Who would the DL from Manuel replace?

 

That is my point. I don't think he should replace anyone. I think that it should be broken down by classifications. The BluegrassPreps team is great but only a few of the top kids get mentioned (The BEST OF THE BEST). Which I think is wonderful but you also need something else to say great job to the awesome players from some of the single A schools in EKY or WKY who don't also get the love from the all state teams. As I am looking at it here, there are too many great players in our state now to only have a few kids that make first team. For example the running back from PRP (Wes Brown) only made Honorable Mention. Now I bet if you asked the coaches who have watched the kid play how good he is, they would agree that he might have D1 talent and speed. But he was in a district that included two of 1st team all state players. Now if you broke it down where it was only 4a kids he might be 1st team also or at least 2nd team. Another example is Paul Warford from Mad. Central. He is going to play D1 football but only made Honorable Mention.

I was glad to see McDermott from Holy Cross get recognized for 2nd team LB. Excellent player. I guess Bardstown's team was just an illusion this year. A 13-1 illusion. An 8 shutout defensive illusion. I think even the Mayfield folks would recognize that Bardstown LB Melvin Scott should be somewhere on this list. Then again, I am a small-school snob.

Congrats to all the kids who received this honor. They can always say, for the rest of their lives that they were an 'All State player'! :thumb:

Warford is a great talent, but didn't have the numbers many hoped he would have for a couple of reasons, 1. missed a few games due to injury and 2. got fewer carrys as much of the focus was on him so Letcher and Mathis split carries with Warford.

I think that we should take the CJ all state team and vote on it by classes. This would allow more kids to get named first team all state.

That's what Honorable Mention is for. We don't need to DILLUTE how special this accomplishment is.

That is what the AP or the Bluegrasspreps.com team is for.

Congratulations to Kasey Clark from Russell on being named 2nd team RB...This junior's stock certainly rose after his showing on the "big stage" at Papa John's...Well deserved!! :thumb:

They have Matt Sauerbeck listed as a Defensive End. Not a very accurate All State Team.

 

 

What position does he play? Notice that The CJ team is a 6-2-3 team! The DEs are basically OLBs in a 4-4-3! Just a thought?

Although I have similar sentiments towards these "all everything" teams, regardless of how it is done, everyone will never be pleased. Yes, Wes Brown is D-1 material with combination size and speed very easily could be considered for 1st or 2nd team. Rico Neal (Central) and Tim Horton (Manual) are hard to see as Honorable Mention but some mention/recognition is better than none at all. As is the case EVERY season there will be all the "what-abouts?" for as long as anyone wants to keep a thread going. Congratulations to the members of this All State team and any other all-area or state teams out there as well!

Surprise Emanual Taylor RB for Hoptown did not make the list. Ran for over 1,600 yards against good competiton (Alcoa, Male, Mayfield, Bowling Green, Christian County & Paducah). At 6'foot and 210 pounds runs a legit 4.5 forty, Emanual has more up-side than any other running back mention. Some of the Tigers staff felt if they would have gave him the ball instead of replacing him when they had big leads he would have made the the list. He only averaged 10 carries a game and did not play in 5 4 quarter games. Next year no more Mr. nice guys, look for ET the get around 2,500 yards. On a side note, ET started wrestling a couple of Tuesdays ago for the first time in his life, two weeks later he is 5-0 with all pins at the 218 pound weight class.
