  1. Estill Co. has to name Brian Kiser (UL) as it's best ever. Great person also.
  2.:lol: That's funny b.c I know athletes that are getting into Manual now DESPITE their grades. A certain girl's basketball player that graduated last year went to a stuggline middle school, made very poor grades, but man could she handle the rock. She got in. I certain male basketball player had very questionable grades and struggled mightly in his one year at Manual, but he got in despite his academic record. So to say that getting into Manual is a hard thing to do is very questionable. On the other hand Male toughened their standards and quit letting Red bring in athletes that struggled academically. That is one of the reason Male football has struggled in the past few years, at least by Male standards. Word is they are backing off the academics and allowing more "athletes" to get in. It will be interesting to see how the football program does in the next few years. But yes, a kid in the west end can go to a school in the east end. Just check out Eastern's basketball state champions back in the 90's. All of those kids came from the downtown projects. Some were said to even get bailed out of jail to play in the regionals. But that wouldn't happen at an east end school now would it?:jump:
  3. Mosely will go D1. Already has some offers. He has already qualified on his ACT score. He may be a basketball lobo but the kid is special on the offensive end. No one's been quicker in Louisville since Rondo was running the point at Eastern. One of the top 5 OFFENSIVE players in the state hands down, but has to learn there are two ends of the floor. However he won't get any attention for Mr. Basketball. He may lead the state in scoring, should be all-state, and if he gets invited he WILL BE a Ky all-star for the KY-IN series. Go watch the kid play; you'll enjoy it.
  4. Maybe it's fulfilling a life-long dream of wearing the uniform & contributing in any way you can to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Some on here get it but many of you that didn't grow up in Louisville (& even some who did) will simply never understand...:ylsuper: That is the best explanation that I have EVER heard about it. It's sort of like a fraternity in that those that are in have a lifetime of connections and networks that help them succeed far beyond football. Those on the outside aren't supposed to get it and that causes the tension. But I think the Andy Clark example is a reason why more kids should be encouraged to seek playing time over tradition. Had he gone to T he would have sat four years behind Brohm and not have gotten his college education paid for. Sometimes the smaller, less traditional power is the better option.
  5. The weight room and stadium are ridiculous, and any school would be jealous of these facilities, much as T is when it goes to look at X's new athletic improvements. (sorry, had to get a little dig in) But to say that X or T don't have an advantage with fundraising over most schools in this state is ridiculous. I realize that there has been MAJOR improvements in ALL facilities at T over my fourteen years in Louisville, but please also realize that if those improvements needed to be made at Southern, Shawnee, or Doss that those schools would be limited to what the state would give them and any private donations would have to be spread out evenly between all programs, including girl's. T and X don't have to worry about Title IX like public schools do. And I agree with you on the facilities should be for ALL students. I have two nephews and two brother-in-laws that attend or attended T so I understand the importance this school has in the community but I also realize that X and T have UNFAIR advantages over public schools that get dismissed as crying or not stepping up. I respect the crap out of T and X, Glasser was my coach two years at UK's camp, but to say it's as easy as "work harder, our kids do" is just plain ignorance. But to get back on subject, I'd still chose playing over watching. I think kids at T and X get used to and accept secondary roles. Is that really applying oneself, or selling oneself short?
  6. Perhaps some of these that weren't offered the chance to compete for a championship went to schools that didn't dress 100 kids on Friday nights. My high school had 22 players my sophomore year and only 18 my junior year. But I know I should have checked my ego at the door for an opportunity at the championship you say we had a chance at winning. Not everyone has the choices that kids in Louisville and NKY have. Most counties in this state have one high school, maybe two so all kids don't have a choice. You may want to think about that before labeling others selfish or "losers." And no public school can accept a donation to build a weight room or stadium such as T or X without giving money to the other programs. Just a small advantage, but I'm sure those tax dollars are an advantage for the public schools.
  7. The major difference in this question is you are taking a couple of schools, T and X, that are basically small colleges. When I was being recruited the real powers that were looking at me always talked about working hard, playing some JV games, and moving up by my junior and senior year, perhaps my sophomore year if I was willing to redshirt. The smaller schools were offering me a chance to compete for playing time immediately. I chose to take the playing time and even earned the honor of being special teams captain by the end of the year. I KNOW that would not have happened if I had gone to UK, Vandy, or some of the other schools that offered me. But I also realize now later in life that it may have been best for me to go "pay my dues" at the bigger school and have a chance to play on the stage that is the SEC. Undoubtedly every kid would love to be on the field, but just like in college, it's not going to happen. That doesn't mean those that play very little made a bad decision in going to the big school, it's just they made a "different" decision than most. That's what chosing T or X is like; you are going to college and will be expected to pay your dues. Or at least that's what it looks like to an outsider. But for me, I chose to go where I knew I would see the field almost immediately, and yes it may have been selfish, but I still have pictures on the wall of my captain's meeting from my freshman year in college. I wouldn't trade that for a Music City Bowl ring that I didn't earn any day.
  8. Mosely has "it." If you get the chance get out to see him play this year. He is facing two or three defenders at a time every night and still avg. 34 ppg. It's almost as if he can score whenever he wants to. And Moore is the real deal with him.
  9. Isn't this the third year in a row for a new coach at Grant Co.? Is there a story behind the turnover in coaches there? Thought they were doing well the past few years?
  10. You haven't been to many rivalry games in Eastern Kentucky have you? :fight:
  11. Things change. Per this year, or at least I was told this Tuesday night, only the ball has to cross for a back-court violation. Would we have to get a 100% on the test? Would there be any of us left?
