Who is the Hathorn kid from Cooper? Don't remember him from middle school last year.

I have to throw Blake Losey and Jake Franzen from Campbell County again. They both start JV for the Camels and have seen varsity minutes as well.

Technically, yes. Would be on the young end of the sophomores this year. Not uncommon for kids with August/Sept birthdays.

The "hold back" term is used for any kid who is "older" than his grade. It's a fair discussion . A frosh one year older "can" have a big advantage physically over "some" of his competitors. It's also allowed so I have no issue with it.

 

For this young man in particular it certainly isn't an issue of academics . Top notch kid from all accounts.

I agree with Clyde in the sense that it could determine how much upside a kid may have from the frosh level. It does not matter by the time he is a Jr. or Sr.

I think this statement says it all. For about 99% of the "holdbacks" it isn't the kids decision, unless a kid has flunked.

 

In my case I was held back in kindergarden after moving into Kentucky from out of state...so it made sense to stay back one year. With a September birthday I was either going to be a Older kid in the class or Younger kid in the class. Athletically it probably helped me some but not enough to get me a D-1 scholarhsip.

I think that a couple of the kids on the list moved from Indiana long before middle school. In 2001/2002, when this group would have been in kindergarten, the Indiana cut-off date was June 1st.

To be eligible, you cannot turn 19 before August 1st PRIOR to your Senior year.

Not sure how you would gather this information. What if you get that answer that the kid could not read? Awkward...

Seems a bit odd to me that it's not worthy of discussion in this thread but had a great amount of relevance in just about every Zeke Pike thread. For those that don't think it's an advantage, I have some swamp land for sale in Alaska that I would like to show you.

People also RARLEY bring this up in regards to Brandon Hatton. People work to keep it very "hush,hush". As long as they are eligible, it's within the rules, whether people like it or not. In regards to Stanley, I dont believe he was a middle grade retainee.... Therefore, it doesnt really matter. As someone stated earlier, it's never up to the kid.
