Just a thought maybe the younger grade girls have more talent thatn the upper class girls and this might have been done for the girls to decide if they want to stick it out or just give it up. Some coaches have a hard time cutting players and this might be her approach. Not saying she does . Just a thought !

Doubt that all the good upper grade girls didn't come back. Brossart I hear has a new coach this year. I bet he Montgomery, Clark and even Silver Grove doesn't use a numbering system.:scared:

I totally agree with you camelbump. It is a point system that is set up for failure right from the start. My daughter goes to Notre Dame and believe me, there is enough drama that goes on, on our team, but the coach does not look to start any. Like I said earlier in the season, we played the Camels 2 times last year and beat them twice. We weren't a very good team at that. If I were the Camels, I would be totally humiliated, that is a huge school! Maybe that is why the Shakelford girl left the team:idunno: I know when they brought her in to pitch against us, we only scored 1 run off of her. Maybe she didn't have a low number on their point system, maybe that's why she didn't start?? It's just kind of confusing why the coach would want to start up a bunch of drama before the season even gets started:cry: I'm excited about our team this year, and unfortunately we are going to play against the Shakelford girl on Brossart.:cry:

Thats great to hear for the Shakelford girl and glad she is doing well. Not good for us, we had a hard time hitting her well. She was very good at not throwing the same pitch twice. I also remember she took one to the fence on us at Campbell:eek:

Sandi Kitchen is a good coach and a good person. I'm sure she has a reason for this numbering system and that it will benefit everyone in the long run if given a chance. I hope you do not have the same attitude when talking to your daughter or she will never seek to improve. Girls especially, need all the encouragement they can get! My advice to your daughter, for what it's worth, is to go talk to Coach Kitchen about the numbering system, what it means and how she can work to become a better player. I also know Sandi Kitchen and seems to be a preety laid back person. I know she is very competitve, and that is good for the lady Camels, but maybe the head coach job has went to her head? Hopefully she can repair anything she has done the to team if any. Good luck the Camels

I'm sure every coach has there own way of sending messages to there players. Not sure this will work out or not time will tell. BUT especially with girls team chemistry is half the battle , To me this wont help. Seems like alot of smoke in the air this early in the season !! When they havnt even played a game yet. It could be a long year for the Camel program !

How often to these numbers get updated? Hard to make significant moves up once the season starts and games are played?

Golf could be seen as using a numbering system as your players are 1-5. You want to play as #1, shoot a lower score than them.

 

Let's say your daughter plays 2b and the starting 2b is a few spots above her. She now knows who and how far she has to go to get that starting 2b spot.

 

Key is talking with coach and find out from the coach what she needs to do that.

 

If daughter wont do that, then it falls on her.

I don't like the numbering system but if they have one I would have my daughter work as hard as she can to be as close to number 1 as possible. If she can get close to that #1 it probably wont be as big of a problem to you.

Of course every parent / player would want to be #1. but if your number 17 out of 21 and your a junior and lets say 12 of them are under classman then basically your coach is telling them your not going to play. Thats the only reason I see why to do a numbering system. I said in an earliar reply I personaly think its to get upper classman to fold it up without having the coach to cut them. If your numbering 1 or 2 by position thats different but if your numbering 1 through 21 that doesnt make sense at all. Atleast I've never heard of that !!
