Don't you find it a little telling that a "generic Republican" is leading Obama but no actual Republican candidate is beating him?

 

The way many Romney supporters make it, you'd think he was destined to beat Obama if only the GOP will nominate him. If nothing else, that seems to be the only reason I've heard for voting for him.

 

Romney has been ahead of Obama in some recent polls though. I would think that being this close to him with 10 months to go is pretty good as it's all going to come down to the last two months and will depend on the economy/unemployment. Romney is the only one who can win if the numbers stay where they are. I think what's very telling is the weakness Obama is showing as a sitting president.

At this point "none of the above". I am concerned about Obama being re-elected and the Democrats regaining the house and senate. I don't think both will happen though.

He's the only one with a realistic chance. That's not me overhyping anything, it's simply a fact. Anyone else wins the Republican nomination and Obama wins by a record margin IMO.

 

As I've said on here before, the election will come down to a group of 8-10 states (Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, PA, Wisconsin, Missouri, Colorado, Virginia, & North Carolina). Romney is the best equipped to winning the states from that group that will be necessary to defeat Obama.

 

I do agree that if the economy and unemployment improve between now and election time, it won't matter.

That's basicly what I've posted as well. I just don't see Obama carrying Ohio, Indiana, Florida, North Carolina, and several more that he won last time. This race will be extremely close in the electoral college.

Romney is one of those guys that will always struggle to win his party's nomination IMO, but if he can somehow do so, he's the type that could really flourish in the general election because he can appeal to some of the disappointed voters from the left and the independents. At least that's my take. :idunno:

Exactly, I'm not talking about you and I. I'm speaking in terms of the general public, and religious affiliation is most definitely a factor for the general public. Especially for the evangelicals, born-agains, etc that make up a decent chunk of the GOP voting block.

Romney had a liberal legislator in MA. He got quite a few things accomplished. He knows how to reach across the aisle. IMO that is something we need in a leader. He knows how an economy works. He has the most comprehensive plan out of any candidate. Have you read it? It covers every aspect of the economy. He knows how to attract businesses and jobs.

I have a HUGE list on why I'm not voting for Romney. Starting with, we don't see eye-to-eye on any issues. For the record I am only voting for Obama if I think some nut case like Santorum actually has a shot (and Kentucky is close). My vote is 99% headed towards Gary Johnson.

In this particular GOP field, I would wholeheartedly agree that Romney has the most upside for a General Election.

That's a valid point, however I feel his time as governor was more focused on fixing (or ruining in his case) the health care system in MA. If I'm not mistaken, the economy wasn't in the shape it is now, when he was in office there. I liken fixing the economy to running a company. He worked for management consulting companies that constantly took companies in financial disarray and turned them around. He has the knowledge it takes to put the country on the right path in that regard.

 

Now don't get me wrong, if the economy wasn't the major issue, Romney would not be a candidate I would consider supporting. Since it is the #1 issue, I feel he's the most qualified (from either side of the aisle) to handle it. JMO.

How is losing jobs a fix to this economy? He did save some companies and make them stronger, much like Obama did with GM (I think they are number 1 this year aren't they?)

Now how can you say there was a net job loss? If the companies were struggling can you say for sure that those jobs would have been around? If so, for how long? How were the assets that were sold used? Did those sold assets play a part in creating new jobs? How many? You and I helped save GM. The difference is that Obama used my money and Romney didn't.
