In fairness he does have an extensive NFL coaching resume: From 1996 to 1998, Schiano was an assistant coach in the NFL with the Chicago Bears. His turnaround at Rutgers cannot be ignored however. Rutgers was the armpit of college football. I always thought he should have taken a better job when he was regarded as the next great coach. He was a little overrated, but not terrible by any means. Not sure how that translates to the NFL. My guess is poorly, but who knows. What makes a good NFL coach goes well beyond understanding X's and O's and more about organizational efficiency.

According to Schefter it's a done deal.

I'm just saying before Schiano, Rutgers was garbage. They went like 30 plus games w/out a win. You can't judge him by his overall record alone.

The, Glazer run, Buc orginization is a disaster at public relations. The boys come off as being aloof. Their perceived treatment of the area, especially USF, since the completion of Raymond James Stadium has left the fan base cold. When you hold the city and county up for ransom, lest lose the team to another city, over charge for tickets to the stadium built for you by the fans, and then completely destroy the organization by firing a popular head coach and hiring a 32 year old to replace him, who appeared to be way out of his depth (note I really like Raheem Morris), the reaction is not that unreasonable.

 

BTW, I fully understand that the agreements for use of RJS is between the Glazers, the Tampa Sports Authority, and the Hillsborough County Commision and it is those agreements that deny revenue to the university. However, the perception exists that it is the Glazers taking it directly from USF and the Glazers appear not to care. Again, poor public relations in a town where public relations is crucial. You see, the TBA is Bandwagon USA. I understand that, too. It's too bad the Glazers don't.

Easy for someone not affiliated with the organization and not a fan of the organization to say, but I'm interested to see how this plays out. Miracles happen.

Not a good hire for an NFL coach IMO. I do believe that what he did at Rutgers was respectable though.

Had their best seasons with Ray Rice, but wasn't he the man who brought Rice to Rutgers? So no reason to act like it was all Rice, when it took him to get Rice there for Rice to help out. Not to mention the ability to find Rice shows something too, since I assume Rice was not that high of a recruit since he ended up there and not at a big school.

 

I don't agree with the hire, however he did a very good job at Rutgers. I think I seen a stat where he was 20 or so games above .500 after 2006. So since he got the program really going, he has done well. That is the win-loss record that needs to be looked at, not his overall. Since Rutgers was so bad when he took over.
