Featured Replies

Let's hear it. Who was the best team to ever take the field at your alma matter?

For me....

1991 Raceland (63rd District Champions; 16th Region Champions)

Matt Bostic, Brian Fletcher, Shane Davidson (R.I.P.), Rob Pence, Brent Mackie, Brent Boyer, Ryan McKenzie, Kenny Salyers, Chris Potter, Lance Black

1996 GCHS team. Lost 2 games on the season, and made it to the state championship game.

I may be biased but I feel last years GRC team was one of the best in schools history. Record of 33-6. Beat the eventual champions with our ace pitching(who was 10-0). I feel if we had drawn nybody else besides Dunbar we could have been in the championship game..Led by 8 seniors.

The 2005 Raceland team has the best record in school history with a record of 26-6 i believe. They were regional runner up to Boyd Co.. They got beat in 9 innings by 1 run in the regional championship on a very questionable call. They were a great team, I know Tolliver is now playing baseball at Transy, Darby went to Pikeville to play, Grizzle is a Georgetown playing football, and another key member Peyton Martin is will be a senior at Raceland this year and is being recruited by several colleges and is argueable the #1 player in the 16th region this year.

96' greenup team was dominant, and if it would not have been for the 2 week rain out in the state tourny, they would and should have won state that year. That was an elite group, they remind me of the group @ GC now. That team played together from t-ball on. P.S. I might be a little bias to the 96' team if u know what i mean.

I understand you completely. I was a junior at GCHS during that season. I hope that this group of boys enjoys the same success as the 96 team. I have watched many of them grow up and would love for them to experience that.:thumb:

#1 1997 Harrison County (State Champ 40-1)

#2 1998 Harrison County (State Champ 33-6)

#3 1993 Harrison County (State Champ)

#4 1996 Harrison County (State Final 4)

#5 1987 Harrison County (State Runner-Up)

#6 1984 Harrison County (State Runner-Up)

#7 1992 Harrison County (105 HR, National Record)

#8 1999 Harrison County (Sectional Runner-Up)

#9 2005 Harrison County (Sectional Champs)

#10 2004 Harrison County (Sectional Runner-Up)

I am not sure about much before Coach Whitaker, but I know that Don Snopek had some great teams as well. I believe that Lee Kendall did an article about the best baseball teams in school history a few years ago in the Cynthiana Democrat.

Just curious, what did the 2 week rain out in the state tourney have to do with them losing?

2001 team was also Sectional Runner-Up and may have been the best over achievers of any of these teams.

1995 Phelps 22-10 District Champs.

I was wondering the same thing myself.

Yes, that was a very good Raceland team as well. The 1991 team was a bunch of tough, hard nosed guys who jelled at the right time. Funny thing about the Regional Tourney was that Raceland beat Boyd Co. in the semi-finals, 5-4, and had only one hit the entire game. That Raceland team was a couple of bad bounces away in the Sectional Tournament against Knott Co. Central from going to State.

I, too, might be a bit biased towards the 1991 team....

I am not sure who Rockcastle's best is. We have a few Regional Championship teams with J.D. Bussell. Ryan Riddle had a REALLY good team towards the end of his coaching tenure.

Statmanhensley has been to a ton of baseball games, so I will let him pick this one.

East Carter's best team is probably the 1984 State Championship team, they were also very good in '87 they lost in the regional finals and were undefeated in the 16th region until that game. The '99 team hit 94 home runs and was 32-8, and the 2006 team was 27-5 including 20-2 in the state of KY.
