December 28, 201114 yr No he didn't. He is going to make more money this way simple as that. He wouldn't have do it if he wasn't. I'm with HT. This was not an act of benevolence by Mike Brown. This was to not be embarrassed nationally and it was to help the environment for the team. It also helps the bottom line for the Brown family.

December 28, 201114 yr No he didn't. He is going to make more money this way simple as that. He wouldn't have do it if he wasn't. Then you would think he would have done it for the other games to then correct? Especially since he would be making money for it right? I mean if anything it would have made more sense to do for the Cardinals game than this. You would have had a big chunk of Ravens fans here if he didn't do that, and probably would have been close to a sell with the Ravens fans coming and more Bengal fans would have come because of what was at stake. So this is a game that would have sold out or came close to it. So he would have sold a lot of tickets anyways, and made lots of money off of it and would not have had to give free tickets out. Not to mention he wouldn't have had to pay money like he is having to do by giving out free tickets. Every free ticket he gives out, he is losing money for that ticket, and is also having to pay 30% on it too. Your argument would be more valid if it was a game that wouldn't have came close to selling out. This one would have been like the Steelers game, even without him doing that. Doing this will have more Bengal fans in the stands though.
December 28, 201114 yr I'm with HT. This was not an act of benevolence by Mike Brown. This was to not be embarrassed nationally and it was to help the environment for the team. It also helps the bottom line for the Brown family. The thing is even if you all are right, because no one really knows what he was really thinking about it. Why still complain about it? People talked about how Mike Brown doesn't do anything to make Bengal fans want to come to games, yet he does it here and still complain? I didn't hear people complaining or saying it was for selfish reasons when the Reds owner does many things during the season. Never hear it when they do bobble head doll days that sell out the stadiums, or when they did dollar hot dog days to help get people there. People talked about how good of a thing it was for the owner to do things like that to get people to want to come to the ballpark. For once Mike Brown does it, and yet people call him selfish? I mean its the same reasons why the Reds owner did it and that was to make money and get people to the stadium. I understand everyones frustration with Mike Brown, however guys your now giving him crap for things that an owner in the Reds use to do to get people in the stadium too. Should be happy for once, he is doing something that could actually help out the team. In the process it is saving people some money too with the tickets.

It also helps the bottom line for the Brown family. I'm with both of you. To think Baltimore fans were loading up on tickets the week of the game to travel to a game when they are guaranteed at least one more game this year with the possibility of that game being at home is comical. Most folks I'd guess well over 98% that travel to an NFL regular season game purchase their tickets more than a week in advance.

Most folks I'd guess well over 98% that travel to an NFL regular season game purchase their tickets more than a week in advance. Not the Steelers game. That game had more Bengal fans buy them than normal because it was Steeler week, and a lot of Steeler fans ended up buying tickets that week. I know that because I bought tickets to that game, and was an idiot and waited two days to buy them. I looked the sunday before after the game ended, and there were plenty of seats available. Then two days later most of the seats were gone and got stuck up top. Which happened to be filled with basically all Steeler fans. The Ravens this week are playing for a Division title, a first round by and possibly home field advantage. Big difference between being a 1,2 or a 5 seed. So this is a game where Ravens fans would have been at, because if they lost they probably wouldn't have gotten another home game this year.
December 28, 201114 yr I will just say this and be done. I said this two weeks ago after the Texans game, when people were saying the playoff hopes were now gone. I said if the Bengals make the playoffs, which I said they still had a good shot to do. Then that shows they were a good team, however if they don't make the playoffs. I will admit that they were just an average team. If they make the playoffs there is no reason for anyone to say they were an average team. Just like there is no reason why I should say they were a good team if they don't make it.
December 28, 201114 yr Using your logic than basically every team in the AFC this year is overrated. New England lost a game to that average QB in Buffalo, and New England and Jets get to play that average QB and a backup for Dolphins twice a year. Every team in the AFC South is overrated, included the Texans even before the injuries because they played the Jags with a rookie QB twice a year, Colts with a backup, and Tennessee with Hassellback who you already talked about. Pitt and Baltimore played the same schedule as the Bengals, and you could include having to play another rookie twice a year in Dalton. Then the AFC West. Since we are talking about backup QB's, a team with a backup QB won 6 straight in Denver with Tebow. A team in the Chiefs who are playing with a backup QB, and beaten the Packers. A team in the Chargers who have lost to a backup in Denver, and a QB who was sitting on his couch for the first 6 weeks of the season. Your whole argument about the QB's they have played is off base, considering basically every team in the AFC this year has been going against bad QB's as you say in the AFC. The only difference is the Bengals still were able to beat those teams, while the other teams lost to them. Not to mention the Bengals have been able to do this with a rookie QB of their own, using your arguments teams should have been able to beat the Bengals then. Want to give it another shot? Once again name the 5 best QB's they've faced. Since you're afraid to do that and you mumble on for thousands of words I'll give it a shot: Ben R twice Flacco Hasselbeck Fitzpatrick Alex Smith... The next two would be backups Skelton and Yates. Seriously. Look it up. In contrast the NYJ have faced: Brady twice Rivers Romo E. Manning Vick....the next best is Flacco. If that doesn't make a difference in your eyes I'm done talking football with you.

