wideopen Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Is this going to be the first game on the schedule for these two teams.
CabinOnTheHill Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 What I'm hearing, is that Hazard hasn't contact them yet.
footballhd Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Will be a interesting game with Coach Larkey.
ANYTHINGGOES Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Will be a interesting game with Coach Larkey. I don't think coach Larkey will make a difference in this one. Hazard is not losing anyone on offence and just a few if any on defense. Give Larkey atleast one year before they become respectable, not a lot of talent even with three schools coming together, all the good players are graduating.
HDE Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 all the good players are graduating. No they aren't. These guys are back: Simmons Green Roberts Ison Gilliam Polson Blanton Clark Ball Bargo Burgan Stewart Smith Calton Short McKnight Robbins
ANYTHINGGOES Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 No they aren't. These guys are back: Simmons Green Roberts Ison Gilliam Polson Blanton Clark Ball Bargo Burgan Stewart Smith Calton Short McKnight Robbins You are right, I think I was thinking of basketball more than football. Larkey will get everything out of all 110 kids I'm sure. Wish him and the kids the best of luck. The big question is will all of them go to the new school. Do you think some will go to Harlan City, bell Letcher and Lee VA. Just something to think about. Larkey sure makes it a better place to go but you know how some people are thinking more than I do.
HDE Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Unless the rules change, they won't be eligible unless they move. As for Letcher, Bell and Lee, why would you go to an older consolidated school to get away from a new consolidated school? The basketball team does lose some good ones, but they are quite a few good young players coming back, plus Caldwell should be healthy for his senior season to provide some leadership as a four-year starter.

Harlan City could get a few. Letcher, some already live there in the county and went to Cumberland. Not so sure if any will cross the mountain but a possibility. As for Bell I don't see any comming here right off, if a parent gets mad or scared maybe, but I don't see it.
freshstart Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 What I'm hearing, is that Hazard hasn't contact them yet. Hazard has decided to not play. They accepted an invitation in a bowl game at Lex Catholic.

wideopen Posted February 15, 2008 Author Posted February 15, 2008 Why would kids go to Harlan City or Letcher Central?
lungbuster Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Why would kids go to Harlan City or Letcher Central? You just never know what kids or parents will do until its time. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds. However, I don't think they will be much changing and for the most part things will unfold as they should. As for kids already in the 9th grade the rules will not allow them to change schools or they will face the normal penalty. As far as the 8th graders I think in the end they will end up at the new school because it is the obvious choice. Now they will be the exception every now and again and I am sure in 08 it will not be any different. Why you ask wideopen? Well they are several reasons and most all are wrong. In the world we live in today both parents and kids are looking for the easy way out and for what they can get right now! Kids will look down the road and think I can play or start varsity right now and I am wanting to average 30 a game or carry it 40 a game and thats all that is important. The ones who go down the road for the most part are the ones who are more concerned with number 1 instead of the team. Basically, kids have two choices here in this county. 1. Go to the new high school and work to get better and be a part of a team that has a chance to do great things and be able to compete with teams outside of these walls. Which will take something that reguires hard work. Or number 2. go down the road show up and start and score 40 a game having a losing record but get individual awards. I might of overstated just a little but you get the point!
AnswertheBell Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 I agree lungbuster, some may do this. HDE transportation may become a issue for those in Letcher, Cumberland is a lot closer than the new school. Buses will not be traveling in Letcher for Harlan, however of course they will take them to Letcher.

AnswertheBell I see what you are saying but the Students from the Cumberland area are going to be better off than any other area of Harlan County. The Cumberland road is by far the best road we have in this County. It is basically a straight shot at least from the New School to Cumberland High School. Probably 20 minutes or less. I don't think travel is going to be as big a deal as people let on. Cawood students will still have the longest bus ride as they have done since 1966. I am thinking it will all work out.
