I heard on the radio this morning that Romney's approval rating with voters is lower than Obama's. That surprised me.

Fair enough. So I guess it's fair to ask how anyone can consider themselves libertarian if they are voting for Romney? Isn't that what you first questioned me about in regards to Obama?

 

The strongest belief of a libertarian is that you regard individual liberty as one of the most, if not the most important important factor of life. That is the main difference in ideologies. I already stated that Obama would prefer social equality over individuality. I was always under the impression that libertarians were fiscally conservative or at least they leaned that way. Ron Paul and Mitt Romney's plans have the same basic fundamentals. Low taxes, more power to the states, reduce spending, reforming entitlement and means tested programs. So I don't think it would be too out there for someone like yourself to vote for Romney. It would be if you voted for Obama. JMO.

Instead of trying to use it to their advantage (as Rick Perry is trying to do), both Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul are defending Romney as having his comments taken out of context. :lol:

No, I'm saying if they're trying to win the nomination, they should let Romney clarify his own comments instead of doing it for him.

Republicans are more concerned with getting Obama out of office. He will lose few votes, if any, for being mormon. The majority of people have a far greater concern than your assessment.

 

We very well might see. I can see many that I know sitting this election out rather than vote for either, if indeed Romney is the nominee.

Why do you leave out civil liberties? Do you think Romney would be better in that regard? It seems conservatives a generally in favor of a strong and intrusive government on that side of the ledger. It would seem that it would be a coin flip between the two for a libertarian. Considering how rare it is for a candidate to actually implement what they campaigned on and how slippery Romney is I don't think fmkyw's position is the least bit outrageous.

If they (Paul & Gingrich) were asked about it and they believed the statement was taken out of context, then what do you want them to do? Lie to win the nomination?

On a personal note, I do not want Romney winning the Primary. I am a Paul supporter but to think Romney will lose the election based on evangicals not voting for him because he is Mormon is stupid. There are plenty of other factors that come in to play that could beat him but that one, specifically, is minor.