So this is a game where Ravens fans would have been at, because if they lost they probably wouldn't have gotten another home game this year. I guarantee you that there aren't a ton of fans that decided this week they are coming from Baltimore. The great majority of fans travelling in for the game made that decision prior to Mike Brown offering BOGO.

You mean 19 interception or whatever it is Rivers? Or you mean Romo the guy who basically single handily decided to give the game to the Jets the first game of the year? Eli Manning who completed only 9 passes that day against them, yet the Jets still lost? An Eagles team who underacheived all year long, and guess what lost to a backup QB against the Cardinals? Tom Brady is Tom Brady, and twice a year is very tough. Bengals play Big Ben twice a year, and top 5 and top 10 defenses a lot of the year too? I admit overall they played a couple more better QB's though. Basically your whole thing though is since they played weak QB's, just like basically every team in the AFC has this year. Since the AFC is not that strong at QB this year, that shows that they are just average? Yet apparently you think the Jets are good? You also admit the Bengals beat the teams they should, but lost to the top teams. Well guess what the Jets are not a top team. So the Jets are the type of team the Bengals have beaten this year, and by looking at the Jets. I do think the Bengals would beat them, and same with the Chargers. This is your problem and what many people's problems are. You don't look at how teams match up, and how they would do. That is why most people thought the Bengals would suck, while I thought the Bengals would do well. The Bengals are a team that matches up very well against team, and would against the Jets and Chargers too. Those are two teams the Bengals IMO would beat. So once again if the Bengals make the playoffs, then they were a good team and I don't know why you would continue to argue it. If they don't make it, I will admit myself that you were right and they were just average.
December 28, 201114 yr I guarantee you that there aren't a ton of fans that decided this week they are coming from Baltimore. The great majority of fans travelling in for the game made that decision prior to Mike Brown offering BOGO. I guarntee that you would have been wrong. This game means everything to them, just like it does to us. Yes they know their in the playoffs, however their goal is the Super Bowl. Their best chance at doing that is by winning this game. They would have known that there would have been thousands of tickets available prior to this sale. Just like the Pittsburgh game and fans who decided to buy tickets that week. This game is like a playoff game, and just like a playoff game, people would have bought tickets the week of, and came. We will never know now though, because this sale will keep a lot of Ravens fans out. Unless Bengal fans sell them, which could happen.
December 28, 201114 yr Also if the Bengals make the playoffs, does that not put more money in Brown's pocket. Do they not get some kind of playoff revenue sharing. I also don't think they pay the players as much as it is a fixed amount for the playoffs. I am pretty sure I read an article that said most of the stars had to take drastic pay cuts to play in the playoffs/superbowl.
December 28, 201114 yr Thank you I been waiting for you to chime in, and you said exactly what I figured you would say. However I want to hear your argument why you consider the Jets and Chargers better? Were the Jets suppose to be better than the Bengals? Yes! Were 31 other teams suppose to be better than the Bengals before the season? Yes! However is that how it ended up. As SSC liked to point out, the Jets and Chargers have played a lot of teams with not good QB's either. The Bills twice a year, and Dolphins with a backup QB twice a year. Teams with I believe 5 wins each? They also played the AFC West who has no real strong team and could have only one team with a above .500 record, and the NFC East as we have seen doesn't either and will have only one team with an above .500 record. Yet they already have 7 losses, and could possibly have 8 before the year is over. The Chargers mean while alraedy have 8 losses, and could have 9 by the time the year is over. They even lost to a man who was sitting on his couch for the first 6 weeks, and beat them in just his second start with the team. Not to mention even as bad as the Bengals were last year, they still were able to beat the Chargers. The Bengals have gotten better, I don't think the same can be said about the Chargers. Their is a difference between perception and reality, and yes those two teams were suppose to be better this year. However this simply have not been that good of teams that year, and you will have a very hard time making an argument for why they have been better, especially based on how they have played this year. So if you take them two out, there are only 5 teams in the AFC who were better. Meaning the Bengals were 6th, and that also means playoffs. If your a playoff team, you are a good team plain and simple. Because anybody who makes the playoffs has a shot and starts anew. Very simple. The Bengals wouldn't be able to move the ball against Jets. Look at how they've done against good defenses (Pitt = 2 losses, Bal = loss, Houston = loss, SF = loss). San Diego has Rivers. He'd carve the Bengals secondary up. (And yes, he'd probably throw some picks while at it, but he's a good QB, and teams with above average QBs have beaten the Bengals). So 7-9 Seattle last year was a good team? Really?
December 28, 201114 yr Talking about single game performance for a QB is funny. Brees threw a bunch of picks last year so he's not good anymore? Same thing with Rivers this year. Look at that list again and tell me again that the Jets haven't faced a far tougher schedule and far, far better QB's. I'm not even taking anything away from the Gals and I don't think the Jets are all that good. I'm just pointing out the luck the Bengals got by facing terrible teams with terrible QB's and in quite a few cases backups or 3rd stringers. It's high comedy that you won't admit that schedule luck has as much to do with their record than anything else. I'd say it's 80/20 schedule luck/good players this year for the Gals.
