Does this person really think that ALL schools have enough kids to field three teams. And how quickly you all are to dismiss the west end schools from this conversation. I guess I've been at one of the small schools too long and have grown to resent how quickly we are dismissed from conversations. I agree that lack of interest hurts these schools, but also the funding is just as big a contributor as lack of interest. And recruiting doesn't hurt either, but that's a topic for another day. I am at a middle school and we have trouble feilding a team for the public middle school league but we have four or five kids playing on freshmen teams at their prospective high schools. I feel like those kids should have to play for their school first, not a school they may or may not attend in the fall. Ask JCTMS how many of their kids are sitting as purple shirts at Male instead of playing for their school. Who wins, and is it fair to the kid's middle school and fellow classmates? I dare say the middle schools aren't the winners. And how did the middle school player find out about high school. I know it's not b.c the high school coach talked to him or his parents about playing ball. That would be illegal, wouldn't it. Just remember when you make a statement that ALL schools have a team you are probably going to make the little people upset. No real point to my post though, I'll admit. Blowing off steam b.c I HATE RAIN!!!! haha

How many of those freshman teams are pulling kids from their middle school team so they can field enough? Is that fair to the middle school players? There is talk of ruling out middle school athletes. Would that be fair to all?

You list 8 public high schools in Louisville, what about the other 14 high schools in Louisville? There are 22 high schools in Louisville, correct? Do the others not count since they aren't the elite schools in Louisville, no disrespect intended. Other than J-Town and Seneca, the rest of those schools could probably fill 10 teams if they wanted. Again, there are 14 other schools in Louisville, and I bet of those 14, at least 10 can't field a freshman team, or did you simply forget about those schools when you made your comment.

Model and Estill are in neighboring counties and have played each other for as long as can be remembered. Sometimes Model has a good team, most of the time not, but it is scheduled every year. Sometimes it's a very good game between two decent teams. This year Estill seems to be loaded. Almost all teams have games like this yearly.

But he's a HITTER!!! What about at the plate? Didn't he lead the state in HR's last year? Glad to see Estill getting the good publicity from this good group of kids. I've heard nothing but the best about them as players, and more importantly, as young men and students. Keep us posted on them please. Love the new "E".

Who did what for Estill? How'd Tim Freeman's boy do? Tell Coach Wood to check the 1988 team's record. I think we went 24-6, been a long time ago though. Coach Tate said you all were going to set a school record for wins this year hopefully and I think the '88 team has the record now. Good Luck this year and bring some pride to Estill!!!

Whatever you want to say, Tia Gibbs is a much, much better player than Monique Reed. With the ballots in and around Louisville being split between these two and Ceairra Ricketts of Fairdale I don't think either of them will win it. I'm guessing Novosel of Lex. Cath.

We'll I hate to say I've been calling it, but I've been calling it. Butler by 12-15 over Manual...who said it? Butler wins it all by over 20 in the next game. Write it down. Now for Miss Basketball....Tia Gibbs and Monique Reed are totally different type players. Monique is power while Tia is just flat out smooooooooooth. We played both this season and have for the past few years. They both dominate but in different ways. However, look at Monique vs. Tia in the "big games." Tia always delivers, Monique...well. But no doubt Tia's supporting cast is much better. Fern Creek had two girls that would play at any school, but the rest of their team would be JV or freshman players at best. Tia Gibbs is the COMPLETE package and should be Miss Basketball. Vandy is getting a gem. Monique won't last at Louisville. 5'11" is big in high school but it just won't do it in the Big East. Just one idiot's opinion. Both great high school players, but Gibbs is who you'd want on your college team. That's why Tia's going out of state and Monique is going down the road.

Winner of Manual and Butler will win the State by over 20. Girl's basketball in Louisville is just that good. Sorry to the rest of the state but it's just fact. Lexington has three, maybe five including Lafayette and Henry Clay, teams that can compete state wide. Louisville arguably had 12 teams that could have been in made it to Bowling Green this year and made it as far as Manual and Butler have. Look at the LIT scores and records of Louisville teams vs. the teams out in the state. Good Luck to all remaining teams. Being an eastern ky boy I wouldn't mind seeing the Bart and Phil Rison take another championship to Mt. Sterling, but I've got to go with the Butler Bears. Best team in Louiville this year regardless of what the ranking have said. They beat Manual by 12-15, and then get Etown by 20'ish. Eddy Wilson, coach of the year. Just one idiot's opinion though.

Breathitt will have no size advantage against Manual, it may actually be the other way. Nothing against Bloody Breathitt, my daddy's from Lost Creek, but Manual cruises in this one. Too much size, with beef, and speed in the backcourt.

Manual is good, Butler is a little better. Championship game is in the semi's. Just one opinion though.

Tincup, I feel your pain. We are in the same situation and with snow coming it doesn't look any better for next week. Cooperstown, thanks that's the kind of stuff I'm looking for; unique drills. Hopefully we all know most of the basics to cover but doing it over and over and over and over INSIDE is driving me and the boys crazy. WE need something fun and out of our norm. Anyone else have any "fun" but unusual ideas. We have played wiffle ball twice just to "scrimmage." Thanks again to all that have helped so far.

Since we've been inside all spring so far and it looks like it will be another week or so of gymtime, anyone have any ideas on how to keep things fresh? Only so much bunt coverage, throwing, running, and cage work to be done. Guys getting squirrely. Any tips?

Q Miles is 4'11", 5'0" on a good day. She's pulled Monique twice, Ricketts once, Gibbs once, and held all but Gibbs to substandard nights, and Gibbs got her points off steals. She's the toughest on ball defender in the 7th region in my opinion. The 2 guard, Middleton, gets Moore's offense going. She's the "X" factor for them. They need to prove themselves in the regional though, they are usually on early out. Fun team to watch.

Shaw is special. People need to start mentioning her when they talk about Miss Basketball 2010.

I love Estill's mascot! When's the last time you heard of a wildcat, bobcat, cardinal, etc. stop a TRAIN!!! GO ESTILL!!!!

Great Job Engineers!!! Don't get where this "'Neer's" thing came from but I have a clue. A football coach back in the '80's by the name of Kevin Sargent brought it with him from West Virginia where they said it about WVU. Nobody liked it back then b.c Sargent was an outsider but I'm guessing someone from Irvine came up with it this time so it was a good idea. Oh well, GO 'NEERS!!! Hope to see you in Bowling Green!!!

1988 is my nomination for Estill Co. 23-6 with wins over Harrison Co, Madison Central (3), Paintsville, and PRP. Losses include 2-1 against Kevin Jarvis/Tates Creek, a one run loss against Lorne Frazier/Rowan Co, and the regional finals against Harrison. District 40 champions and four east-west all-stars. Some would argue the Jon Kirby led teams were better but this was a better TEAM.

Grant had really turned it around. Why the coaching change? Thought Williamson was doing a good job. Did he leave Grant?

What is the statistical ruling when a player blocks a shot and then goes back up and grabs the ball out of the air? Is it a block and a defensive rebound? If it hits the floor does it become a block and a steal? What if the ball never leaves the shooter's hand before it is blocked and taken away? Is this just a steal, or is it a block and rebound? Just trying to be accurate with our teams stats before we send the final one's in to KHSAA. any input is greatly appreciated. thanks

The 6th and 7th region teams are all out of order also. Iroquois swept Manual this year,Butler is the class of the city, and Assumption and Mercy are no where near top twenty teams. Just one person's opinion but it seems these ranking have more to do with "who you are" than "what have you done."
