You are right, I think I was thinking of basketball more than football. Larkey will get everything out of all 110 kids I'm sure. Wish him and the kids the best of luck. The big question is will all of them go to the new school. Do you think some will go to Harlan City, bell Letcher and Lee VA. Just something to think about. Larkey sure makes it a better place to go but you know how some people are thinking more than I do.:devil:

I don't think coach Larkey will make a difference in this one. Hazard is not losing anyone on offence and just a few if any on defense. Give Larkey atleast one year before they become respectable, not a lot of talent even with three schools coming together, all the good players are graduating.:banana:

If you notice the top teams seem to be scouting and that may be why they are at the top. There is so much more to coaching than just having practice, you have to be prepare for the other teams. I have noticed a lot of coaches at a lot of games, really think they schedule their games around top teams in their region so they can scout during certain games.

If you had one wish and your team was playing in a big game, in your region, who would be the three officials you would want calling. 14th region- Melton, Cook and Richie 13th region- Ashurst, Hembree and Estep 12th region- Black, Grey and Dyehouse These are guys that work good as a crew, this has nothing to do with individuals.

It is a rule and if a kid has to be told to many times to put it in he can be asked to leave the game and a warning for delay of game is recorded for the team. It is required for all shirts to be tucked unless the uniform is designed to be out(not many if any are now). I really don't know why this is a rule but the best I can figure is that it looks better and also it gives the defense less to grab on to.

I agree with you on the placement of guys in games that is over their heads!! One question i would like to ask is how many regions assign JV ball? Not 100% on this but there are two regions that don't, the 13th and I don't know the other(think its out west). It shows in the 13th for sure. Time has caught up to the guys that have been calling for 20-30 years and it shows. There is no new blood coming up and they are having to learn by being placed in situations that are not good to learn in (over their heads). The 12th region has a bunch of great officials that have had to go through the ranks and EARN the right to call varsity ball. You can't throw a guy into a NL vs SL game and expect them to learn anything but being yelled at and talked about. They all want the big game even if they aren't ready. The 13th is behind the times and if there isn 't something done about it fast it will only get worst. Its time for the coaches to speak up and make something happen.

Yes I do think this is the answer. Not all refs have been good players and not all coaches were good players. Some of the best coaches never started a game or even got off the bench. To say that they never played the game is to broad of a statement. If your 40 years old now the game is a lot different than it was when you played in the 80's. My point is and i have said this on here before, I don't care how much you pay the refs it won't improve the quality, it will only improve the quantity. I owned a business before and I increased my starting pay for new emplyee's hoping to get better people....it didn't work they work a week and quit. The ones that want to be good will be good and the ones just doing it for the money will keep doing it for the money, its a never ending cycle. In every job there is training so why should it be different for the refs. Not asking a lot for a guy to go to a instructional camp for a few days and spend some of the money they have made for years. By the way it all starts at the top, good leaders create a good team and its not like that in some regions.

Depending on the draw (think they still draw) M'boro and Clay are for sure in the top along with SL, Corbin, Jackson, and Whitley.

These two statements say it all!!! This is the only thing that will help. It shows with some that have and do go to the camps. I know of three or four that do this and they have improved a lot and moved up into doing some college.

I agree both teams were able to play on both ends, but there seemed to be a few no calls that went JC way that may have been called with three. My point is there were three refs assigned to the game(according to the Corbin AD). There is no reason there should be only two when there were three assigned. JC won and thats cool, just went to the game because it was the best game for me to watch. No dog in the fight. I think this game showes that the girls region will be just as good as the boys. I think JC deserved to win, they were the better team tonight. Sure don't want to take anything away from the JC girls, they played great.

Real good game considering there was only two refs. Listened to the Corbin AD say that a ref didn't show up so they had to do it with two. Whats going on with the refs this year? How can you not have someone show up? Is the Assigning Sec even doing his job? By the way I think Jackson Co. won because of only two refs. The JC coach should have been "T" up for coming out on the guy ref. Not JC fault, good win for the program and they have some good players, first time seeing them. Good luck to both teams, will be a good girls region also....wide open.

Glad you said it, because I was just getting ready to say the same thing. Tommy is a good guy but far from the top. Give him time but the time is not now.

Amen!!! You know that if you go to a game and the coach acts up it gets the fans to act up. If you have two coaches and they are just coaching and not acting like a fool it is kind of a boring game. Coaches make the crowd what it is, good or bad, with the exception of #10's mom who dosen't know a thing about basketball. Thats what makes High School basketball fun though, the characters in the stands and sometimes the officials.

Sure the guys doing it now would love to be payed more but I don't think it would improve the quality of refs. It would just make more people want to do it because of the money. In KY most refs don't do it for the money, if that was the case no one would do it, you don't make that much. I don't care if you give them 100.00 a game it won't make a dif because as long as you have us (parents and coaches) they will still stink in most peoples eyes.

Estep is the one from london I was talking about I think. He does a good job, someone said he was doing some college games too. Not sure who Yanky is, is he tall and brown headed? Think I saw him at a North when they played Perry Co. Central last week on wazoo. He does a ok job.

Thought we were talking about good refs and not what kind of people they are. Mr. Woods is a great and funny guy but can't get up an down the floor like most of the 13th region guys and girls.
