Lets say Romney wins the GOP nomination without the support of the majority of evangelicals. In the general election, does Romney win back those votes over Obama? or are evangelicals willing to sit out and endure 4 more years of Obama?

Look at the polling data. Romney consistently underperforms with "born again" and evangelical voters. Santorum is said to be struggling in the South as well. Though he's the most obvious Christian candidate, he's also Catholic. Newt Gingrich outperforms both of them with evangelical voters. It's a legitimate concern.

 

As Habib says, according to the polling data-to-date Romney still has work to do with the groups I named. Plain and simple.

As a very conservative Christian, if the KY primary was held today, I would cast my ballot (without enthusiasm) for Newt Gingrich.
