As much as the Giants deserved the win, the Packers beat themselves, the dropped passes, turnovers, and all the miscues you would have thought this team had no playoff experience.. Props to the Giants for executing though.

 

Absolutely agree. When they were not dropping passes Rodgers was throwing into space. However, the Giants were hosed on some calls also.

Wasn't trying to take anything away from NY. Yes drops are part of the game so are bad calls. The Giants really did nothing to stop GB, while GB did everything to stop themselves. If you don't see that then there isn't any point in arguing about it. Rodgers missed Jennings for a for sure TD, Jennings dropped a TD (tough catch yes), several drive killing drops on 3rd downs, missed open receivers on 3rd downs. All that said the Giants were the better team and deserved to win. Their offense was unstoppable on 3rd down and the Packers defense showed why they are ranked last in the league. I knew this would be shoot out going in, the problem is the Packers offense made too many misses against a good team. Couple that with so dumb play calls (the onside kick and going for it on 4th down) and you have the result we got.

Giants-SF game should be a great game to see. Looking forward to it. Not sure how I'm leaning right now, probably SF at home but for someone who usually pulls for the AFC, I'll be rooting for whoever comes out of the NFC.

You say "not to take anything away from the Giants" and "the Giants defense really did nothing to stop Green Bay" in the same post. Both together seem like a contradiction.

 

The Giants defense sacked Aaron Rodgers 4 times and consistently forced him to run or throw on the run. The giants defense played outstanding.

 

And yes, bad calls are part of the game just like drops. But one is a team/player making a mistake, while the other is an official making a mistake directly helping one team. The officials mistakes in this game were HUGE considering one of them gave the ball back to the Packers after the Giants defense forced (another example of how they stopped green bay, even though you say they did nothing) a fumble. And with that second chance, Green Bay scored a touchdown.

 

Then later on 3rd and 10 deep in their own territory, the officials call a horrible roughing penalty on Umenyiora giving green bay 15 yards and a new set of downs.

 

That's two mistakes that led to Green Bays only two touchdowns. If you can't see the difference between drops and atrocious calls, then there's most definitely no reason to continue this discussion.

Don't know. As I said in my last sentence I wouldn't be surprised either way. Par for the course. They don't make that call for Mike Vick either.

They kept touchdown drives alive but the defense didn't leave the field and failed to stop them after both of the horrendous calls. The blame of the refs falls on keeping the drive alive not the touchdowns.

I don't agree with your statement but there has always been a top tier of QB's who seem to be protected more than others. Peyton Manning, Brady, Rodgers and Brees are all in that category. Kind of like Jordan getting calls no other player would get. And no, it's not right. Or fair. On the other side of the coin there seems to be players who get flagged more based on reputation.

Not sure where you got your information but it's about a wash as 7 of the last 10 SB champs had offenses in the top ten, with another year finishing 12th. 7 of them had top 10 defenses. Stats from NFL.com
