letsplay2 Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Who are some of the top freshman on both teams? How did the JV teams do?Is ST.X undefeated at the Freshman and JV level also? It appears as if they're off and running this year at all 3 levels!!!!

It appears as if they're off and running this year at all 3 levels!!!! X went 4-0 on the day at the Frosh and JV levels. X pitchers held Trinity to 3 hits and 1 run in 14 innings for both games. Clooney and Leonhart went the distance for the Tigers for the Frosh. 4-1 was the final in the first game, 8-0 for the second. Matt Miller threw 6 scoreless for the JV and Remmers closed for the shutout in game 1. 3-0 was the final. X won the second game easily, not sure who pitched.
letsplay2 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 X appears as if it has Trinity's number early in the year! I know the coaching staff of Trinity will have them back playing well soon. Have you heard of any other area freshman teams that are talented? Ballard, Manual, Eastern....? Thanks for the info.
Homerun Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 The St. X J.V is 5-0. Matt Miller pitched a very solid first game for a 3-0 X victory. He had runners on base, yet got out of innings when runners were on. The game was 1-0 until X scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th. Remmers closed for a shut out in the first game. Kyle Rizenbergs started the second game. The Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but the Rocks fought back to end the game 5-4. Matt Spalding closed the second game.

BufordT Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 You list 8 public high schools in Louisville, what about the other 14 high schools in Louisville? There are 22 high schools in Louisville, correct? Do the others not count since they aren't the elite schools in Louisville, no disrespect intended. Other than J-Town and Seneca, the rest of those schools could probably fill 10 teams if they wanted. Again, there are 14 other schools in Louisville, and I bet of those 14, at least 10 can't field a freshman team, or did you simply forget about those schools when you made your comment.

Park1221, I am still shocked that not all area schools have a freshman team!!! With all the AAU travel teams in the 13 and 14 age group it would seem that enough talented ball players would tryout to field a school team. Is it funding? Lack of interest? Focusing on basketball or football? As far as middle school athletes I have a hard time believing most 7th or 8th graders could contribute to the freshman team. There are exceptions to the rule but they are few and far between.

I don't believe Butler pulls up any 8th graders anymore. Obviously, X, T and DeSales can't have play middle school kids. What is the fairness issue? Are you asking is it fair to the middle school kids who play up or the kids who don't play up? I don't have a problem with it either way. Some schools need to fill out their Fresmen and JV rosters with middle schoolers. The more teams there are, ie Freshmen, JV and Varsity, the more kids get an opportunity to play. The more you play the better you get.

There are exceptions to the rule but they are few and far between. Letsplay, That was list was going on memory of who St.X's freshmen are playing this year. I'm sure most Jeff. Co. public schools have freshmen teams. The west end schools usually don't(Iroquois, Western, Shawnee, Central) field freshmen teams and are lucky if they have enough for a varsity. I think lack of interest is the issue at these schools. Most of the Oldham and Bullitt schools have teams at all three levels. As far as middle school kids, I'd take a good 8th grader over a bad ninth grader any day of the week. Some of the county schools do rely on middle schoolers to fill out their freshmen rosters.
