district scheduling must be addressed. I use for my example Hopkinsville who could not schedule local teams (for various reasons I will not mention). Last year Hopkinsville had to drive to Highlands (6 hours) and Lincoln Co. (5 hours) to fill out their schedule. This year Hoptown travels to Mercer Co. (5 hours) and Warren Central (2.5 hours, which is not bad but there many more teams a lot closer). 3. This may only be an issue with Western Ky teams, but I bet when ALL sports are looked at there is a lot of unnecessary travel out of district.

Was this draft alignment done strictly by geographical criteria only, or have the changes in enrollment of each school been taken into account?

Disregard. This came about because of the DoD job announcement system. It sends out announcements to all DoD email recipients, all across the hiring region. The opening was not for Ft Campbell high. I talked to him myself and confirmed - he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Nope, I've seen a message announcing that Ft Campbell is taking applications through 19 May.:confused:

Is Coach Berner coming back? I saw an announcement saing they are taking applications for a head football coach.

Do they have a head coach yet? I suppose that would be a start.

Biggest surprise to me is that Kentucky has one more than Mississippi!:eek:
