Also forgot to mention in my previous post (can't edit it on my phone), he decided not to coach this year because his wife is not in the best of health and he was staying with his daughter while his wife was in Texas. Also, I know nothing about how the point system worked but to me I would not point system the whole team but I would point system the positions.

If nothing else every player and parent know where the coach places everyone in the pecking order.

TY Porky. Why did the last Coach go back to Texas. Wasn't he a good expereinced coach? I always thought Kitchen was a volleyball coach. My daughter said they have a lot of 8th garders maybe some starting varsity. She said some of the top players like maybe the Grays aren't playing. Maybe I should be happy since my kid will play more but I like winning. We are in the same district as Brossart and they even have our best pitcher now they may smoke us. :isurrender:

Yeh but this is a team game a few didn't get a number how does that help a girl's self esteem. I have all girls try living with that

My ole High School Uniform number was 58 maybe the coach was trying to tell me something secretly lol

OMG you people kill me. Ok so I have no idea if this is what this coach is doing, but heres something to think about.....

 

Perhaps, they are using a # system to put them in groups/individual drills and such. Example: you have 30 kids come out for basketball team and you give each kid a number. you give the returning memebers from last years team numbers 1-10 for arguements sake. You give another group of kids who are say not as good 11-20, and another group 21-30. Say you do a layup drill with group with 1-10, while another coach does foul shots with 11-20, and another coach does dribbling drills with 21-30 and the groups rotate. Now as stated above group 1-10 is your returnes or better players per say, obviously they seem on the surface to have more skill/experience and can do more in drills than kids 21-30. In putting kids in theses groups you can see a fewer of the less talented kids perhaps stand out above some others , that would not if they were with the more experience group. (Hence perhaps why the good pitcher got #1).

 

Again, I dont know this coach or anything about softball. But yes, I have seen the number system used in other sports.

To say Brossart has our best pitcher is simply not true. Just because someone can throw hard(er) does not mean she is good. A pitcher has to be able to hit her spots, setup hitters and have a good defense behind her. I would have to say the defense from last year did not help the Carroll kid.

 

Also, you can say at least a kid knows where they stand, but maybe at the END of the season do you tell these kids where they stand so they have something to work for.

Wow, I am kind of surprised at this then. I know her and she was a very good athlete. I believe she was a two sport athlete at NKU, perhaps volleyball and basketball. I believe she also played softball but not sure she has any experience playing fastpitch. She should do a very good job with the Camels but I am still confused on the numbering system.

Everyone has an opinion but the Shackelhard girl looked a lot better in summer ball and is a year younger so I'd disagree. I doubt our defense will be better at Campbell too this year with everyone graduating and quitting. We will miss Griffin and a bunch of them. She'll get good coaching at Brossart too. My daughter told me there were just rated as how good they are. The Carroll girl was number 1. I think and my daughter was pretty low. I don't care about that I just hope she is judged by her ability. She has always started on some good rec teams etc. The number thing is weird. I might be the 12th best overall number but be the only catcher etc. I know my daughter wasn't told how to improve she just came home crying. I encouraged her to stick it out.

That makes sense. I would bet the numbering system is just the numbers that represent the positions on the field. Just my guess though.

I've heard of the boys basketball team doing something similar to this. It lets them know where they stand and who they need to get better then? They can also see this in practice when the a team scrimmages the B team and the C team watches. For softball is seems even crazier, the position situation is even more extreme?

No it's every player listed like 1-30 it's not by position. It's like voting for Most Valuable Player

First let me say I hope she does do a good job. BUT why are schools hiring coaches with no exp. for fastpitch it doesn't fly for other sports why can they get away with it for softball.
