To me there needs to be some guide lines set to keep these feeder schools to a certain High School. If a player is going to St. Marys but will be attending CCHS thats fine but if you allow them to play for CCHS while their in grade school then your opening up a full recruiting mess , Then BBHS and NCC would be able to recruit kids from the public schools as well.NOW THAT WOULD BE SILLY !!! I feel like if a parent knows there kid will be going to a specific high school then put them in the proper grade school so if they have the chance to play up then so be it. Why try and trick the system when there's a right way to do this. But again if everybody did the right thing we wouldnt be having this conversation would we. Also I asked in my last post if anyone knew if BBHS goes after kids in NCC feeder schools with no response I take it as a NO.

Who in the hell from Bellevue, Dayton, Newport, Ft. Thomas, or Southgate is going to drive all the way out to Brossart..........NO ONE.

That proposal did fail. Some proposals that are passed even have to go thru four steps and are ultimately vetoed or stopped later. The Delegate Assembly passes it, then it goes to the Board of Control, then the State Board of Education and then finally the Legislative Committee to make sure it is legal. Any of those can stop a proposal. The policy at BBHS for kids playing up on any of the high school teams includes a provision that states they MUST be on a direct feeder school to Brossart. So, no one other than kids at St. Joseph (Cold Spring), St. Joseph (Camp Springs), St. Philip, Sts. Peter @ Paul, or St. Mary are allowed to play up at the school. Hopoe that clears up those items

You would be surprised what parents would do to give there kid the opportunity to play up at another high school if asked. But BGH just said that BBHS doesnt allow it. I think their doing the right thing since thats THEIR policy !!! SInce I dont have any dogs in the fight here it sounds to me NCC is the one pushing the envelope . IMO

St. Therese and St. Thomas are like the underground railroad to NCC. Fill out a few papers and viola! You are now cleared to play at NCC. You now cite two 7thgraders from St. Philip filling out some paperwork and getting a free pass to NCC. Terriffic, I suggest St. Philip show them the door and parcel them off to St. Thomas. You are either with us or against us - don't ride the fence!

The on-going problem is that NCC wants what is theirs and what is everybody else's, and promotes the "we are all one big happy school district" theory - come on down!

It is not silly - it is Open Season on kids from Brossart's district feeder schools!!!

Kids attending the NCC feeders are not attracted to Brossart because everything they do in life is from Fort Thomas-Southgate north. We are simply not a viable alternative to them.

I would entertain a waiver system, whereby Brossart could waive a student/athlete from our feeder grade school to participate in NCC athletics, if given good reason and evidence that the student is affiliated, through relationship or intent with NCC and plan on attending there for high school.

Ie, Drew MacDonald, while he was at St. Joe, Cold Spring playing golf at NCC. I would think we would have gladly given permission for him to play for the Breds with his mom on the staff and their families ties to NCC. Instead they too took the underground railroad through St. Therese which made everything OK. I hold no animosity towards Drew or the MacDonalds (Actually I'm a big fan) - just citing a fact.

Until a member of the Brossart administration drives up onto the hill, walks into Noll's office, takes his shoe off and slams it onto his desk and demands that they stay out of Brossart feeders, the hypocrisy will continue and Brossart feeders will continue to be pillaged, with NCC laughing all of the way to the enrollment office.

These two will be going to NewCath anyway so way cry foul about it.

NewCath only wants those that want to attend NewCath.

This issue goes back about 6 or 7 years ago when Brossart was taking 8th graders for athletics, a parent from St.Joe's called MEL WEBSTER and asked if their daughter could play softball, they were told YES, but then the parents told Mel that they wanted to make it clear that their daughter would be attending NEWCATH for high school and suddenly the answer was NO. So know kids in those "feeder" schools that are going to NewCath have no other choice but to play the system so to speak. Brossart and Mel have no one to blame but themselves for this. Currently there are 2 girls from St. Therese on the NewCath freshman team that will be attending Highlands for high school and they are more than welcomed to play, they weren't told NO.

By the way, all the kids on the freshman team that are from St.Joe's and St. Phillips ALL have a "legacy" to NewCath, either a the parents or brothers or sisters are alum and were going to attend NewCath anyway.

Except when they tell you they are going to NEWCATH for high school.

That is not true, I know for a fact that a girl from ST signed up for Softball at NCC, she told the coach she was going to Brossart and the Coach said she still could play for NCC but why don't you call the Brossart Coach he is a great guy and play for them so she could get a head start.

This started a few years back a Mom called Brossart to ask if her child could play on the Freshman team she was a 7th grader at St Joe's, and they said yes, when the mom told them she will be going to NCC she was told No she could not.

This is true. An 8th grader from St. Therese signed up to play freshman fastpitch at NewCath. She decided not to play because she plans to attend Brossart next year. The freshman coach was still okay with her playing but told her mom that if she didn't feel right playing for NewCath, that Brossart has a really good program and coach and he recommended they contact Brossart to see if she could play for them. She is going to be attending Brossart anyway so why not let her play. We are really not talking about playing up but just junior high kids playing on the freshman team which is normal since there are no junior high school teams.

Well, at least for 8th graders, they take the HS entrance exam, usually at the high school they plan to attend for more "academic scholarship" money. They are notified of their scores and acceptance in January and then are asked to register and pay a registration fee and schedule classes for their freshman year. If an 8th grader, regardless of their grade school, jumps through these hoops and makes a monetary commitment to the high school they are choosing to attend, then there should not be a problem. At this point, it should be obvious of their HS selection and they should be allowed to play softball as this all happens prior to the beginning of the spring school season.

If there are high schools that have knowledge a 7th and/or 8th grader is planning to attend another high school, but still allow them to play sports at their school during those 2 years, then shame on them. My question is why they don't just go play at the high school they want to attend? There are NO DISTRICT FEEDER PARISHES as of a few years ago!!!!!!! Your current parish does not dictate where you have to attend high school and the tuition is the same for everyone - there is no out of district tuition and/or requirements anymore. Once people accept this, then all these points, arguments and the SILLINESS goes away.

No dog in this fight either - BBHS should be commended for having rules and sticking to them. NCC, it's parishes, and parents, may not be breaking rules, but they sure are bending them and going against the spirit of them. How nice it must be to stroll into St. Therese and tell a bold face lie by saying I'd like to join the parish, and then never attend, volunteer, or do anything else other than to use it as an "underground RR" to NCC. Says a lot about the people NCC is attracting. The parents all know what school feeds where - send your kids to the right school in the first place and follow the dang rules. And someone high up needs to enforce them. It's a loophole that needs to be closed.

I believe St. Therese grade school also is the only parish school on an endowment plan where there is no tuition because the parish members cover the costs of the school - basically "adopt" a family. That way all their monetary contributions are tax deductible vs. tuition which is not.

REALLY????? These parents are going to be sending thier children to NewCath no matter what, so if this is the way around having them participating for the high school they will be attending why not do it. Newcath has ZERO problem with kids that are in thier so called "feeder" schools playing for Brossart, in fact they encourage them to. However Brossart has a HUGE problem with it, these kids were NEVER going to attend Brossart so why are THEY always crying about it.

As a matter of fact an 8th grader at Holy Trinity in Newport, who was one of the better players on the freshman team last year, informed the coaches that she was going to Notre Dame for high school. They told her she could play, but if she would like to tryout for Notre Dame's freshman team this year they had no problem with it, SINCE THAT'S WERE SHE IS GOING TO H.S.. She is now playing for ND and Newcath is not crying one bit.

Wrong again! Notre Dame does not have a freshman team this year.