  12. Estill vs. Montgomery used to be a very intense rivalry. Bart Rison left Estill to go to Montgomery Co. and this led to a TON of hatred between these two schools. Of course this was back in the '80's and 90's when they were in the same district and played twice a year. Good, clean fun. hahaha
  13. Moore led by 17 at the half, Male came back and led by 1 with about 2 minutes left. Back and forth the rest of the way. Male had a chance to win at end of reg, turned it over and Moore missed a winning shot at the buzzer. OT started with a Male 3, Moore 3, Male 3, Moore 3, and then back and forth the rest of the way. Male had no answer for Eric Mosely of Moore, as he scored 38 and hit big shot after big shot. Male had 3 players chasing him by the end of the game and this led to a wide open layup for another Moore player that put them up 4 with 30 sec. left. Male had the ball with 20 sec. left and had to call a TO with 6 sec. left. Got a forced 3 off at buzzer that wasn't close. Moore is a lot better than people think, and Eric Mosely may be the best player in Louisville. Watch for him the rest of the season. I think he's put up 38, 29, and 38 pts. in his games so far. He makes Moore a very good team. And Male only had two players that played football so I don't think that was too much of a factor. Male will recover; I think they overlooked Moore since they beat them by 60+ last year.
  14. This would be a subject for another thread, but IMHO girl's basketball THROUGHOUT THE CITY is suffering. You are correct that a few select schools are doing VERY well, but the majority of schools barely have enough girls to field two teams, and that is only by allowing varsity players to play on the JV level. Even Iroqois will be struggling after this year. I understand why it's happening; the academics and discipline are better at Manual and Butler while Iroquois has enjoyed an immensely talented group of kids that have been there since 7th grade. But when you have schools such as Male and Eastern, good schools, struggling to get players then something is out of line. But who wouldn't want their child to go to one of the best high schools in Kentucky? However, not just any child should be able to get into Manual or Butler and that hasn't been the case the last few years. That's why you see the same names year in and out coming out of Louisville. And don't even get me started on the whole private school issue...haha
  15. There are several reasons that girl's basketball is suffering in Louisville, not just at Male. The biggest, IMO, being that Manual has around 50 girls in their program and are still taking more, such as the West girl that left you all. It's all a mess and hopefully will be corrected soon. Good luck to Male this year and I hope you turn it around. It's a shame to see what this great school has become in girl's athletics.
  16. This may also be why the girl's program is struggling and didn't have a freshman team for the first time since moving to their new bldg. back in the '80's. Do you think there may be a connection?
  17. That may be b.c the boy's program at Male is dominant while the girl's program is far from that. I did say "almost all" games were boy/girl DH. Male also has the money, parents, and booster program to make things happen that most school struggle with. May also be that Crews doesn't want to share the spotlight with Scully. Or the other way around. haha
  18. In the Louisville metro area almost all games are boy/girl DH. Freshman and JV games are played Monday and Thursday at the school opposite the host of the varsity games on Tuesday and Friday. The times rotate each game with the idea of keeping Title IX in line. I agree it can interfere with practice sometimes but that is where coaches have to decide to not worry about JV and freshman records and use these games as glorified scrimmages. If done correctly, in my opinion, this is perhaps more effective than scrimmaging your teammates daily. Teammates know your plays and cheat on D, and players know each other's tendencies. By working against another team you get a true sense of game speed. The problem is parents don't want these games used as practice; they just want their child to win. The line we use at our school is "they don't put JV and freshman games in the paper." The players could care less about playing that many games in a week. They'd play every day if allowed; just ask them. Our players BEG to play the JV games b.c they know they can work on stuff without the pressure of it being a "real" game. I love it personally, and yes, we have been VERY successful with this approach and have a great girl's program b.c of it. Now it took some time and several conversations to convince the parents of this, but now it's just "part of the program" and accepted by all. Just my two cents but had to share. And I love the DH'ers b.c it gives EVERYONE, not just the boys, big crowds for at least a half.
  19. Moore ended up having to replace 8 of their top 9 from last year due to a couple of transfers and some other personal reasons. Looks like a rebuilding year; not enough talent to compete with the tops of the regions but enough to win many games against like competition.
  20. Almost all fourth quarter I believe. The freshmen took the last drive or two and scored. Just their night.
  21. I may be wrong but I'm fairly sure Estill Co. had the football 11 times tonight. They scored 77 points. You do the math. A truly dominant offensive performance by Estill tonight. Anyone have the amount of yards they gained on the ground. Had to be at least 400. Go Engineers!! Finish the job at Breathitt!!
  22. Sorry BBDM, no disrespect intended. My favorite two teams are Estill and whoever's playing Breathitt. Good luck this week and hope to see you in Irvine next Friday. Estill not a "smashmouth" team. I hope you all come out to Taylor Co. Friday night so you can see what "smashmouth" is all about. Estill not smashmouth, now that's funny. hahaha
  23. Mike Jones was the leading return man in the nation in NAIA his sr. year at Union and an All-American too. He's seen it all thrown at him, and when I was at Campbellsville we NEVER let him touch the ball. Soooo, I'm just guessing he'll have a little something planned for this kid. Go Estill!!!! Hope to see you all in Louisville in early December. You guys physically dominated Breathitt the entire game last time, finish it this time like we know you can!!!!
  24. So Estill Co. isn't a mountain team anymore? When we played in the district with Lincoln, Danville, Jessamine, Franklin, and the likes we were always called a mountain team. Now that we are in a mountain district and region I guess we are called a city team. Now that's some funny stuff. Anyone that's been to Estill Co. will know it's a mountain town through and through. Anyone know why Estill isn't included in this poll?
  25. Thanks. Trying to figure out where Estill will go if they make it to round two. Looks like Wayne or Taylor Counties.
