Highlands 57 Dayton 53

Blind draw....Highlands, Bellevue, Dayton, Newport Central Catholic, and Newport

Thanks. If they were seeded how would it have turned out this year? I am assuming Highlands plays Bellevue and NCC plays Newport on Wednesday.

Well Highlands would have been a three seed at best (losing to Newport and NCC) and did not play Dayton this year. Based on last night's game they could have been a four seed if they would have lost to Dayton in the regular season.

Best guess considering everyone did not play each other is the seeds:

NCC

Newport

Highlands

Dayton

Bellevue

Hate to say this but maybe Highlands should stick to the "luck of the draw." They got the lucky draw staying away from Newport and NCC this year.

You seem to have a lot to say about Highlands for someone That doesn't seem to have any connection to the school, or maybe you do? What's wring buddy did Highlands hurt you in some way back in the day and you never got over it? Out of your 166 posts is bet 1/3rd have Highlands in them. LOL

Come to a game and then offer insight since you seem to have it all figured out.

As far as the reluctance to shoot, well They started the season with a run and gun style and tossed it out after 6 games. IMO it allowed many kids a lot of freedom and They played loose. Since then there has been a lot of looking over their shoulder and lack of aggressiveness offensively.

...looking over your shoulder to see if you are going to get pulled?

Big reason why so many kids won't take more risks and think outside of their designated "position".

First time I have seen it mentioned here. :thumb:

I have been to several games and speak the truth as I see it. Am I not allowed to have a Highlands opinion or is that reserved only for those that live in Ft. Thomas? I stand by what I say about the basketbnall program and team in general.

And what is that you say about the program and team in general. Just curious to hear what someone from the outside has to say about "What is wrong with Highlands basketball"

Curious to know if it was a clean game? Saw some chatter about a lot of technicals during the season? Congrats to Highlands for hanging on to win and hats off to Dayton for playing hard and not giving up.

No issues whatsoever in the game. Both teams played hard to the very end.

I guess Newport is a higher seed than Highlands since they beat the Birds by 2 points in the regular season. However, if those two were meeting in the districts, my pick to win would be Highlands despite the records.

Highlands should not be taken down to the wire by Dayton. plain and simple. Doesnt matter how many replies someone has about Highlands. No excuses.

I do not say "what is wrong with Highlands basketball." I can say this team that I have seen play cannot handle pressure very well, seems to be looking over their shoulder at times when they play and pass up good shots, inconsistent not only from game to game but quarter to quarter; seem to have big runs and give up big runs. Need more floor leadership and in the games I have seen shoot free throws poorly. I have read about the substitution patterns etc but do not address those things because I do not know over the course of thrity games what that has been.

Really? Another blanket statement in my opinion. Unfortunately the hoops program doesn't present the same dominance That the football team brings yearly. I don't think you are giving the Dayton kids much credit either. Four of their Sr starters have played Varsity since 8th grade and likely have started the past 3 yrs. Rogg ran the point well, Sparks is a nice player who can get to the rim. Schoultheis is aggressive and has a quick First step and Smith can shoot the 3 well. Outside of That the talent level is down but They had the Sr experience to keep them close. Do I honestly think the Birds should have put the dagger in them to start the 2nd half already up ten? Yes

But That is a tribute to the Dayton kids.

At the beginning of the 2nd half the possession was awarded to Dayton after what seemed like a lengthy conference between the 3 officials. Although I wasn't watching it too closely, the HHS scorekeeper was emphatic that the ball should have been awarded to the Birds after halftime.

Of course, Dayton nails a trey to cut the lead to 7 and Birds only scored 7 in the 3rd and 11 in the 4th quarter, as alluded to by Qryche11. Although the possession arrow didn't cost the Birds the game, it certainly made a difference in the 2nd half attitude shown by the Dayton players.
