NewCath / Brossart "feeder parish" Debate

Featured Replies

I can totally understand choosing NCC over BBHS if I'm a parent at St. Joe. Who wants to drive so far south all the time? Especially if you work north which more people probably do. They probably should be an NCC feeder.

Then just make it open to both Schools then it will be even.

Does anyone know the #s from St. Joe's recent 8th grade classes? How many choose NCC? How many choose BBHS? How many choose CCHS? Just wondering...

I know one is going to Caketown...

Actually St Joe's Cold Spring is practically equidistant between NCC and Brossart .

Based on this and everything I have read and heard then it should probably be a "swing" school or feeder school for both NCC and Brossart. That would make the most sense.

Way too much "Taxing" for you my friend. LOL!!!!

It basically already is. We (Brossart) understand the family ties etc., that exist at St. Joe. As is, St. Joe is pretty much a neutral venue. St. Joe is pretty much, well St. Joe. There is very little Brossart visibility there, and we do little or nothing to promote ourselves on a regular basis to the Bluejays. As is, some years the majority of Bluejays go to NCC and then in other years the majority come to Brossart.

If I were king of the world, we would have Brossart signage in the gym, as CovCath does in their feeders. There would be a Brossart related announcement made there everyday, and lots of Brossart visibiltiy. Pick up a St. Joe church bulletin someday, and without knowing, tell me if St. Joe is a Brossart or NCC feeder. If the day ever comes where St. Joe's would be designated an NCC feeder, the KEEP OUT signs would come out towards Brossart entities the next day, and there would be so much inundation of Blue-Gold influences that St. Joe would basically become an NCC junior high, which would make the Brossart affiliated students there outsiders. In other words, while it isn't a perfect system as is, it beats the alternative. But also with that being said, it is still a Brossart feeder, and NCC is not permitted to openly promote themselves within their walls.

Our problem is much more keeping NCC and NCC influences out of St. Mary which any reasonable person should concede should be a strictly Brossart feeder, and setting up a sane method for grade schoolers who attend a Brossart feeder with NCC ties, to justifiably be able to do so without going through the hypocricy of joining St. Therese or St. Thomas parish.

It is easy for folks to say that the entire district should be "open" enrollment, but as many others have already cited on here, it would be all win-win for NCC (who has a committed feeder system) and lose-lose for Brossart where it would be open season on our kids.

Same could be said about St. Phillips. The parents of the two girls on the NewCath freshman team specifically said, "not one person from Brossart softball informed the school or parents about playing for the 'Stangs. That falls back on the AD and/or the coaches.

Bottomline....in the end parents send their kids to the high school that they think will provide them the best oppourtunity both academically and/or athletically.

Mustang, I will get back to you on your PM later. But I will say for public record, there is no one who promotes Bishop Brossart High School with more passion than you. You are truly a credit to the school.:thumb:

Yes, it's no fun being the lone "man on an island"

How much Brossart signage do you have in St. Mary's gym now? ZERO. The blue and gold colors they sport certainly look nice though; that's about the only NCC influence I've ever seen at St. Mary in the 15 years I've been there.

Exactly my point. We do not do a good job of promoting ourselves to our grade school feeders.

Didn't Brossart use to be ST Mary's High ?
