I've had the opportunity to watch quite a bit of the 2 days games with some shockingly free time. Here are my observations.

 

From Christmas Day:

Lakers blew that one completely. They had it in the bag and poor free throw shooting is what did them in, Gasol was not himself at the line for sure.

 

The Heat looked good, Dallas will be fine when all the pieces start to fit together. I personally would like to see Vince Carter waived because I have no confidence in him at all, but I don't see that happening. I think JJ Berea was a big loss, not just Chandler, but Odom will be better than what he has been thus far.

 

OKC is very solid, I like thier team overall with Perkins and Ibaka in the middle.

 

Orlando I don't think will be a contender, too much drama.

 

LAC will be fun to watch, I know that isn't news. I like the Paul/Billups combo more than some others I've heard being negative about it.

 

From last night:

Direct TV has free NBA league pass so I watched parts of lots of games.

 

Washington came out strong, got a 20 point lead on the Nets and then failed to play the rest of the game. Blatche is a joke in my personal opinion, and if he is the team captain that says a lot about where they are heading.

 

The Nets are not good. No Lopez and Petro starting.....yuck.

 

Minnesotta will win some games, maybe more than people are expecting. I loved what I saw from them against OKC. Now I know it was a back to back for OKC but Minny gave them all they wanted. My main concern for them is the Kansas St. alum whose name is escaping me. He takes some bad shots but has extremely high talent. Berea adds a winners mentality to that team and it shows.

 

The Warriors will be solid but not great. They did seem to play better D against Chicago than they are noted for, maybe Mark Jackson will make a difference.

 

Those are games I got to watch significant portions of.

Speaking of KG's attempted choke slam.....no discipline from the league. I think it is shocking. I guess Bynum should have just attempted to choke JJ Barea and he'd be playing.

 

I thought he would get a game suspension at least.

Are the Clippers a contender in the West? I think they may be.

Memphis is interesting to me. If they can fit Gay into what they did last year they'lll be right there in the West. Yesterday was not promising though.

Spurs are a sleeper to me.

Dallas is done, but they are building for a possible DHoward signing IMO.

Does Hamilton make the Bulls better? I don't see it.

OKC is good, I don't like how they have to close games though. Kind of reminds me of Cleveland standing around and watching LBJ.

Chris Bosh might play his way out of town.

If Melo plays the way he has in the preseason and 1st game they have a shot in the East IMO. Can be a ball-stopper though.

Why? I like him and hope he does well.

Cousins looked normal in the first half and like an All Star in the second half last night. Kings are probably my new favorite team to watch because they're exciting, they hustle and they just play basketball. Chuck Hayes was a great addition to their chemistry and leadership. Donte Green has one of the best personalities in the league.

 

The Nuggets are playing really good basketball as well but things aren't looking good for Kenneth Faried this season. They led by 20-30 all game last night and Faried didn't play at all.

Why? I like him and hope he does well.

 

I didn't care for his repetition as an announcer..
